2016 Wish List ??
Posted by ModelMan68 on Friday, December 11, 2015 2:36 PM

Hello everyone,

As I finish up on my last build for 2015, I was thinking of what my "wish list" for 2016 was going to be. I have deceided to build a rather larger than normal diorama either from WWII or the Viet Nam war. I was just wondering if my fellow hobbiest may have any models or a dio they are just biting at the bit to build?

This year i was lucky enough to be able to build a dio i had wanted to do for 20 years. I have a few other projects i have wnated to do for years, but i won't get to them next year. So my wish list is pretty simply for 2016. Build at least one Stuka and one 251 half track.

Be inetrested to see what others have planned.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

USS Johnston from Taffy 3's suicidal run at the Japanese Center force during the battle of Samar off Latte Gulf October 25 1944.

And U-boat in heavy seas similar to this painting.

Wahoo's "running gun battle" dio with her and 2-3 shell splashes.  Will be my main build 2nd half of the year ( in the Sub Warfare GB), and hope to get one of the Phantoms (67-463) done early.

First dio and first water, so we will see what disaster awaits..................

For 2016, I'd like to get off my duff and finish something.  Anything.  Actually more than just one.  I'm working on it...

OK specifically, an A-Model or Modelsvit kit.  A big one.  A Phil "Bondo" Brandt Difficult Kit Division class project.  Like this one:

So far everyone has a great dio idea or model build for 2016. I remember the first time I worked with water for a dio I did about 4 years ago....it was more than funny trying to get it to set correctly(LOL). But since then I have worked with it and I'm glad it is part of the assortment of goodies for model building. I wish all of you great builds and will see you at the workbench. Cheers.....Steve (ModelCrazy) the photo alone would make an awesome dio but the model itself will be a great build.

P.S. - Think about you daily Steve and hope you are doing well and the medication is working.

I wish to finish the project I started when I first re-entered the hobby.  The ship my Father served on in WWII, the USS Houston CL-81 Light cruiser.

There is no kit per se of it but through my extensive reseach the 1/350 scale CL-89 Miami is close to the same ,so I bought the resin kit from Iron Shipwrights, which was horribly cast.  Almost every 1 of the 400 parts has many bubble holes in them, which especially ruins the tiny parts and adds many many hours of fixing and scratch building to make them presentable. After 2 years in the hobby, I think I've learned enough to get back on the ship model and make the tedious attempt to fix all the parts and finaly get er done.

Hi Jeff! I am going to aim big this year.  I want to do my first diorama, and hopefully a few. I would like to build my first boat/ship, and my first BiPlane. (the rigging scares me) I would also like to get some aftermarket items to add to a Sherman Tank, as I have never used any aftermarket stowage, etc. I also want to try my hand at some PE.... Pretty basic stuff, but stuff I want to do!!!

   Take Care, Rudy

I never know what I'm going to build next until I finish the last kit and face the stash.

The next project whispers my name and I am inexorably drawn to the box.... Whistling

I would just like the free time and motivation to start and complete at the rate of one kit a month in the coming year... as simple as that.

I simply want to finish more than a couple models next year. But, I really would like to see improvement from one to the next. That's my goal!

I have a Trumpy 1/32 A-7E, w/ Avionix resin pit, zacto canopy/trunk/nose correction set, and a couple-few tons of mk82's from Academy that I'd love to do. I've had it for a few years now, and every new year, I've said "THIS is the year". I've bought two a/m decal sheets, but am still having a hard time nailing down the PERFECT scheme.

Well, glaciers move faster than I build, but......I've had the Italeri water tank truck on the shelf for 25 years, having added scratchbuilt gas/brake/clutch pedals, gas tank brackets, and a headlight/grille guard. When I reattach a few parts it'll be ready for paint. Then there's the 1/48 Hawk/Testors GeeBee R1/R2 I scratchbuilt a cockpit for 4 years ago:

Alas, this one needs paint also. As for something not yet started I'm eager to crack into the just released Takom 1/35 British Mk I (female), the Great War tank.

I'd like to get to my Tiger I and Pz III that were started this year and then shelved. I really don't want to start another kit until at least one of them is finished.

For me , I simply pray that I'm able to finish one model per year. And when I do, it's usually a kit I started the prevoius year. With that said, I will be finishing the Tamiya 1/48 P-47D Bubbletop that I set aside some 2years ago after botching the Aclad paint job. It's an almost complete redo. What I will be starting is my first ever foray into ship modeling. I will be building the Trumpeter 1/700 French battleship Richilieu. I'm rather excited to get going on that.

I would like for 2016 to be a year of firsts:

Post pictures of my modeling area, my modest stash, and my other firsts.

My first:  dino dio ( if group build is a go)

                          tank

                          helicopter ( already bought )

                          car/truck  ( revell bmw i8--bought, or meng f350--will buy)

Like several others have posted, my goal this next year is to also finish more kits than I did this year. If I were to want a certain kit to add to the mix would be a 1/72 C-130(any variant). I'd also like to get my hobby room in some sort of order and locate a nice display case for finished projects.

On the Bench:  Lots of unfinished projects!  Smile

Hello Rudy, Wow!!! An impressive list for 2016....everything you listed will be great. When you start with the PE items get yourself a basic or starter PE press for bending and forming your PE parts...I didn't and had a time of it without one. We haven't talk in a while....hope all is well and you have a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year. Jeff

JJ is that the legendary Lost Cruiser ?

No Templar, that would be the CA-30 heavy cruiser lost at Savo Island, My Dad's ship, the CL-81 started out as the Vicksburg and when the CA-30 was lost, was renamed Houston in her honor.
