Thank you Bish,

My dad spoke highly of you and often. He shared the photos with me of your home town (Village) and it is beautiful. As far as not responding to his last message you need not worry. He really enjoy his time on here and cherished every conversation he had with you, and everyone else. My dad said you were a great representitive of the UK...a true gentlemen.

I am excited that I made the choice to take up modelling and I look forward to learning as much as I can from you, and every other modeler here. I hope that you and I can take off where you and my father left off.

Great to have you Hunter. Hope your family is doing ok. Your dad had a profound impact on me. I felt like I was punched in the gut when I heard he passed so soon. I thought I'd have a month or two to get to know him better. back to models, One tip that I can give is don't worry if your models don't turn out to be "best of show" quality right away. Mine sure didn't, and still don't. That can be a problem for a perfectionist like me. Also, work at your own pace. dont feel like you HAVE to get something finished, this is a hobby, not a job.

Hunter,

You will need to use a photo hosting site like Photobucket, Flicker or Imageshack. FSM does not have the server space to contain all the pictures posted, or any other forum for that matter.
Most of these photo hosting sites can be joined for free. Once you upload a picture to them just drop the URL of the particular photo you want to post into the "source" line. That should do it.

Hello everyone,

Thank you very much for all of your wonderful comments and for welcoming me aboard. I have ordered the basic items to get me started and look forward to getting underway with my first model. I can tell you this, I was 10 y/o when I built a model and it looked like a 2nd grader did it (laughing). My mom gave me 3 model's my dad had ordered right before he started to slip away. A 1:48th scale Japanese Zero, 1:35th scale Howitzer Artillery and a 1:350th scale USS Enterprise. Mom stated these models were for some group project here in the forums? The aircraft carrier is going to have to wait for awhile....I don't think I am ready for that one yet.

My interest right now will be aircraft and ships. I will in time look at building armour and artillery set in a diorama. I have never built a diorama, but I am going to in the future.

Again, thank you for your comments and for welcoming me (Now I see why my dad spoke so highly of you and the forums).

I will ask this, when I look at the "Your Photos" button below your settings. I don't see where you can upload photos. Am I missing something?

Best regards to all,

Hunter

Welcome aboard Hunter! Glad to have you on board. I didn't talk a whole lot to your dad but saw the farewell letter and was touched. I have been back to modeling now for 4 years and I couldn't ask for a more fulfilling "rainy day" hobby. I love the hobby and what its done for me. Don't be afraid to post pictures of any progress you have and don't be afraid to ask questions. That's what we are all here for is to enjoy the hobby and get better at it in the process. Lookin' forward to seein' what you're gonna bring to the table bud.

P.S. Any particular subject you are interested in? Aircraft, cars, ships.....

Hi, Hunter -

Well, good for you, we welcome you to FSM as a member and it's wonderful to have you aboard. I have no doubt this would please your Dad very much, carrying on with his tools and kits keeps it all going for him.

Jeff's communications with us always brought some enjoyment each time, his interests were 1) family, 2) job and 3) modeling. Quite a good man, sorely missed here.

Any help we may provide is yours for the asking, no shortage of highly experienced modelers here, (me? not so much,) but I'm always willing to try. I wish you all the best in your future efforts and hope to see some of your models.

Best regards to you all, I hope your Mom is holding up well.

Welcome to the Forums Hunter! Glad you decided to join us!

I'm sure your dad is up at the "Great Workbench in the sky" smiling down on you.  You've probably learned a lot from just watching your dad build his and the members will be here to help out if you get stuck with a question/problem.  Enjoy.

Welcome Hunter!

I couldn't agree more with Steve.  It'll be a honor to have you here.  The news of your dad's passing saddened me greatly.  Losing anyone here is very much like losing a family member.  It affects us all.

Definitely ask away!  Don't worry if the question has been asked before.  Everyone learns something new no matter how long they've been at this hobby.  I've been doing this for about 38 years and just this past weekend I tried a new technique that I had NEVER tried before.  But I wouldn't have known about it nor how to do it were it not for the great folks here on the forum.

Also, keep in mind that there is no one "right" answer or "holy grail" way of doing something.  That's the best part of this hobby.  You can make it yours and do things the way you'd like to do it.  If you ask what's the best way to do XYZ, you'll get ten different answers.  The beauty is that you get to mix and match the ways that you like the best.  I think that's why I like this hobby.  It's the one thing in life that I get to do the way I want it.  LOL!

Again, welcome to the forum.

Hello, I am New to Modelling
Posted by Hunter on Sunday, January 24, 2016 6:56 PM

Hello everyone,

My name is Hunter, a few of you know me from a recent event in my life. I deceided to take up modelling to follow in my father's(ModelMan68) foot steps or at least try it. It has been almost 16 years since I built a model . Dad never tried to push modelling on me because he wanted me to be my own person and to pursue my own hobbies and events. During the passing of my dad four of you(GMorrison, Steve(ModelCrazy), Joe(Highlander242) and Patrick206 help put the idea in my head to get into modelling.

So, with all the great comments made by my dad about all of you and this forum I thought there is no better place than here to get started. After I get what is needed to start I will be on here to seek all the advise I can get (laughing). I have spent a little time looking through the different forums so I know were to look for certain advise.

I look forward to any and all comments once I start submitting model photos. Please be honest with your comments. Any and all feedback is appreciated.

Thank you, and I look forward to getting to know all of you.
