Back to the hobby after a long break
Posted by JonD on Thursday, August 28, 2014 1:51 PM

Hello,

I've decided to restart scale modelling after long break pursuing other interests. I'm looking at building a

F-117 nighthawk 1:32 scale, the two kits I've been looking at the Tamiya & Trumpeter. I've no experience of Trumpeter, so and advice welcome on either kit.

Thank

Welcome to the Forums! Glad to have you aboard!

Seems that we get a lot of members that are restarting after a "life happens break".

If you post this on the aircraft section, you will get more of a response.

I keep hitting "escape", but I'm still here.

Welcome aboard, as Fox says, your not alone, and posting this in the aircraft section is your best bet. Both company's are first rate for the most part. Tamiya probably have less bad kits than trump, but I am sure you will get some first hand views. But for now, here is an in box review of the Trump kit, I could not find any mention of the Tamiya kit.

JonD, I have no experience with the kits, but if you are just getting back into it, the Tamiya might offer an easier learning curve. Trumpeter tends to involve more detail. So maybe part of the answer lies in the level of experience you have, even if rusty. Personally, I'd go for the easier challenge to get started on. A first success is more likely to lead to a long term enjoyment of scale modeling. But someone here might say the trumpeter is the easiest build. If they say they know the kits, take the one they say is easiest.

And, welcome back. I was away from it for about 45 years. You came to a great bunch of folks at FSM. Best wishes.

Thanks all for the welcome and advice, if I get chance later I'm going to pop across town to a model shop and see what subject they may have that interests me

Welcome to the forums Jon!  Both of those brands are pretty good.  I've done just one Tamiya so far myself (the Flak 88) and was very impressed with it.  Went together very well.  I have one or Trumpy kits, but have never put one together so far.  I think you'll do fine either.  Be sure to post pics of your builds!

Welcome aboard Jon,

There's plenty of folks that know more about the Trumpeter kits than I, I have built quite a bite of Tamiya stuff though and can't go wrong.

There was a time I was just fed up with the MonoRevell kits and built exclusively Tamiya and Hasagawa. You can't get any better if you don't have a challenge and the HasaMiya kits don't require as much "attention".

anyway, enough rambling. Welcome.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.
