Catastophic Structural Failure
Posted by ridleusmc on Saturday, November 27, 2004 10:48 AM
Hey Everybody,

I thought that my experience last night was worth its own post here. This is a pic of the remains of my Testors/Aztec 320 airbrush. This was my first airbrush, and it served me for about a year.

I picked it up after a 2 day break. I filled it with Future to overcoat some decals, and I felt some liquid flowing down the air feed line. I just figured it was dripping off the side of the cup. I went to test the delivery on some wood, and the stream wouldn't change when I turned the adjustment knob. I opened up the cup to see it was empty. I then filled it with some glass cleaner to troubleshoot. The glass cleaner disappeared and flowed down the outside of air feed hose at the bottom of the airbrush. I set it down to get some more glass cleaner. When I gingerly picked it up I heard "CLICK." The thing literally broke into 3 pieces in my hands.

That looks pretty bad ... nothing a bit of duct tape can't fix though Thumbs Up [tup]

Having never owned an Aztek I can't say first hand, however I've heard that Testors repair service is pretty good so it would be worth giving them a call.

It looks like I'll be able to get a good deal on a Badger 155 Anthem. I've read some people praising it. Good idea? I haven't seen an Iwata for sale around here. So far I've tried the LHS and the local art supply store. The rough part will be waiting for a week for the 40% off coupon for the art supply store to become valid. I got the coupon from a friend in the Jacksonville Model Club. I thanked him about 50 times. The AB costs $119.99, so the coupon will save me about 50 bucks.

YES YES YES!!!!! Badger 155 is a great airbrush!!!!!!!!!!!! Going from an Aztek (like me) it's like going from, ummmm let's see now, err...... hell to heaven, no not quite, well something liek that. The badger handles great, is solid metal, pencil lines to 3", and has a good heavy feel in you rhand. It's cheaper than the Aztek doiuble actions and it's good!!!!!!badger badger mushroom badger bandage brick potato badger badger badger badger badger chescake badger badger badger badger badger badger duck.

alright, thanks fellas. I'll wait a week for the coupon to become valid and then spend about 70 dollars for a badger 155 anthem. I'm sorry I really didn't consider an Iwata. They just aren't for sale around here, and it looks like I'm going to get a good deal on the anthem.

Go Badger It will never let ya down either and you'll have enough left over for a model and enough paint to cover it.

You forgot bailing wire. Oh, wait, you're in Singapore. I forgot that bailing wire is a southern USA fix for everything that duct tape isn't strong enough to fix.Big Smile [:D]

my friend, you pick the airbrush that YOU want to replace your aztec with friend. no need to apologize about anything. we here at the fsm forum are divided into 2 halves, iwata and badger fans. we just like to tease each other all in fun. Thumbs Up [tup]

Scott, cardboard makes great replacement windows in houses and vehicles too, here where i'm from!! especially if you're lucky enough to find some with a wax coat on it!!Wink [;)]Smile [:)]

bailing wire is jury rigging 1102, Scott, i havent graduated from that class yet. also, how about JB weld, voted by "Jury-rig" magazine as being even better than bailing wire !

My Dad is a plumber so the magic fix for everything is silicon around here. If anything breaks just wait a few minutes and you'll here "No worries , just whack a bit of silicon on it, it'll be right". Works well on airbrushes too, with the added bonus that it will bounce back into your hand when you drop the airbrush.

Here's a tip I'll give you for free: If a window on your car ever gets broken, a good replacement is a big sheet of clear plastic and duct tape. A bit of silicon around the edges will seal it up nicely. Worked for me one time.

Unfortunately some things are beyond jerry-rigging, such as cheap plastic airbrushes. Luckily for us some things aren't, like 30 million dollar military helicopters.

Good old Duc-tape.
