A CATastrophy
Posted by stikpusher on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 7:05 PM

Yesterday, (actually the day before yesterday now) January 28th, a date which will live in infamy. (Not really in the grand scheme of things, but...)

My models were massacred as they sat resting on a peaceful Sunday morning by a marauding cat who managed to knock down some boxes of sidelined projects onto the display area below. The results now look like Wheeler or Hickam Fields... some can be salvaged, some are damaged to beyond the point where repair can be done in a scope of effort less than replacement...

The damages...

And the suspect of this heinous act.... al Qitty agent Asmara al Mariki, AKA Mako... who has just used up one of her nine lives

I will post updates as salvage operations commence...

I have no idea what your talking about. Cat's don't destroy stuff. Your cat "MUST " have been "set up " by the dog.

Caught in the act !

That's 1/2 of the tail boom of my P-61 that he is "munching " on !

Funny.... but when confronted by "photographic evidence", cats will still claim , NOT ME !

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

I'm so glad my Mooch is a floor dweller.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

Youre lucky there indeed.

Blacksheep, some of them can be saved. But I can already see that the damage to my Sturmovik is beyond the point of effort as opposed to building a replacement in the same time span. Also the F4U. Both took bad damage to the landing gear struts that would take a good amount of drilling and pinning to repair. There are also my F-80, a couple P-51s and a Mosquito under that mess as well. I’m not sure what else...

That sucks!  I have two cats, and neither one of them show any interest in my models.  There are a few there are very easy to reach.  The one cat might bump into the one when she's trying to get behind the couch but that is about it.  I worry more about my Golden Retriever being the one to cause damage.  Good luck with your repairs!

Yes, I know that feeling! Angry  You laugh about it later, but it does suck!

Keyda, the cat has no apparent interest in my models. She just loves to be in elevated places and in sunny windows... exactly where my stuff was...

Mopar, it does suck indeed... I’ve gotten past most of the anger and disbelief and into acceptance... not sure about if I’ll ever laugh about it...

Ridle, canine assistants are far superior a species.

Greg, you are correct!

Hard cheese, Stik. But the re-do's will likely turn out even better. I build scale balsa free flight models as well, years ago Tom Tom, (Siamese,) got into one that was all but finished, then shredded it into something unrecognizable.

Wife said "shouldn't have left it where he could get to it." DUH, cat's can go anywhere and everywhere, and they do. But, building the replacement just amounted to more fun at the bench.

Yes, cats are incredibly mobile. If you can get there, they easily can.

The silver lining to this cloud will be the improved replacements.

I can only imagine your feelings of Tom Tom vs your balsa build. I only completed one of those ever and it was such an investment of time and effort.

Now we all know why it is fading. You realised that it is all your fault for putting your stuff where the kitty loves to be. Bad you.

SmileSmileSmile

But it all indeed sucks. My cat climbed into that space between the ceiling tiles and it all came crashing down. Luckily, the cat missed the model that was on my table.

yeah, the only problem is that my stuff has been there for years. The cat has only been in the house for a couple of months... and was not allowed out in the garage where my stuff is at all because I had caught her up that table once before... but another daughter of mine was not paying attention going in and out of there, allowing cat access to that area..  these are all college educated adults now, not little girls... hence part of my frustration...

and recovery operations will commence with that in mind...

the area will be changed to a more stable configuration

I have had cats most of my life as well. And they are as stubborn as I am...

That makes my cat disaster last week look rather minor.

I got home one day last week to be met by my 15 year old step daughter to be told she had some bad news. Our 5 month old kitten, which has been banned from my room because unlike the 2 older cats she has taken to climbing on shelves as well as up curtains and anything else she can get up, managed to get in my room and locked in after my SD had gone in there. She went up the curtain and onto a shelf close to it and a 1/72nd B-24 got flipped off the shelf and took an 8 foot nose dive.

She is the most troublesome cat i have ever had. She has had to be banned from the bathroom as she does her buisness in the sink. And because she has been banned, it means the other cats have to be banned as we have to keep the doors shut. And our big black male likes to come into my room and just curl up.

But you can't stay mad at them for long.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

That cracked me up.

Cat antics.  Not to belittle the loss of models.

You must have been CATatonic after that.  But just PAWS FUR a minute, and CLAW your way back and re-evaluate each damaged KIT and evaluate your options in each CATegory.  Anyway... I'm just KITTEN about the damage.  What a great TAIL.

Thanks,

John

Wild fires, earthquakes, riots, mudslides, and what ever else can be thrown at SoCal, models survive. Two seconds with overbearing kitty and mayham ensues. Bummer Stik.

We have 4 yes FOUR cats roaming ALMOST EVERYWHERE in our house, I think they understand what will happen if they purposly "accidentally" damage my stuff. The 100lb yellow Lab on the other hand, his head and heart are in the right place however the breezy end seems to be operated by an alien in a totally different time zone.

I take dogs over cats hands down but they are all part of our dysfunctional family so..

Good luck with the rebuilds and BUY MORE KITS! Shopping therapy helps ease the pain and frustration.......so does a 12gauge LOL.

we're modelers it's what we do

Now I have everthing in cases behind glass,no cat problems, but years ago I had 1/350 Tamiya Enterprise out on the shelf.I actually found paw prints in the dust on the deck, how she did that without knocking it over is beyond me.
