Hey, its time, been 12 years since I had a vacation and my 25th wedding anniversary is approaching, so we are heading off on a cruise.

Or to keep it model related, and since I am a ship builder, a "research" trip.  I plan to do a lot of studying of water and how to make an effective Carribean ship diorama.  Of coarse, I don't think one research trip will be enough and may need to plan a lot more research trips in the future.

My home for the next 7 days.

See ya when I get back!

Q: How many Hurricanes can a man drink at the pool bar?

A: I don’t remember.

Hello!

Have a nice vacation!

Can I ask you a favor? Could you make some pics of Sint Maarten for me if/when you are there? Thanks in advance and have a nice day

We hope to take an Alaska cruise soon, hopefully next year.  My wife wants to take one on one of the smaller ships because she has heard they go closer in to the glacier faces, but I would like to go on a big one- I have never gone on a ship bigger than a car ferry.

From which port are you leaving? If Vancouver, let me know, we can meet for a pint Beer

PS

Big ship = thousands of passengers on a floating hotel

Smaller ship = fewer passenger and mor ship like experience

Just my 2 cents Smile

You should do some research on seafood and drinks where you're aboard too!!!

Enjoy your trip!!!

ScottRC, congrats on your anniversary and for choosing a cruise for your vacation. You're gonna love it. They will treat you like royalty, 24 hrs a day. It's my favorite type of vacation. Personaly I prefer Bermuda to the Carribean, but both are beautiful destinations. Have fun and drink a rum and coke for me!

Ah, work, the model bench, my cat, nothing is the same as it was before a 7 day vacation.  I'm back, but under a bit of protest.  Now, my current project, the Prinz Eugen, is on the bench gathering dust as I comtemplate whether to make a water scene and finish it, or just say heck and book another "research" trip.

Here are a few photos of my "research".  It was hard to post them as I go through the post vacation blues.  Maybe I'll order some more models to cheer me up!

As the ship was debarking, I was taken by the beauty of the Elissa, a bark, that was moored next to us.  My wife could tell I would have really wanted to be sailing on a three masted bark instead of a 91000 ton floating resort. But I came around and started to enjoy the resort life.

My first sunrise at sea, followed by a 3 mile jog on deck.  Nothing feels better than running into a 40 knot wind on a ship doing 20 knots.

Coming into the port of Progresso was exciting, at least to a sea nerd like me.  I was the only one on the front observation deck taking in the action.

Some warship eye candy, compliments of the Mexican Navy.

They had just parallel parked our 90K ton steel barge like it was a minivan and within minutes, our sister ship comes in and settles into the berth with silk like precision.

Man, to model water like that....And within an hour, I was snorkling in it.

Heading back home, with the currents on our side and the winds to our back.

Back into the home port safe, kinda sane, and sound (but not of mind!)
