Some wonderful interests and talents shown here.

My other hobbies include playing music (drums/percussion) at home and studio. I played out professionally for around 30 years before slowing down to take time with my special needs son. I still manage to get several hours of play time per week.

Another passtime I enjoy is motorcycling, I own two. One is a sport bike with a side car so Jarrod (my son) can ride with me. The other is my Harley that I use to go one up.

Outside of that I still enjoy some time at the range. Just a month ago I helped Jarrod hit his first clay bird with my Ruger Red Label O/U; and he totally enjoyed it. Currently I like to shoot pin tops, steel target, 22 bench, trap, and skeet. I would like to get back into IDPA defensive pistol shooting sometime too.

That is so cool, I too once played jazz professionally.  Traveled around the with my band Jazz Attack. I also have been a musician for 30+ years.  Thanks to my father of which whom also played the trumpet like myself and professionally worked till the day he died.  What you so do is inspirational with your son!  Good luck to you both.

I've never seen such a philatelic collection like yours.  That's absolutely stunning!  I'm most intrigued by your collection.  Do you have other collections or albums in that you'd like to share?  Please do so.

My Summer is taken up putzing around in my perennial garden. It's pretty much a daily job keeping up with weeds, trimming plants and planting new plants. This was an awful year for gardening in the Chicago area. Dryest and hotest Summer on record. Sprinkling is not a replacement for rain water. Starting tomorrow (Sunday) we are supposed to get five days of rain. Feast or famine.

Your comments and questions are always welcome.

Mrchntmarine,

Not really, but feel free to display them in this thread.  I'm always inquisitive in learning and seeing new concepts and styles of philately.  Both Mrs. Toshi and I were born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii.  I'm slowly and surely trying to build up my Kingdom of Hawaii stamps.  I would love to own some Missionary stamps on cover but that's such a rare collection.

Check out my other thread; "The Hermit Kingdom".  I just received those stamps the other day.  I sent for them out of extreme curiosity.  I'm awaiting covers from WWII, one is a cover dated on the day of the signing of the Japanese surrender aboard the;" Mighty Mo"!  There's another cover that was censored mail during WWII.

I'm enjoying my time by following through with my interest in WWII aircraft model building and stamps/memorabilia from that era!  Thank you sir for your kind words and interest in my thread, I greatly appreciated and looking forward to more!

To seastallion53,

I have been a sushi chef trained by the student of the official sushi chef of the Empreror of Japan.  I am now retired as a Edo Mae Zushi Chef.  But I'll post my knives made by Masamoto cutlery.  They are hand forged and made exactly in the style of the traditional samurai sword where it's pounded and continuously bent in the process to eliminate impurities.

Your friend's, Toshi and Ezra

P.S.  Please post your interesting cutlery on this thread to share with FSM Forum Members!

That is a delightfully beautiful garden!  Although I live in a apartment/condo complex my neighbor with Ezra has planted these items for the summer!  It's nothing compared to your garden but Ezra and I enjoy the blooms in the day.

Other hobbies .  .  .  Gee, which one! I've got so many hobbies that it's ridiculous; that's probably why I can't afford to narrow it down. (reverse logic at it's best!).

Between building rifles (AR's), shooting, reloading, models, historic research, writing, and very amateur photography, my dance card is pretty full. Then you add in the stuff I do with the VFW and Band of Brothers. And in front of that list is caring for my wonderful wife and running our small ranch (now that's a full time thing to start with; horses can tear things up!)

So, which hobby do you want to know about? go ahead, pick one .  .  . !!!

"Why do I do this? Because the money's good, the scenery changes and they let me use explosives, okay?"

WOW!  You sir, are very diversified.  May I ask if you would be so kind to share with FSM Forum Members your farm and family!  Since I became a member here on FSM Forums, I've been included as a family of this great collaboration modelers.  A true; "Ohana" of which means family in Hawaiian, Mrs. Toshi and I including our son and daughter hail from Honolulu, Hawaii.

So your post had touched my heart when you described the idyllic all American farm.  Thank you sir for your reply to this thread!

"Diversified", yeah, that's a nice way of putting it; Mahalo.

As for farm and family, My wife, Annie, and I have five acres, half of which is horses. They are what is refered to as 'dry-lotted', meaning that we don't have green grass fields for them to graze on. It's mostly dirt and scrub, but that's the nature of things in the high desert.

My number two son (now a cop in California) was born in Honolulu (Tripler) while I was stationed there back in the 80's. I believe that it wasn't til we moved back to the mainland that he actually wore shoes. It was shorts and dakine slippers only. With that we still push for the kamaaina discount!

And now, for a cheap shot at the "cute" factor;

This is our little guy, although he's now 2-1/2 and looks like a horse (eats like one too).

I'm most impressed by your farm!  That sir, is a lot of work to take care of as you mentioned earlier on this thread.  Very cute!

