Revell Bismarck 1/350 battleship and on's and details
Posted by Kevin Ma on Friday, January 29, 2016 9:31 PM

hi everyone. Relativly new to this place.

I am considering on buying the revell bsimarck, and it will be one of the hardest models I'll be tackling. (I've built a few gundam models, a few ship models, notably U.S.S Arizona, and a few plane modles)

I would like to buy everything together of course (meaning the PE and all that other stuff) and I am making this discussion to have opinions wheather to buy PE sets (such as rails), brass gun barrels, etc

I also found the Pontos 1/350 Bismarck 1941 detail upgrade set for revell. It has more stuff than I need e.g. resin parts. It costs about the same.

The main fear I have about purchasing the Pontos 1/350 Bismarck 1941 detail upgrade set for revell is that I will not be able to paint it. I have found sources of ppl buying everything seperatly, and in all the sources I've searched up, all of them left the ship as a gray golden ship. I want my ship to look as if she were on her final sortie.

Anyone who has used Pontos kit, please help

thanks

Hi Kevin, welcome to the forums. Welcome Sign
I am somewhat familiar with most of the PE companies and just received my first Pontos set (for the Prinz Eugen). I don't know very much about the Revell Bismarck or its AM.
You would get much more detailed answers if you asked this question in the Ship forum. There are several very knowledgeable members who watch that forum, but do not venture into the introduction forum.

Welcome aboard. Ye, you will get more answer in the ship forum. But while your here. I just got the same Bismarck kit myself and i got a PE set from Lion Roar. It includes metal gun barrels and tons of PE. It is pricey, over 200 bucks at some US sites. But i got one on e-bay from china at a fraction of that. All i need to ad is metal screws. I am still giving a wooden deck some consideration.

Thanks Bish.
I have found online that the Lions Roar set is around 100-120 bucks or so........about 100 bucks cheaper than the Pontos....
Can you give me tip on what is inside of the Lions Roar set?
thanks

I have a question.

I have seen many people say that lions roar is an awesome set too, at  1/2 the price pf pontos.......

May I ask which, on ur opinion, is better?

thx

Kevin, i can't do a comparison as i have never sen a Pontos set, but i will gte a pic of the Lion roar set for you. I thibnk it has actually save me money as i was originally intending to get the eduard set and all of the master metal barrels. But the Lion roar set covers them all.

Ok, here you go. Now this is the first 350 PE set i have seen in the flesh, and i am impressed. Its the first time i have got this all out and i am surprised at how much is there and also how thin it is. I am used to 72nd PE and bigger. This stuff feels more like plastic.

I have added a 1/35th Tiger so you can get an idea of scale. At the top is the bags with the barrels for the 3 largest guns and the ships bell. Top left is some bags of resin bts and in the middle some plastic rod and wire.

Hope that helps.

I was thinking i could spare 6 months at some point, but after seeing this lot. I have read a number of builds and they all rate this set highly. I have a Griffon set for the 72nd S-100, and i thought that was a lot.

Sorry kevin, not sure what you mean. If you mean which kit is that PE for, its designed for the Revell Bismarck kit. Apparently it will work for the tamiya kit, but may need some extra work.

The only AM propellers i know of are by G-Factor, bt i thnik the company have gone out of buissness now. You might be able to find there stuff. The only other thing i can think of is a wooden deck, but i am still undecided on one of those. I am pretty unfamilar with building ships myself, have not done one in about 20 years, so just feeling my way in.

Which specs would you like, do you mean the dimensions.

Right, got ur. No, you don't need extras. There are enough barrels for the 3 largest guns, so 8 of the 38cm, 12 15cm and 16 10.5 cm. All of the smaller AA guns are done in PE.
