Eye surgery on Wednesday, November 17
Posted by JohnnyK on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 5:01 PM

On Wednesday I am having a cataract removed from my left eye. The replacement lense will correct the astigmatism in that eye but it will not correct the farsightedness. It will take two weeks until I get a  prescription for a new eyeglass lens.  I have no idea if I will be able to do modeling until I get a new prescription.

Your comments and questions are always welcome.

Best of luck!  A couple weeks of isn't too bad.  You'll be back at it in no time.

Thanks,

John

My wife had both of hers taken out and had corrective lenses installed.  She ended up having to get a pair of glasses to compensate and for a while she would get confused about what they were supposed to correct because she had worn glasses so long and they changed from one vision to the other.

Eventually I will have to get this done too.  I don't know if they can fix a underlying problem with the corneas in my eyes that are filling up with fluid and throwing my perscription off but at least they can remove the cattaracts.  Right now everything is a bit fuzzy and out of focus which really makes building more dificult, expecially when working on small scale kits.

Both of my spouses had it done for both eyes.  They both went for distance vision, and glasses for close work.

I'll probably have to have it done if I get that far.

Good luck, and get back to normal ASAP

Best of luck with the procedure. About 7 years ago I had cataracts removed from both eyes and have 20/20 vision as a result although I still need reading glasses. It's a miracle operation.

I had cararact surgery on both eyes three years ago at age 72. I was astonished at the difference, particularly in the improvement in my color vision. I was extremely nearsighted before and had worn glasses since the second grade. Now my distant vision is perfect, and I only require a pair of over-the-counter reading glasses for close vision (reading, computer work, and modeling). The procedures were done by laser and were absolutely painless. I was given a mild sedative by IV and slept through the entire procedure both times!

I had to have some minor follow-up surgery on one eye about a year ago to remove some scar tissue that had built up, but other than that (which is not uncommon in some patients), I have had absolutely no complications.

It is a miracle, and it will change your life for the better.

Thanks for the positive thoughts everyone. I appreciate them.

I am anxious over this whole thing; however, I am looking forward to getting my eye fixed. It has become difficult to drive because everything is fuzzy. Driving at night is really difficult. Headlights, taillights, and traffic lights all have big halos around them. I told my eye doctor to slip me some extra "juice" so that I will be really knoicked out. I do not want to know what is going on.

I'll be joining the group soon. The doc says that they are not "Ripe" enough yet. I'll be going for distance vision with "reading glasses" for up close. I've already got quite a few different optical helpers so I won't have any problems.

My wife got hers done a couple of years ago with no problems.

Good luck.

I had cateract surgery several years ago.  I selected the long distance option, so I do need reading glasses.  But the neat thing is, the reading prescription is the same in both eyes, whereas I used to need different lenses for each eye (my eyes were not identical in power).

Now I can use readers from the dollar store, and I can use different power readers so I have three sets- reading and two different powers of closeups.

I had the surgery yesterday. They used a laser to correct my astigmatisim and to cut aroung the lense. When I look throught my left eye today it looks like I am looking through a dense fog. Is that normal?

Be patient, be calm, lay back and give 'em time.

Give it about three days and you should see a good amount of improvement. Follow their post operative instructions to the letter and you should be fine.

I cannot vouch for any of the other lens offerings since I have had no experience with the other options.

If you picked the see far option and chose the vivity lens there should be no glare or halo after you heal up and you should be able to see and read (your car dashboard instruments) without a problem, however you will most likely need readers for close up reading.

My mother picked the see far option and went through this with astigmatisim correction too. She used the temporary post-operative steroid eyedrops they recommended at the surgery site which cost about $65.00 but worth the cost when your eyes are the prize.

Hope this helps.

As for myself I only have one eye to worry about..... but it's still at 20/20.

Hope you are doing better JK. I too will eventually have to  experience this type of surgery. I went in January for new glasses and the doc says I have very early signs.

Everyone, thanks for the positive thoughts.

This photo pretty much replicates what I see through my left eye. This is a photo of my garden. My eye doctor told me that my sight should get better after the weekend.

Well, the vision in my left eye has cleared up considerably, however my left eye is slightly out of focus. My eye surgery had complications because of two things. I have small pupils that do not dilate when given dilation eye drops. The result is that my pupils had to be manually dilated during surgery. I don't know what that means, but it dosen't sound good. Second, I had a dense cataract which was difficult to remove. Both of these complications are not common. I was told that it may take weeks before the vision in my left eye returns to normal.

Tomorrow will be two weeks since my cataract surgery on my left eye. The cornea in my left eye is swollen, which means that my left eye is very slightly out of focus. It will take two to three weeks before the swelling goes down and I can't get a new eye glass perscription until the swelling goes down. I took the left lens out of my eyeglasses. I see double vision unless I look straght forward. Major p.i.t.a. On the plus side, the astigmatism in my left eye was correct during the operation.