They say it's a small world, Tripler hospital, slippers (Flip Flops) is what they are called out here in Cleveland, Ohio, and one word I haven't heard in a very long time;"Kamaaina"!  Thank you so much for the fond memories, you've brought me great joy!

The last time I went home was 1999, That was for my father in laws funeral.  We lived in Maui at that time as I was employed at the Maui Marriot in Ka'ana'pali.  What great memories!  I'm shocked to be able to remember things.  You see, I had a very bad work related injury that caused me to get seizures and TBI.

I now struggle with memory, fine motor skills, seeing, and walking.  Many doctors were surprised that I did not perish in this incident.  Yet, due to these fine FSM Forum Members, I very slowly recuperated and pushed forward to regain some semblance of myself and regained the ability to build WWII aircraft models.  Again all thanks to these fine members of this forum of which whose have my back since the start of my joining FSM Forums in 2012.

What great people they are, true to their words!  My FSM; "Ohana"!  Thank you once again for sharing, I'm but most greatful.

Well, I mentioned taking care of my wife, that's because she's in the same boat as you. In Oct. 2017, she took a fall and got a brain bleed / TBI. End effect was like a stroke, so she requires some help; thus I can't have a job that keeps me away from the house very long, which means that I can't have a real job at all. Writing works, when I can get words on paper. Just published my second book, a kids story (middle grades) that is the first of a series. So, that's good, but it won't pay the bills. That's especially true right now when most schools are not in session, so I can't get the book into the kids hands. I'm still working on it none-the-less.

So, that's one of the reasons I have so many other activities - to keep my brain from turning to Jello.

Hi Toshi - good looking knives....  I recently have been looking to upgrade from starter and old, old knives to maybe Mcusta or Tojiro's.  Just starting to look.  So, what i have here are some keel laying covers from the USS Honolulu - you mentioned Hawaii....  A single i like and picked up and some others from Hawaii.  Some irish trains i liked, 1066 Battle of hastings w/ phosporscent strips, some US treasuries, east indies and french...  Kind of all over the place.  I have many naval covers - but no missouri...

Keep on modeling!

All the best,

William

HooYah deep sea,

I'm so sorry to hear of Mrs. HooYah deep sea situation.  But I definately understand the issues with TBI.  A couple of years ago, Mrs. Toshi had a 8cm. brain tumor removed at University Hospital Main Campus in Cleveland, Ohio.  It took a very long time for her to heal.  She still is on medication and has occasional seizures.   They know more about outerspace then they do about the human brain.

I'm in the process of trying to regain strength and play Jazz once again.  Thank you for sharing!

Wow, Wow, Wow, that's an most impressive collection.  I don't have much of the BOB (Back of the book) items.  What I do have, I'm still slowly building upon.  I had a much more extensive collection during the mid-80's and 90's.  I sold that entire collection to McCully Stamp Shop as we were relocating to Maui, and my eyes were set to move onto the mainland USA, where wages, eduacation, cost of living, and bigger and better opportunities were available for my children.

Your friend's, Toshi & Ezra

This is my humble collection of stamps of the Kingdom of Hawaii.  Below that are my 2 most important and historic and monetarily valued Penny Black and the Penny Red (Scott#3).  I have my eyes on the Penny Blue (Scott#2).  But it's very expensive.

My other BOB I recently found.

To my fellow forum members,

I found this topical item of Hawaii and would like the opportunity to share this with members.  I've also included other misc. items as I prefer to share this 2nd. hobby with my FSM Forum Family instead of another stamp forum.  So here goes...

Your friend's, Toshi & Ezra

Below, you'll find a FDC (First Day Cover) of the celebration, and honor of becoming the 50th State in the Union!

This FDC is unique as for a collectibility stand point (Supply & Demand) it has what's called a plate number block of 4.  Either 4 to 6 stamps that have the attaching plate number and position can this fall into this type of philatelic genre.

In keeping it Topical with all things Hawaii in stamps.

A much more up to date 21st. century stamps now use laser printing and self adhesive backing instead of licking gum on the back of the stamp like we were all used to.  Thinking back recently with all this COVID19 issues going around I think that's the last thing a collector in philatelics needs is to handle some ones contaminated spit adhered to the back of a stamp.  Lol!

This is the cool thing about hobbies, sharing and passing down the knowledge to the next generation.  Expanding their minds and understanding the values, respect, and historic evaluation why things are.  Or as Ezra says; "Why"?

Your friend's, Toshi & Ezra

The stamps Ezra is displaying is called "1968 Historic Flag Series".  It starts with the Fort Moultrie Flag, Fort McHenry Flag, Washington's Cruisers Flag, Bennington Flag, Rhode Island Flag, First Stars and Stripes flag, Bunker Hill Flag, Grand Union Flag, Philadelphia Light Horse Flag, and the final First Navy Jack Flag.
