Toshi, great idea for a thread!

My avatar is me on my track bike at Palm Beach International Raceway in Jupiter Farms, FL. I was an aspiring motorcycle club racer, until I crashed just before I was to get my CCS race license. That was almost 6 years ago.

My forum name is because I'm a life long Arkansas Razorback's fan! Woo Pig!! Sooie!! If you cut me, I'd, well, bleed red! Big Smile

My last name is Bishop and so my knickname is Bish. Just about everyone calls me that, my other half even finds it odd when my mum users my first name. In the army everyone has a knickname and quite often we might know some one for years and not know their first name, so it become second nature.

My Avatar is not personal, British flag with a lion in front.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Thanks, Toshi. Great idea. My screen name: fotofrank, is because I take pictures. I shoot with a Pentax K-3 DSLR and a Pentax ME Super 35mm film camera. My avatar right now is a stack of P-51s. I took the picture at the Gathering of Mustangs and Legends back in 2007 at Rickenbacker Field outside Columbus, Ohio. I was aboard the B-25 "Pacific Princess" standing at the right waist window. I stuck my telephoto lens through a small hole next to the .50 cal just as the four P-51s lined up next to the B-25 to have their pictures made. I snapped a few shots and then they went away. Probably the best air-to-air photo I've ever shot in forty-plus years of shooting pictures of airplanes. My avatar changes from time-to-time just to keep it fresh.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

Great thread idea, Toshi!

Mine is pretty boring, a pic of me and my first name.

But I often wonder about many of the screen names and so early in the replies already have many questions answered. :)

as far as the photo,I just rotate pictures from time to time.Im a big Raider football fan,and that was the one and only time I attended a game in Oakland.

Hi,

My user name is just my initials.  When I signed up for my 1st email account (too long ago to remember) I tried just using my 1st, middle and last initial, but that was already taken, so I stuck in an initial for my confirmation name as well (its a Catholic thing).  Since then I've been pretty much using those same initials for most things on the internet.

I used to not have an avatar, but this thread got me thinking about them so I just uploaded a picture of my 1951 Buick Special (which I also use on the Team Buick forums) Smile

My avatar is a MS-06F Zaku II from "Mobile Suit Gundam", as my fisrt Gundam kit was a Zaku.  Actually it was my second kit, but the Zaku cemented my fascination with Gundam.  It is also my all time favorite MS design.  The Real G name came from my personal prejudice against "fake" Gundam shows that do not fall in line with the original Universal Century time line (let's not go into what constitutes "fake" versus "real" as I don't want to go all Joseph Goebbels on you).  It's not a particularly good name, just something I came up with in a hurry.  Maybe I should have picked "Mr. Zaku" or something.  Back in the 1980s, some Japanese college students nicknamed me "Mr. Gundam", but I like the enemy designs better!  Cool

A fun topic Toshi!

Toshi

Ahh!  I forgot!  Toshi is a short version of Toshio.  Toshio is my middle name.  My full name is Allan Toshio Miura Jr.  In Japan they use only the last name first and the sir name.  Their is no middle name.  But since my middle name is Japanese most Japanese Americans use their middle names.  But in Japan a last name or known as a family name comes first then your name comes after the family name.  Did you get that?

Example:

John Fredrick Samuel

In Japan:

Samuel John

Hey Toshi. Can you draw me a chart with circles and arrows and stuff? Maybe I will understand better. Hehe. Kidding of course.

This is one of the best ideas for a thread that I have seen in a long time. Except for my, Do you feel "cheated" thread. Nothing better than that one. Cough!

No Avatar for me cuz I ain't got nothing to show.

My last name is Bak. My HR person coined the name Bakster for me. In lieu of something better, I went with it for the forum. Truth is... I set it up on the fly thinking it won't matter. I needed it to post a question and then I'd be gone. Little did I know I'd become a permanent fixture here.

PS: you can blame the permanent fixture part on Joe Rix and Greg. It's their fault.

