Suggestion for an additional forum

Hi Mark,

That's a good idea. It's easy enough for Forum administrators to create new topics; the hard part would be digging through old posts and culling the prime material.

I'll share your thought with the other guys.

Thanks for the reply Kelly.

 Maybe you could leave the digging through old posts to the forum members...or possibly even start from scratch and have people re-submit tutorials on their own.  Then, those tutorials could be decided on either by the FSM staff or by a voting system through the forums.  That way, the best tutorials and guides would be in the list, "the cream of the crop", if you will.

 There are so many talented people that post on this site and the information they provide is very helpful to amatuers such as myself.  And maybe if it works out well, you guys could even implement a section in your magazine for best user submitted guides or something like that.  

 Thanks again for all the hard work and thanks for listening to my crazy ideas!!

I'm always digging for how-to's.  Having them all in one place would be great

A new subforum of "FAQ's and Tutorials" would be a great way to help (and attract!) new modelers. Topics like "What is a wash?"; "What is the Oil Dot Method?, etc--and then you could have members contribute specific threads or even new tutorials or even just mini-tutorials to post up in that forum.

It would be great to have cntributions from several different modelers and genres. Like how is a pin wash applied in Armor, as oppposed to on an aircraft? Or a car? Or how does one use pigments or filters on different kinds of models?

I think you'd have to have a moderator look at the posts and judge the effectiveness of each post, and the relevance to the topic at hand. It wouldn't work so great if we had a plethora of marginally-related posts clamoring for space?

I think it would be a great boon to the site! What do you think?

Count me in as well.  That would be much easier than using the search feature to find a tutorial that you saw a few months ago.

This is just a suggestion.

I play World of Warcraft(Yes, I am a nerd on many levels.) Anyway on a forum that I visit for Shadow Priests, they have a thread called "Newcomers Land" and it basically asks people to search there first since most of their questions have already been answered. That and folks are always going there to help answer questions. It cuts down on threads being buried under the same questions being asked over and over again. It really helps eliminate redundent posts. I think something like that would work here.

Stickies & a FAQ/Tutorial forum would be very useful, as has been already mentioned very usefull information often falls of the bottom of the page, never to be easily found again.

Several other forum I use (mainly computing) allow users to rate or star posts & after a certain number of positive votes the post will become automatically stickied - no mod input, its all automated.

in the corporate world it's mostly for some useless suit  to try to rational his/her otherwise useless over paid postion

Rest easy, guys. Most of the changes will be made to FSM's site proper, not the Forum. If I had to guess, most of the Forum's changes will be aesthetic (the pages will look nicer but work the same).   

I don't know exactly when these changes are coming. Sooner than later (is that vague enough?).

Please create the forum for techniques like oil dot weathering and oinwashes, its so much easier having it in one place.

The new forum would be a great addition to a already SUPERBE site I'm definitaly for it

I don't think that the forum needs any changes besides the new forum and I find it realy easy to use.

I would be horribly bummed out if you changed the functionality of the site. It is by far the easiest and coolest out there!

Sorry to bump such an old post, but I was curious if there was any more movement on this matter?  I've been out for a year due to other circumstances, but I see that there is now an "announcments" section that shows articles published by Kalmbach.  Just curious to see if there was any more ideas regarding setting up a forum that could be used for user submitted tutorials?
