What is your favorite subject catagory?
Posted by modelcrazy on Monday, June 18, 2018 1:59 PM

My interests move from one category to the next frequently which can be frustrating at times. I may be in the middle of an airplane or armor build and lose interest in the subject and get an urge to build Sci-Fi or ships. This may last a month or a year, then I'll lose interest in one of those categoies again and switch back to aircraft or whatever.

So, I have been wondering, does anyone else suffer from this affliction?

Also, what is your favorite category?

Mine are (typically). Of course, this is today mind you.

1. Ships

2. Planes

3. Armor

4. Sci-Fi

5. Figures (Busts, Supper Heros, Gundum, etc.)

If I were to put them into Favorite to less favorite...

1 : WWII German Submarine's

2: Automobile's , including trucks. Any vehicle made before 1979.

3: WWI aircraft

4: ship's in general ( Preffer WWII but any ship will do ... including sail's )

5: WWII aircraft. I'm split right down the middle concerning   Axis  OR  Allied

6: Figure's  Just about anything I can find, I build. ( Mostly your D&D type stuff.)

7: Armor. This is at the bottom of my list because there are so few Tank's that I like. but when I do build them..... It's usually more than one at a time.

8:Space / Science Fiction. Once in a "Blue Moon " I will assemble something "Not Of This World".

The above list can / will change ... depending on what time of day it is ...

EDIT: I totally forgot, HO (1/87) scale train's. For this list just insert Train's inbetween each catagory. I build train's all the time, so maybe they should be #1

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage".

US WWII and US 'Nam aircraft - 1/32 & 1/48.  The bigger aircraft I can handle in 1/72.

WWII warships, prefer US, but will dabble in German and Japanese if the fancy strikes me.  1/144 & 1/350.

Have some armor, spread out over different eras.

1/35 figures and vingnettes/dioramas. With figures and a piece of Armor or something else to look at. I like eclectic subjects.

Hi,

For me, mostly ships, and some cars, though I used to do some airplanes as well.

Right now, I am especially interested in commercial ships, smaller ships, pre-dreadnaught era ships and 1940 to mid 1950s cars and trucks. Smile

I bounce back and forth as well. But I tend to stick primarily with armor, aircraft, and figures, so it’s more between eras than the kit types. So I vary my kits between:

WWII

Cold War

Vietnam

Korea

Arab/Israeli Wars

Gulf Wars

”other” wars, incidents, interventions, etc.

and the occasional dabble in ships, sci fi, and real space.

Wow! What an interesting subject. For me it’s all I like to build, paint and weather. I guess my inspiration is the movies for example the beast,I look in  my stash oh a t-55 and I start on it. Airplanes ,cars, ships , science fiction, monsters I love it all. I’m still a 58 year old kit at heart And yes there all at the top.

I tend to flit between my main subjects types from build to build. And my favorites are pretty much fixed. But my order of prefreance would be.

1 Anything German, hard to chosse a favorite between aircraft and armour, i just happen to have more aircraft.

2 Other 1/72nd aircraft in this order

 Norfolk based

 Modern British

 Modern US

 Anything else

3. Sci-Fi

Well , Let's See;

1 -- Ships -anything that is bigger than 1/700 And all types , military and civilian .

2 -- Planes , especially those that float .I don't care what country as long as it floats , as I said .

3 --  Autos , all types , mainly the classic cars from the thirties .

4  -- Tank ships .All types , from a Guiness Beer Tanker to a L.N.G. Mega Tanker

5 -- Self propelled Guns , any country any scale .

6 -- Staff Cars and lite skins any type .

7 -- Science Fiction , Submarines and Research Vessels .

8 -- MasterBox or Verlinden Pretty Ladies , in 1/24 scale preferrably .

9 -- Paper model Ships and planes , with the planes being large scale Civilian Transport types .

  10 -- LEGOS , all types and venue .

Anything I can build a model out of , from a Beer can to a Pill bottle and everything in between .

OOPS ! ! I forgot one genre . Helicopters !! The odder or more different the better . I especially like Apaches , OH. 6 birds any configuration and the Larger helos  , All of them .

Just got reminded about my Nemesis , Trains . Stuck there for a long time and do build and play with them in H.O.Scale !

You forgot Train's too. I know you build em.

( Your not the only one who "forgot" them... So did I. Had to go back and "edit" my list.)

My ranking of categories varies all the time.  I think that means my favorites are pretty close in interest (aircraft, ships, racing cars) but I build other things too (a little bit of armor and artillery, occasionally dioramas, trucks, railroad things.

I once told people I would model anything that moved under its own power.  Then, in a catalog for book lovers, I found a kit for the Gutenberg printing press, ordered and built it.

I am highly susceptible to the media!  Regardless of what I am working on at the moment, if I read a good book on some subject, or see a movie or TV show on something, I am driven to model something related to it.  I guess this is the reason I have so many models in my stash, and so many models in my temporary (shelves of doom) area.

Yeah Don, come to think of it I like trying, or at least thinking about, replicating sunken ships. I watch the new series "Drain the Ocean" on NatGeo and the last episode showcased sunken treasure. The wreck of the Atocha or HMS Edinburgh looked interesting.

Military aircraft is #1 for me.  Helicopters would have to be #2.  I did enjoy building a 1/12 model of my car, but it would really have to be something I cared about, I have purchased a motorcycle kit, but haven't gotten to it yet.  Again, it would have to be a bike I liked.  Not really into tanks, busts, figures, sci-fi stuff.  I guess I'm just fascinated with things that fly, lol.

There was a time when I lived and breathed model railroads. I still have all of my rolling stock in storage, thinking one day I might put it on display.

I gave it up when I no longer had adequate real estate.

I use to have 2 plastic tubs full of N scale rolling stock and engines I collected throughout the years, but I finally realized I'll never have the room for a layout so I sold everything off.

Oh man,

I thought it was ships, then aircraft, and maybe cars, but then I built a tank and thought no, thats not it, but just today, I thought I saw a motorcycle GB offering and its caught my attention like a Great Dane seeing a squirrel.

No wonder I can't finish anything.  And don't get me started down the road with model trians, RC planes, or anything controlled by a radio for that matter, rockets, and sports cars.

My stash is mostly military planes from WW1 to more modern and early jets. My armor is all WW2. So with that said I’m between armor and planes but more into planes, at least for now. Naval subjects are also interesting.