My handle came from when I first got on Compuserv and joined an RC bulletin board back in 1994. I just got into radio controlled models at the time, so I typed in Scottrc and it stuck.

My screen name is the same as I have tried to use for all my various internet stuff. It goes back to when I was on jump status. A stick pusher is the last jumper in a stick of paratroopers, pushing the rest out ahead, my usual assigned position. I changed the spelling to keep it unique.

My avatar is a cropped close up from a  team photo when we were rigging for a training jump a few weeks before 9/11.

OK .... two totally seperate thing's going on here.

1: My Avatar. It's the Revell 1/144 Type VII- D U-Boat. I chose it because I love German Sub's,   It was  the first model to turn out "Perfect" the first time ... in a long time. ( it usually take's me a few try's to get one done right. )

Since it came out of my "Factory" perfect, I thought it would "Impress" the local's here and make everyone think that I "knew what I was doing". ( I dont . )

2:  My username. Back in Highschool I was a bit of a "Ner- do - well" and I had a reputation among the Parent's of my friend's . One Parent came up with the name  "Little Timmy"..... Because like on the old T.V. Show , Lassie,    LittleTimmy was alway's in trouble. ( What's that Lassie ??? Little Timmy fell down the well ??? ) The name followed me from 1981 to today. ( I dont get into much trouble these days ..... I'm too old to run from Police anymore...)

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

No avatar yet. Still can't decide what to use.

My name is what my older kids and their friends and their mother used to call me. I was the one dad who worked 2nd or 3rd shift so I was able to be at school and on field trips constantly.

I sometimes end a post with Bill B 2.0. That is my name (last name initial) with the 2.0 meaning that I'm version 2.0 since my dad was 1.0 (Senior vs. Junior). Doesn't mean that I'm an improvement just that I'm trying to follow in his foot steps.

Great idea Toshi. My avatar is from the MASH episode five o'clock charlie one of the funniest episodes in my opinion. The name Rambo is of course from the movie but also the name of my best friend a 6 year old beagle hound lol. I had the name picked out before we got him, in fact he should of been a she. The people we bought him off of told us that the mother had only females 8 of them when we got there she said she must of missed spoke it was all males, I can still hear my wife you really aren't going to name a girl Rambo are you? From there It's been a running joke to want to name everything Rambo, my dad does the same thing with the name Fred thank god my mom wouldn't let him name me that.

Great thread Toshi!

Well, back in the early'70s, I started racing RC sailboats. I was also big into CB radio. My "handle" on the radio was "Sea Fox" (the name on the transom of my boat). The name on my first wife's boat and her handle on the radio was "Sea Hag"(she gave that name to herself). The guys in the boat club started calling me just plain "Fox" all the time. A few of my HS buddies picked up on it and still call me "Fox" today. Some of my modelling friends do also. So, that's where it came from.

The avatar is an Artesania Latina (or "Artist in the Latrine " as the professor used to call them) kit of the "Spanish Maid". When we lived back in the old house, one day my wife started re-decorating the den and decided to do it in a "beachy" theme. She had a small fishing net that her father made hung on the wall with some shells looking like they were caught in it. She had blue walls with a border around the top with lighthouses on it, recovered chairs with lighthouses on them, and other seafaring items scattered around the room. She took a Dumas model of a rowboat I had made and put it on a shelf. Then she came up with the final item. She wanted me to make a sailing ship model for a large shelf near the door. I gave her all the ship catalogs that I had at the time and told her to pick one out. She picked out the Spanish Maid. I started it in 2004 and finished it in 2006. I think it's one of the better models that I have built, so I used it for my avatar.

Jim  Captain

P.S. I'm now working on a 4' R/C model of the "Emma C. Berry" for her that is going to be placed on the 1/2 wall in the living room of our new home. It will not, however, ever see water. Been working on and off for the last 6 months on it. To detail it up, some parts have to be ordered and others have to be made so it will probably take me a while to finish her. Maybe it will be my new avatar at some future date.

