Jim,  First day back after a month, not so bad.  Only about 600 emails, and they backed up a small dump truck on the new work, but at least its not boring.  Good to be back, but rather tired this eveniong.  One day at a time.  Thanks for the thoughts.

All, just wanted to let you know tomorrow I start back to work.  From anticipating about 2 weeks off, and getting almost a month.  Turns out they were expecting a hole about the size of a hockey puck and instead I got a 8'X10" patch to hold it all together.  Oh, well, go big or go home, right?  For the guys in BO'H, I should have a figure complete and significant progress on both the A-36 and Zero to show off on Friday, if I make it.  Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes for my recovery.  Hopefully, this is enough health issues for a while.

Sorry about the late reply to your post.

I've experienced recovery from a hernia operation and can say that, for me, the worst aspect was getting up to use the washroom.

OTOH, the pain did subside over time and having the hernia was worse.

Eventually you will feel up to resuming normal activities.

Just be paitient.

Hope to see you up and around at an IPMS meeting whenever I can find time.

My advice is to not lift anything heavier than an Xacto knife.

 

And no model bigger than 1:72nd! Those 1:32nd jobs can be pretty heavy! 

All, you know what they say about best laid plans, right?  I went into the hospital for out patient hernia repair surgery on Tuesday.  Turns out, I had a bigger rupture than they had thought, and required a 10" mesh strip to close the hole.  I also had an infection of unknown origin, so I got to stay in the hospital until today, Sunday.  Finally home!  Came home with a drain and a series of staples from about my belly button almost around my side at my waist line.  Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers.  I'll keep you up to date on how things are going.

My son had a hernia operation not too long ago and he fully recovered in less than a month. He was up and running in about 2 weeks. The first few days were a little rough but as each day passes it gets better. Best of luck with your procedure.

 John, we've kept the thoughts and prayers going and will continue to do so.  I went through 4 years of dialysis and then 2 kidney transplants with a long recovery 17 years ago.  I still knock on wood (my head) everytime I think about it.  Got lots of R&R and workbench time.  Luckily the company I worked for paid me full pay for all the time I was off for dialysis and the recovery after the transplants.  That really took the stress off.

Well, tomorrow I go in to get the hernia patched up.  Should be home tomorrow night if things go smoothly.  Only 2 weeks off of work this time, so not so bad.  Looking at it as 2 weeks of doctor ordered sitting on my backside.  Hopefully, get some bench time in, hope to finish up the A-36 and the A6M2 I started for the Butch O'Hare group build we were having.  Later.

Well, everyone, the fun continues.  I have had my reattach the plumbing surgery back in April and everything has been going pretty well.  Then I noticed that there was a lump where I didn't think there should be.  Saw the surgeon and yep, I have a hernia at one end of one of my scars.  He told me to schedule a procedure for when its convenient, unless it goes bad and something gets stuck in it.  Will the fun never end?

Had my first doctor's appointment yesterday and they took the staples out.  Says things are going great, I can transition to a regular diet, and go back to work as soon as I feel up to it.  Looking at a second surgery in April to put the plumbing back together and after that, I'm as good as new.  Thanks for the prayers and well wishes.

1/72 too freakin small!!!  As the doctor told me, go big or go home!  No smaller than 1/48.

Well, had my first session at the workbench, and had some work completed on my A-36.   I'm adding an armor plate behind the seat, which I have photo evidence for and am almost done cutting it to shape. Just looking for a template to cut the scoops out.  I also worked on putting the arming wires on the bombs and sanding the seams on the wings.  Hopefully, I am done with sanding and can start the actual paint.  Now I am tired.

Definitely prating for you, John. My mom had the same thing many years ago, and based on what I observed of her, I know it ain't easy on you. Hope you get well soon.

Eric,  my weight limit is 10 pounds.  I don't typically need that much putty on a 1/48 scale fighter, so I should be ok with finishing my A-36  :)
