Ok, from reading all these replies, I have made a decision.  I am going to start a product line of steel 'topped' socks.  Like the steel tipped boots, but socks, and on the top.  Beacuse the majority of issues seem to go this way

I have never had an accident that drew blood but one time I messed up the paint job on a female figure I was painting. So, after letting the figure soak in thinner for a while I started to scrub the paint off with an old tooth brush. While I was scubbing I would dip it back in thinner. Never even though once about putting on rubber gloves. Needless to say my hands were in a lot of thinner for a long time and I ended up with chemical burns all over both hands. Very painful. Stupid me!

I'm surprised Daywalker has not told on me yet but a few months ago I was in the shop with no shoes on. I was useing some ca and yes I glued my foot to the floor.

Lets just say I think some skin is still on the shop floor.

The one I remember the most happened the winter of '55 or '56.  In those days, Disney land came on at 630 pm on Saturday nights. That particular night, they were doing a show from Future Land, and I decided I was going to build a model rocket based on the show subjects.  So while mom and dad got ready to go to a party at the country club (a weekly thing), I laid out some newspapers in front of the tv, got a fairly large block of rather hard balsa and my Exacto knife and settled in.  About 10 minutes into the show (and dividing my attention between the tv and the block of balsa), my knife slips and cuts my left hand to the bone in the ball just below the thumb.  Blood going everywhere (thankfully only on the news paper).  Being a kid and knowing I'm in trouble, I head for the kitchen, figuring that if I run cold water over the cut, it will stop the bleeding (lots of luck, I was finding out what the expression "bleeding like a stuck hog" means) and mom won't suspect a thing.

Of course, mom hits the kitchen about thirty seconds after I do, (little brothers have such big mouths), and yes she's not happy.  Upshot is that 45 minutes later I'm again seated in front of the television - with the hand bound up with bandages and 6 stitches I didn't have an hour previously - and the folks still made it to the party on time. 

Ouch!  If a doctor ever says 'check for metal fragments' Im going to get 'get the electro magnet'

I open paint jars with a vise and pliers all the time and haven't had any problems and hope to continue that trend.

I didn't get hurt, but my dad did. Somebody at my LHS kindly made a plexiglass case for me. One of the edges was  a bit small, and I tried to cut up the seam to loosen it, but I couldn't get it. so my dad comes down and tries to help me. Unfortunately, he slices his thumb with the exacto knife. He's fine now, and the seam was cut!

It heartens me no end to see that I'm not the only one who has lots of experience, knows better, and still occasionally does incredibly stupid things. Some of my friends have called such malfs "brain farts," or perhaps a better term would be "brain backfires."

Well hans, congradulations.  I dont know any modeler who can claim to have set their house on fire.

Johnny, I dont know a good modeler who doesnt have atleast 1/8th of his body coated in some sort of paint.  Get this, the BOTTOM of my freaking foot has paint on it!

And tiger, your just lucky you didnt get all that paint into the cut in your hand, that owuld be baaaad.

Worst personal injury accident?  Ran the steel cutter in my Dremel across the nail on my left thumb while it was going about flank speed... It clipped the edge and buried itself under my nail... Ouchie...

Worst screw-up that could have resulted in total loss of house & home?  About 35 years ago I  poured some resin "water" for a Monogram Kingfisher (yeah, it was an old kit then, too) diorama and wanted it to cure a bit faster than the last pour, so I doubled the amount of hardener, and headed downstairs to eat lunch... All of a sudden I heard m' mom screech from upstairs and ran up there to find the entire upstairs completelt dark with soot, impossible to see, and made my way into room where I discovered the merry little bonfire of my dio, model, and desk on fire...

The catalyst I used too much of caused the resin to generate so much heat that it set the model, and consequently the desk, on FIRE!

Luckily, the only real damage was to my room and the hallway from soot, but it coulda been a helluva lot worse...  Oh, yeah... And I was grounded from using chemicals in my room, too... Or anywhere else, for that matter... 

I aways work careful so I have had just some minor cuts. Or things like sanding my nails off whilst trying to sand a vacform part. The most painfull probably was getting a piece of plastic in my eye whilst using my dremel. Always have safety goggels on when you are using a Dremel!!!

 Yea, getting the modeler's vote for best kit is the best thing.  Its like doog's thread about best in show, so what he ddint get a prize (other then a trophy) he had the best model there

That sounds painful.

I have long, curly, wild hair... I got it caught in my dremel once, I had to cut a hunk of hair out of my head because I couldnt get it knotted after I got it off the dremel.

There was a thread on this topic awhile back…

I severed the tendon on top of my left index finger with a circular saw in my Foredom. I was in a hurry = I was stupid.