 Main WIP:

On the Bench: Artesania Latina  (aka) Artists in the Latrine 1/75 Bluenose II

I keep hitting "escape", but I'm still here.

My name reflects my interest the child-oriented "space" shows on TV from about 1950, which I remember vividly and continue to document.  My favorite was "Tom Corbett, Space Cadet", hence I chose the name "Cadet Chuck".

The avatar is a model of Dr. Zarkov's rocket ship from the 1930's "Flash Gordon" theater serials.  The figures are molded rubber guys from my "Tom Corbett Space Academy" playset, made by Marx, in 1950.

I collect memorabila on these subjects.  My favorite ones are nearly mint, metal Buck Rogers toy ray guns, from the 1930's.

The avatar I'm using here is a shot I took of a visiting F-4 taxiing past part of out reventment area at Korat.  My name Itook from a character in a episode of the original Outer Limits series because I used to share some of its traits.  The 01 part is because somewhere along the line, the forums misplaced my original name and the only way I could used it again was to make a change, so I added 01 to denote the second time or re-incarnation.  I considered just using a 1 or even alpha at the end but this was simplier.

If you ever go over to the A.R.C. forums I use a negative shot of a B-70 taking off.

Alright, I’ll play along if I may. Great thread Toshi.

My avatar is Captain Nemo from Disney’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I was absolutely blown away when I first saw it as a kid and when we went to Disneyland, I would always go to the “attraction.”  Which definitely dates me. It also directed my career choice of being a frogman.

By the way, Nemo means no one in Latin.

The handle is from college when I forgot to remove my glasses on the first day of boxing. The coach looked at me and said, “Listen Doc, this isn’t a Physic class so never show up in glasses again.”  The name Doc has stuck since then even in the Navy. The Idle is my last name, so you can imagine the ribbing I received althrough Catholic school...

Nice topic!  I too have always been curious about these.

My avitar is the late great Leslie Nielsen in Frank Drebin guise from the Police Squad/Naked Gun series.  Perhaps the funniest man to ever live (my opinion) and certainly my favorite actor.

My screen name comes from the movie Tombstone where Ike Clanton tells Wyatt Earp "Listen now Mr. Kansas lawdog, law don't go around here....savvy?".  Unfortunately I had to shorten it to just Lawdog.  Lawdog then sequed into my profession and 114 is my badge number.

My avatar is just the best fighter aircraft ever built.  My 21 year AF career was with the F-15 (both C and E models).  I know there are aircraft that can do things she can't...but when you went to war with her and spent all your time with her...well, she's special.  The name "Eagle90", Well...F-15 Eagle and 90 was the year I went into the AF.

My avatar is just a picture of me.  The name is from many, many years ago at work.  There was Mr. Mike, Mr. Cliff, Mr. Rick, Mr. Bob, and we all went around the stockroom saying, "Oh no!!!"  Just like Mr. Bill from SNL.  I held onto the nickname after everyone went their separate ways.  Today, I am more known as Mr. Mike than Mike.

Thats funny Mike.  I  worked at a place where a new boss would call us brother from time to time, usually while ribbing one of us out.  Over time, we all started calling each other as Brother Scott, Brother Mike, Brother Christina, etc etc.  Drove the boss nuts.

My Avatar is Londo Mollari from my favorite Science Fiction series Babylon 5. At times he is a comedic charactor but more often than not he's forever screwing things up  Which is appropiate for me as far as models are concerned.  Greatmaker is the name his people's deity. Again chosen for irony as well, as Pisspoormaker is too long

The name is from an auto body shop I had back in the early 80's.  Was a shop in Portland then called "Velvet Hammer" and I liked it.  Thought about it, and named mine Goldhammer to denote quality work.  Got away from it for a few years, but been doing it steady for the last 25 years.  42 years in the trade.

Also a gold prospector and belong to three different clubs and part owner in 3 mining claims.

