Howdy from TX - 20 year break

Howdy.

As early as I can remember I remember playing with my father's scale models as a kid.  By the time I was 13 I had built maybe about a dozen aircraft.  At 13, I discovered girls and gave it up.

So now I'm 33 with a kid of my own and I'm attempting to do it again "the right way". Right now I've got the Revell 1/144 TypeVIIC/41 U-Boat kit with some supplies in the mail. Including an airbrush set, which I'm very excited about. I'm spending WAY too much time color matching when basically all I need is a light, medium and dark gray. I've never done a ship before so we'll see! I just plan on doing it vanilla this first time, and will maybe attempt some preshading at the most.

Also picked up a cheap little snap-tite A-10 Thunderbolt kit for the 3 year old to get into. He's a little young to offer any real help, but he's been having fun holding and playing with all the little pieces with Dad. The glue and paint stay away from him though!

Anyway, this site has been a wealth of information. Thanks!

Welcome je2000,

Glad to have you on the forum. Also glad your getting you son into the hobby. So many kids these days just don't find any interest in it. I've been trying to get my 6 yo grandson interested in it, but at this time it's just not happening. He's just interested enough to look at them and move on.

Again, welcome aboard.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Welcome to the Forums je2000!  Glad to have you aboard!

I've been trying to get my two grandsons interested for years. They love to watch and they ask a lot of questions but after a little while they want to get back to their electronics. My stepson buys them every latest item. They are 10 and 13 and have the latest and best phones and whatever else is on the market. I'll keep on trying though.

P.S. I've been building for 68 of my 74 years.

I keep hitting "escape", but I'm still here.

Feel free to ask questions.

There are a lot of friendly and helpful folks here.

Sorry we can't host a Texas style BBQ for ya.

Thanks! I'm in Austin and have just run into my first mistake/problem.  I am sure I can find the answer easily though.

The little one gets a small dose of technology, but is just as happy riding his balance bike or playing with his small die-cast airplanes. I am pretty sure a 3 year old boy with a hobby knife glued to his hand would be considered a weapon of mass destruction.

The U-boat is coming along slowly. Once it's presentable I'll get some photos up.
