GB's are tons of fun. There are others working on the same theme and supporting yours. GB's are also a great place to learn a subject and new techniques.
My Prinz Eugen should be here Wednesday.

 

 PLEASE post your work--photos, hints, observations--in the proper Armor forum as well. Group Builds siphon too many good modelers and builds away from the main forums and many modelers have no interest in wading through pages of irrelevant chatter that can be based around other builds and genres just to find updates about one particular model that they may be interested in. I think I speak for a lot of guys when I say that if you participate in a group build, compose your posts in the GB forum first, but then copy the whole text (photo links included) and open a new tab and make a duplicate post in the appropriate genre forum as well. This saves you from having to re-compose the original posting and takes only seconds to do.

That may or may not be a general opinion, but what follows is certainly a good idea..

Right, for instance this thread is a distraction as titled. It makes forum searches confusing.

I'll be posting in the "1946 What If" thread, and as Karl says posting in a "Red Tail P-80 WIP" thread in "Aircraft" as well.

By no means I'm I trying to throw off or distrube any of the forums. I was just genrelizing a point. I am aware of the proper etiquette for posting in the forums and going forward I will make sure it does not intefere with the different forums....The mistake I made was the subject title.

Jeff, I don't think you're doing that at all. Group Builds "disturb" the normal forums by dint of what they are, and I am well-known to be disdainful of them for the talent and posts that they siphon away from the main forums where most modelers in a particular genre post. Honestly, if I had a modeling forum site, I wouldn't even have a GB section, whether or not that would be a popular decision. I just don't believe in them. I see them as kind of similar to "Facebook modeling", where now a lot of people now model exclusively only for their "friends" and people who they know won't give them honest, tough critique and criticisms. Not EXACTLY the same, to be fair, but you get my point...the way I see it, EVERYONE in a particular genre is already in a "Group Build" building armor, cars, ships, etc. But honetsly, I'm not tryingh to start an argument; it's just my pet peeve.

I DO hope that people don't forget to add some posts to the proper genre forums.

Karl, i don't think its quite far to blame the GB's for the decline in the otehr sections. GB's are popular for a reason, people like them. I know some don't like the banter that goes on in GB's, but for many of us, thats one of the things we like. Personally, i encourage it as for many, coming here isn't just about the models but having some fun with on line friends. In adition, GB's can often provide information that we might not get in a WiP thread. People are building related subjects and are all doing there own research so may come across information that is useful to others.

And far from being full of well done's and atta boys, there is plenty of constructiive coments and advice given, ofen in a more friendly way that can be the case elswhere.

I agree that GB's have some what taken ove rthe forum in the last couple of years, for which i except a lt of the blame. We have had far to many and this has ben to the detriment of the forum as a whole and the GB section. We have had quantity over quality. We are lucky on this forum in that we can run GB's as we see fit. But with that, we should all, both hosts and those joining GB's, be more responsable. But with some thought, we can have a bunch of great GB's as well as WiP threads for those not in that Gb and those who don't do GB's at all. And i think the balance is shifting back.

And far from taking builds away from teh forum, they can bring bulds to it as people build stuf they might not have done otehr wise. I may never have got round to a Challenger if it had not been for a GB.

I think a healthy GB section and good WiP threads can produce a really great forum, i know other successful forums have a healthy balance.

I did not take your comment personal by no means. You were within your right's as a forum member to voice your concerns. I fully understand your position on GB's and WiP. I am new to the forum but not modelling....I guess I got fired up to be apart of a "team" and not a "me" build. I think it's great that a handful or a bunch of members can get together and focus on one particular genre to build. And yes, it should not flowout into to other forums.

I don't believe an arguement was started.....we are all gentlemen here and should conduct ourself in that manner. We are apart of a great hobby and I have met A LOT of great individuals here. So, with that said I look forward to seeing a lot of your work and your imput on mine.