The avatar is for my 4x4 club, Wolfpack 4x4's, based out of NE Oregon. My other passion, but not so much now that I'm older and been doing it for 50+ years.  I've been a snarly beast at times, so it fits.

Thanks for starting this Toshi san! I seem to remember a similar post but it was years and years ago, I forgot most people's explanations plus the forum has added a pile of new members since then!

As to me, sorry no great mystery or anything. I was looking for an online handle for some site or the other (I don't even remember now) and I'd watched a Gamera movie a few nights earlier and I love kaiju so I used it. Every once and while someone would comment of how goofy and fun the Gamera movies were so I just started using it on all the sites I posted on. So that explains my bizarre and abnormal obsession with giant turtles......

As to the avatar, again nothing special. I've been on '80s TV kick going back to rewatch my favorite series from my childhood. It's about time for me to replace it with something new, just looking for something to tickle my fancy.

As Bish mentioned in his post, almost everyone in the Army has a nickname, and while I was stationed in Germany mine was Silent Bob from the Kevin Smith movies because I tended to be more in the background and would say something profound every once in awhile.  Most of the people in my company, and even battalion, only knew me as Silent Bob.  What was really weird was when I was roommates with "Jay."  The 33 part comes from my MOS, 33W (electronic warfare/intercept systems maintainer).

My avatar is the symbol of the Rebel Alliance (although now I suppose it would be the Resistance in the new trilogy).  My dad is a huge sci-fi fan and I grew up on Star Wars.

That's the episode I had in mind.  For some reason I always stuck with me.  Some of my personallity was the same as his at the time and for a good deal longer.

As for Londo, he was perhaps the most tragic figure in the series.  Despite that his barbs with G'Kar later were entertaining.

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.

Bob, your post reminded me of one of my mates who was called Bash. Problem was, we were in the same Warrior, i was the driver and he was the gunner. It used to cunfuse the hell out of the commander. I would get over the headphones 'bish turn left' and so i would start turning and then a few seconds later he would start screaming 'no not you, Bash turn left' and vica versa. Nearly caused one or two accidents. Big Smile

Toshi;

I am aware of the system of naming in Japan . I think it is proper and correct . Trouble is most folks can't pronounce my family  name right anyway ! It's Sicilian !

So , I used to build boats . Then before that I Captained for a well known Oil Company for the term of eight years  .

I looked for a name and I remembered I have built a lot of Model tankers for clients . Hence Tanker-Builder . The Avatar was the only thing I could think of after my son badgered me about the cartoonish silhouette .

So in one of the few times of getting things right on this here computter I sent a picture of the first of five 5"- 38 guns from a 1/96 scale Fletcher You've seen me mention , the U.S.S. Kidd . I would have a tanker , But , I couldn't get the photo to come out right that small

Thanks for the thread, Toshi, lots of good personal stories being shared in here!

mrmike came from a boatload of encounters with other Michaels - it was one of the more popular names for the boomers. Growing up there were so many Michaels that we resorted to things like Big Mike, Little Mike, Mike A., Mike B., and so on and so on. At one point I lived in a house with three other Mikes and we all adopted variations to distinguish ourselves.

With me it stuck. I was mrmike with business associates for years. In a friendly way, "That's mrmike to you" always seemed to recognize a world full of Michaels. To MrMike from Nashua, NH, I'm pleased share a moniker.

My avatar is picture of my Dad, a WWII P-47 pilot in a restored Thunderbolt at a reunion of his fighter group. He's 95 years old this December, and still flies Light Sport aircraft.

Like others have said, this forum is a wonderful way to share our hobby and our lives.

I've always been nuts about plastic and wood models, any kind, and it was the only thing I could think of on the fly when I was creating an account. After a few avatars I was satisfied with this one. My favorite bird and my country.

Although I must admit Johnny, the British flag is as equally cool looking IMO.

I find it interesting to learn the origin of the screen names and avatars.

