Hi Matt,Smile [:)]

Thanks a lot for the info. I used to compete in indoor microfilm models. I remember Peck now that I see it. You know, the first thing that goes at my age is.....is.....is, oh well. I think I built 1 or 2 of their kits. Didn't they have kits called Peanut scale? If they did, then I did.

I have my grandsons here for the day and overnight so I'll check out that site when they go to bed.

Thanks again.

Jim,

I think I can help!

I used to compete with rubber-powered scale models, and I bought my motors from Peck Polymers:

www.peck-polymers.com

Their kits are nice, too.

Hi Matt,Smile [:)]

Just read you built Stick and Tissue. I still do and I am looking for a supply of rubber. The best the LHS could do was a 10-pack of 7" and 8" rubber bands. Used to get a round container of Sig Contest rubber 1/8" X 25'(for 45 cents) but have had no luck with them or in my internet travels. The 7 and 8" are great for my grandsons ROG's but not for mine. Any help????????

I'm for the scratchbuilding forum too.

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] on that. i actually am searching for scratchbuilding techs as i write. just so happened i came along this thread. scratchbuilding can be used as a general guide, as "painting" is. for armor, aircraft and autos alike. ammo cans, fuel drums, everything and anything can be used in our models and dios. i say GO with the scratchbuild forum.

Thumbs Up [tup]  Excellent idea - and an area that can't conceivably be tucked inside one of the existing forums.

Just kidding. Can't wait for this new forum to get off the ground. Should learn some valuable stuff.

The new forum sounds like a good idea.

I've been meaning to shoot you guys an update: I don't see any reason why the scratchbuilding forum shouldn't go forward. I just need to talk to the good folks in our online department about what needs to happen from a technical standpoint.

I'll keep you posted, and in the meantime, start scratchbuilding something to share when we get going!

A Scratchbuilding Forum is the best idea I've ever hear down here.  I vote for that too.

Where are you at with that suggestion Matthew?

I'm fairly new here, but I'd like to add my support for a scratchbuilding forum.

The only thing I'd like to check out is, how easy is it to post pictures?

Hmmm,...... I just tried, you can only post images which are being hosted on another URL. You can't upload one from home. It would be heaps easier, and would make a scratch building forum alot more useful, if you could just take a quick photo of what you're talking about and upload it straight to FM, rather than having to host it somewhere else.

Just a thought.

Matthew,

thank you for your consideration, thats all myself and the others wanted. If the answer is "No." we can live with that. All I ask is that you examine members reasons for wanting such a forum in the first place. I can assure you our reasoning was for the greater good of all forum members.

Thank you.

As the thread asking for a critique forum has been locked and you are actually responding to this topic I thought I'd leave my two cents here. I am not impressed.

My apologies to everyone else for butting in. I had to say something.

For the record, I support your idea for this new forum and hope works out.Thumbs Up [tup]

Darren,

To answer your question, yes, as representatives of the company, I suppose the staff needs to think a suggestion is a good one to get it implemented.

As I explained in another forum earlier today, none of the staff members is a full-time moderator, and to be honest, I don't have time to catch every post. I didn't see the critique forum until you mentioned it here. And to be honest, I don't know that I disagree with Amanda's take on the situation, but I'll happily consider the situation.

Whenever anyone has any suggestions for the magazine or the website/forum, the best way to reach me is via e-mail at editor@finescale.com .

I think it's a very good idea, too.

I'll talk to the folks in our online department and I'll see what needs to happen to get that done.

When I was working as a newspaper journalist I used to build a lot of flying scale models (the stick-and-tissue ones) because I had access to plans from the library, and more importantly, the raw materials were very inexpensive. That's when I learned to really read (and scale) plans and three-view drawings, and how to turn a pile of sticks and balsa sheet into a scale replica. (The fact that they actually flew, too, really added to the satisfaction!)

And yeah, I ended up goofing up a pile of raw materials, but there's always the chance to try again.

Definitely the kind of effort we should support here on the FSM forum!

I think this is a good idea if it also includes scratchbuilding details for kits. My first inclination when I see something a kit needs, or needs correcting, my first impluse is to make it myself. I think that's one of the aspects of the hobby that I like the most.
