Well, here is another pre-weekend Bakster post. It is seeded from a good meal and some refreshing grog.

I recently had the pleasure of caring for a friends cat, whilst my friend convalesced from a vexing illness.

Aye, the cat a rambunctious sort. Stubborn in its nature, even unto human hissing and strategic pillow throw. Some occasion its nature perplexed, quickly returned to prowling ways. Loving in its way, quickly forgiven of its test. The creature returned to a healthier owner, saddened to lose it's foe.

Ah yes. I love cats, but it was a test to model around him. I found myself planning the best times to work. Maybe on full stomach he would relent. Sometimes it worked, other times, not so much. When all else fails, throw something onto the floor diverting the creature for perhaps a minute.

And maybe you have a tale to tell.

My cat does not care about my models one bit. But he does not like the clink of metal tools being tossed back into the tool box when he is trying to sleep on my bed. And he would rather have me spend time following him around the living room petting him, rather than working on a silly model.

Sounds like you made a lifelong friend, there Bakster.

I'm so used to the solitude in my work area, if anything moved I might keel over from surprise.

Maybe the cat heard me calling you Hamster, and instict kicked in???

Our cat Diego also doesn't care one bit about the goings on on the worktable. He is an attention seeker, however. So, according to him, I must take appropriate breaks to pet him and rub his belly. This keeps his squawking at bay.

My sisters dog stays with us during the day while all the family are at work, school etc and she is content to be on my bed within sight of me, computer and workbench etc. All my model packages that are delivered aren't cat scanned as we don't have a cat, but are given a thorough dog sniffing safety check!

She doesn't interfere in my building and gets plenty of ear scratching and love. Also she cuddles up when it is time for an afternoon nap.

Real G--it sounds like you have a slightly more doscile cat. That is the better option.

Yes--true. When I told him that I had to take him back to his owner--he gave me a cry that sounded like Please NO! I have never heard anything like it from a cat. And why would he want to go. I spoiled him rotten! He loves fried chicken, and that was an almost daily treat. Then, I played with him a lot. I had him running around like a madman. For a 13 year old cat (human years), he moves pretty well. And--my house was a pallace in comparison to the tiny apartment he lives in. But -- all that said--his owner can love on him more than I can. I know that he missed her much.

And that was my problem too! He crawls around in my basement and then jumps up on the bench. It is hard to focus on any precise work when you have the threat of impending doom.

Dang it! Why didn't I think of that! LOL. It's true. Cats can't resist boxes. Nor can they resist paper. Lay it on the floor and they go right to it. Tissue paper... forget about it. That is pure luxury to them.

Yes, it can be. Only, this guy comes back like a fly to rotting meat! The owner of the cat is on oxygen and she has found that the sound of releasing air from the bottle sends him packing. So much so--he may hide for hours. That is a bit extreme but some days call for it.

Just a half hour ago, I was attaching some flaps to an airplane wing, and one of the cats went sailing across the table, scattering all the pieces on the floor. An unnecessary interruption, but I found them all and resumed.

Princess Archie especially likes to tip over the water container, when I'm wet-sanding. Everytime I move it, she follows it around and paws at it. Earlier this week, I was slow intercepting her, and she managed to dump it all on the floor.

It's nice for the cats to take an interest.

I wouldn't have understood this except my daughter occasionally texts me pics of her cats sitting/hiding/playing in/on boxes. This pic made me smile, thank you.

I agree, give the cat a box to mess with and they tend to leave you alone for a bit.

We have a new 1/2 Siamese kitten. The other 1/2 is a black long hair, got dad's coloring and mom's long hair. Got a feeling she is going to be a problem when I get the new bench set up, she wants to get into everything and taste test - read...chew - it. Hopefully she'll mellow as she grows.

CMK... That sounds very familiar. Sammie was swatting at things on my bench too. And I love your, it's nice the cats to take an interest attitude about it. Lol. I agree up until they make me mess up or I can't get anything done.

The cat owner texted me last night. My friend fell asleep in her chair shortly after a grocery delivery. When she woke up, she found that Sammie dug into the groceries, found a bag of catfood, and chewed through to reach the crunches. I laughed. And that is Sammiecat.

Siamese cats - oh they so crazy! We took care of Mooney, a friend’s Siamese, for a year, and he was a weirdo! Same thing with Toonster, who lived across the street. He would come over and sit in my dad’s lap when dad was trying to read his Business Week mags outside.

My ex MIL had a Siamese....one of the most evil things I ever did see. This one seems to be a lover though, at least so far. Just have to wait and see how much of Takhli's personality comes from her dad. At least she is training her staff at this point. Big Smile

They do seem to have an affinity for plastic. We've had a few that absolutely loved cantelope too. Stick a knife in a melon and they appeared out of nowhere with meow,meow,meow......

That is funny about the cantalope. My cat liked it too and she was a finicky eater.