What a great thread! I too, and I see a lot of us, have always been keen on aircraft and modelling since we were kids. It was in my case. My forum name comes, like Bish has mentioned, from service days,in my case the RAF, there was kids programme on TV in the 1980's called Grange Hill with a character called Gripper, I was the only Londoner on my shift and thats how it stuck. The aeroplane prefix before gripper was beacuse someone, when I registered , already had it. My avatar is my photo of the beautiful P-51D Mustang at the RAF Museum at Hendon.

"... I find it interesting to learn the origin of the screen names and avatars.

This is one real informative Thread.  Great Idea.

My screen name evolved from three sources. 40+ years ago two young ladies of my acquaintance called me Nino as a kind of pet name.  Further along in life I got enthused to listen to Firesign Theater comedy group.  They had a character called Nino.
 Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thVDjdSR7SA                                                  (Go to14:08)

Then there was the old IBMer who always said if you put Nothing In you get Nothing Out.   Three times the charm and Nino it was.

My Avatar is Commodore John Barry. A Relative according to my Fathers research.   I figured for a Ships Forum, what can be better than someone many consider to be the father of the American Navy. I do not rate this Avatar but it does give me something to be proud of and something to strive for.

We may have one of his Epaulets in the family "History Vault" (Attic) . No way to prove it though.

   Jim

P.S.  I think a choice for Father of the American Navy is misguided.  The American Navy had no father...
Oops, I mean it was the members of the Continental Congress; we don't actually know "who the father was". (That sounds worse).
Nino is going to stop digging a hole now .

I'm sure there was no offence taken.

Come to think of it, America barely had a flag.  At least not an official one, for quite a bit.  IIRC at least one of the "flags" looked a bit like a British flag.  (I better look that up.)

Well I haven't uploaded an avatar yet so we won't go there.  But my login comes from my days in the USAF.  I wasn't exactly a girly girl in the military, but females in my career field (Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricants)(POL)were few and far between, and the name Peaches just stuck with me.  And I have used it ever sense.

That's actually where my quote comes from.  One night I was refueling a plane and I had to stop at the pumping station to do something, as I was doing my walk around on the truck, my co-worker asked me a question and I walked off the truck to check on some piping and I ripped off a hose.  Needless to say I didn't live that one down.

Back in the 70s I met my wife at Little Rock when she was a crew chief on 130s, the thinking then was women didn't belong on the flight line.  More then one argument was had down there.  I heard she had a nickname but still has not disclosed it.  I was a cop back then and when she started going with me she started to lose some friends because of it.

No matter what planet I go to I can always get a good plate of Sweedish Meatballs.  Don't ask, it's just there.

Great thread, Mr. Toshi. No avatar for me yet. I haven’t had the time to figure that out yet. I teach high school chemistry, so thus my screen name.

Well, my avatar is a logo from my alma mater, Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.  Aggieland.  The State's oldest public university, and in an aside, in no way is A&M anyone's "little brother" as that other school in Austin would have you believe.  How can a school that opened its doors and first started educating students in the year 1876 be the "little brother" to a school that did not follow suit until 1883?  I guess math is too hard in Austin.

So the avatar is A&M's most highly visible logo (by way of the football program) superimposed over an outline of what I consider the best State in the USA, Texas.  On a background of the school color of maroon.

As for my name, well, I am a Texas Aggie, and I am a man, so ... Aggieman.

Well now, being the first university in 1876 since then, that makes it the oldest University south of the boarder.  Who’s to argue that!

Avatar is me in a T-6. Got a ride for building a model of it for the owner. That was back in 2000. He still has it and flies with the "Screamin Rebels" at airshows.

"Fermis" was a nickname given to me by a past girlfriend. It is a unit of measurement, roughly 1 quadrillionth of a meter. So, it's a "joke"...much like calling a huge man "Tiny". The name has stuck to me, for over 20 years now.

No big surprises here.  ManCityfan because I am huge fan of Manchester City Football Club.  Might be surprising since I live in the US.  Gave up on American football a few years back, but was loving World Cup, and wanted to see more football (soccer here in the States).  One day, my wife says, "Do we get Fox Soccer Channel?".  Yes indeed, we did.  Now it's NBC Sports Network.

Picked Manchester City as my team because my wife and I have a friend who lives in Manchester, and couldn't root for Man United.  Just couldn't.  Big Smile  Found out there was another team in Manchester, and that became my team.  Had no idea where they were in the standings when I picked them.  That was the 2011-2012 season.  Hurt myself celebrating Sergio Aguero's goal in stoppage time to win the league that season.

Avatar is the Man City jersey patch.

Hey Toshi, I gave up on football mainly due to free agency.  Got really attached to players, then they would end up on teams I did not like.  Same happens in the Premier League, although it doesn't bother me as much for some reason, and doesn't seem to happen as often.  I think part of it was watching World Cup and just loving the "beautiful game" and the passion of the fans.

I am doing pretty well overall, thanks for asking.  I have to be careful with my back, but if I don't push it too hard and keep stretching, I do well enough.

World Cup has been surprising already, and talk about fans!  When Mexico scored against Germany, the celebration actually registered on the richter scale!

I had to change my name and avatar because I got trolled and some of my posts were used against me in a legal fight that I was only a witness in. I suppose that party, who lost, gave up on it at some point.

My screen name is that of my paternal grandfather and great grandfather. My grandfather was adopted at a young age and his first/ middle/ last were changed to what was then my fathers and now my name.

I also got kicked off of the forum for awhile and it became obvious to me that I needed to re-align my profile.

I'm no fan of the NFL. But I do follow college football. I'm a lifelong Stanford fan, and also follow Cal.

My favorite sport is the one with the little caps. Not helmets. Not played on a gridiron; played in a "park".

Thought 2 of the coolest things I saw when I was in was the U-2 pilot in his space suit (that was totally cool), and an A-10 that "caught" a 20mm shell underneath the tub (I have a feeling the pilot had to change his underwear when he got back to his dorm).

Our transmitter racks were anywhere from 4 to 8 feet off the ground on the 52's depending on fuel loads......150 lb box, slick with coolant oil, more than one hit the ground when someone lost their grip. Like Striker, still trying to get that oil out of the system after 45 years.

I was at Beale alongside the 9th SRW and the SR71's, now there's a sight when one rolls out.  First night takeoff I saw, will never forget, everything went dark, and we just sat down leaned up against a front wheel and waited till the ramp lights came back on after it left.  Prettiest blue burner flame you ever would want to see.

Well my nicname is one of the nicnames of East German car Trabant, . I have several old East German cars in my stash. Most of those are Trabants. Germans calls Trabants as "Rennpappe" and finns as "vauhtipahvi" (speed cardboard) because outer shell of the car is basicly made from cardboard. In finnish forums I use "Vauhtipahvi" as my nic.

My avatar is drawn by my friend. It´s cardboard box with wheels in speed.

My avatar is the heraldic crest of 421 'Red Indian' Squadron, R.C.A.F.  The McColl-Frontenac Oil Company allowed 421 Sqn to use their Indian head logo as the emblem for the squadron.  The squadron was disbanded in 1993.  My uncle was a memer of 421 Sqn flying a Canadair Sabre coded AX-365 at the time of his fatal accident (65 years and 15 days ago) at Grostenquin, France on 09 June 1953.

Thank you sir for sharing that wonderful story of your families Heraldic Crest of 421 “Red Indian” Squadron, R.C.A.F.  And I find it touching that you’ll remember the exact day when your uncle passed on.

Nino, from my understanding the Navy was a product of necessity, Continential Marines could not swim and all the ships belonged to the wrong flag. No offense intended for our British brethren.

The US Marine Corps was formed after the US Navy was created.

Well, my name is Gary Duane Mason. I was in the Marines for 11.5 years, hence the "Devil Dawg" nickname, which is a nickname the Marines were given by the German Army in World War 1, also known as the Great War. It's actually spelled "Devil Dog", but that was already taken (although I never see it used on here, for some reason), so I tried "Dawg" instead of "Dog" (I was also living in Georgia at the time.....), and you can probably figure out the rest.

My avatar is a picture of me from 2008 when I went to Okinawa to see my Marine son marry his Okinawan sweetheart. She has taught me quite a bit about Japanese heritage and history, and the language, too. I've also learned what Japanese foods are good to eat, and which ones stare at you while you eat them.

Yep, heard that line many times - "First To Go, Last To Know!"

We were formed back on 10 November 1775, to serve aboard US Navy ships of the line. I think the Navy was formed a month before that, 13 October 1775. So, we're practically twins!

My avatar as you can see is a Tiger tank, I chose that as im a fan of German Armor.  I consider myself to be somewhat an amateur war historian, I cant seem to get enough of it.

My name goes back to my time in the service,  I crewed KC-135 Stratotankers for 6 years and the term Tankereasy started as joke amongst myself and some buddies of mine which eventually just stuck.  I started using it a few years ago as my official online name Bow Down

My name is one that I've used on several forums, most of them automotive-based. We autocross a 3rd Gen Pontiac Firebird that was painted up to look like a crash test car (gray with yellow and black circles, etc.), so we're known as the crash test dummies, since we drive a crash test car. Luckily, we've never crashed it. The avatar is a copy of some nose art from a lakster, a salt flats race car that was built out of an old WWII drop tank. I liked the paint job, so grabbed it to use here. Gene Beaird, Pearland, Texas

Nice idea for a thread Toshi!

My name is just the initials of my first, middle and surname - first name is Christopher.

My Avatar is a photo i took at the 2007 Gold Coast Indy Race (back when the Gold Coast used to host an Indy).

It's a pic of an RAAF F-111G pulling up out of it's low fly over doing a dump'n'burn.

I love the photo because:

a. I took it; and

b. I figured it is a subtle hint to those in the know of where i'm likely from - the RAAF's were based at Amberley, near Brisbane Australia, and as far as i'm aware, i've only seen RAAF's F-111s do the dump'n'burn.  So thought most people who knew planes would realise I'm from Queensland, Australia just from a quick glance at the photo.

For some reason, all the vids and pics i've ever seen online were of RAAF F-111's.  Maybe we just held onto them long enough for them to appear more frequently on internet searches.

US military and wasting fuel? Nah, never... Wink

But the F-111 was phased out of service here in the mid 90’s or so, before all this digital photography went mainstream. Like the A-6 Intruder, it’s swan song for combat in our colors was in the 91 Gulf War. By the time of the Balkan Wars of the mid and late 90’s, they were phased out.

My name is Brynn Wryttur, but my real name is Lyndon Sandford. Brynn Wryttur is my pen name/ the name I use when I don't want someone to know my real name. It's also a Serbic name, which is where I descend from on one side of my family.

My avatar is the Hawker Typhoon, one of my favorite aircraft. My great uncle landed in Normandy 6 weeks after D-Day with the Canadian Army and was saved by a Typhoon sortie.

He was actually born in Ukraine and spent his time as a young boy as a shepherd and a lookout for Cossack raids. His family fled to Leipzig, Germany during WWI, where my grandmother was knocked out of a tree during an air raid and became deaf. He went to school under Joseph Himmler, Heinrich Himmler's father.

After the war, they emmigrated to Canada. My Great Uncle ended up returning to Leipzig during WWII. I believe it was under Soviet occupation.

A bit off topic, but maybe someone will find it interesting.

Well BrynnWryttur, I would have never guessed.  Very cool pen name and an even cooler connection with your avatar and your great uncle! Thank you for sharing, especially the story.

Since I'm particularly interested in WW II Kilroy Was Here seemed to be a natural fit.
