Airfix?! I would love if they start carrying Airfix kits! Especially the new tool stuff!

I haven't seen any Airfix kits at Hobby Lobby, but I haven't looked at airplane kits. They do carry fairly new models by Bandai, Meng and a bunch of old Lindberg repops. I can't believe they repopped the old T-55 tank!

I have seen the Lindberg ones but no Meng or Bandai items at the one I go to at least for now.

They’ve been carrying Bandai Star Wars kits for a while, and recently started carrying those funny little Meng cartoon kits (I cant recall the name of the series).

I can confirm that they are now stocking the Airfix P40 and P51 (1/48), as well as the P51, P40 and Hurricane (1/72). Also an Airfix battle set.

The HL near me still has tons of empty shelf space which I assume will be stocked with new products (hopefully). As someone mentioned previously, I think this is in response to their inability to obtain Revell products.

I already have their new 1/48 P-51...

Edit- I don’t mean to imply that I bought one there. I will go ASAP to look for one...

I’ve noticed that they sometimes get interesting kits in stock, but in small amounts.

For example, I saw the Tamiya M1 Abrams on the shelf a few months ago, then never again. Same with the Tamiya infantry figures. Other ancient kits like the Walker Bulldo, however, are always there.

Roald, where do you live? Or what in city is the Hobby Lobby that you shop at located? I know that they pretty much stock their stores the same nationwide, but I just went thru the model kit section of their website, and no Airfix kits of any sort are listed there.

The store I went to is in Upland, California.

I just looked at their website and you are correct, no Airfix kits are listed. Perhaps it takes a little while for the website to catch up?

I stopped by today and only one P-51 remained. However, the shelves have stickers which indicate what kit is supposed to be stocked in each particular place. There are stickers in place for the Airfix kits which leads me to believe that they will be restocked.

Well Upland is not too far from Huntington Beach. Ceratinly have to get their stuff from the same warehouse I imagine. I’ll have a look see at the one by me in the next few days. Thanks for that info!

I love Huntington Beach, especially when it’s 105 degrees in the IE!

I would think that a large chain like HL would stock all stores at about the same time.

Then again, if the Airfix contract was just recently entered into in order to make up for the loss of Revell kits, distribution could be a little haphazard as Airfix no doubt has previous orders to fill.

What an opportunity for Airfix, though. Getting your products into an 800 store chain is nothing to sneeze at.

Exactly. A nationwide chain is going to take some time to fill, even if it’s only a dozen or half dozen kits of theirs that they will carry. Just the distribution for the ports of entry to warehouses will take some time. And as you mention, they are already filling stock for their usual wholesalers and retailers worldwide.

And yes, HB has a nice climate compared to the IE most of the time. But it’s not the town that it used to be when I grew up. Too crowded and overdeveloped now.

Which Hasegawa kits do they have? I don’t remember ever seeing Hasegawa there before.

This morning while out running an errand, I stopped by the Hobby Lobby here in HB. No Airfix there, no Hasegawa either. A few new Hobbyboss and Squadron kits. But I did find this nice pairing, and with the 40% off it was nine dollars and change...

I checked the HL here and while they have restocked there isn't any Airfix Sad. There were new Academy, HobbyBoss and few restocked Revells including the good ole B-17. They also had the Academy "Belle". Several Linberg armor and 2 new mold Tamiya M4E8s. The Bandi Star Wars inventory is growing. I Didn't have the funds to get anything right now but it was nice to see them restocking.

Ours here has become speratic, I'm sure it's because of Revell.I don't know exactly what percentage of Revell kits vs/ others but I'm sure it's at least 70%.While they are regrouping, I'm sure they'll come back better and stronger.

Sounds like our local Hobby Lobby.  I did note a lot more Squadron/Encore models on the shelves.  I also found (to my great surprise) that we have a local hobby shop in the area.
I was gazing at the Monogram B-52 / X-15 kit and wondering if I could sell a kidney...

Ours here (Albany, OR) has the 1/72's and I grabbed the 1/48 P-40B, didn't have the P-51 yet.  Going to check tonight.  The P-40 can be built as either Welch's from Pearl Harbor or an AVG bird.  May have to get another and do both.

Mansfield, OH. Has the 48th Airfix P40 and P51. I bought a Hasegawa FW 190 at HL about 10 years ago on clearance, but haven't seen any Hase models since.

Just a thought, when I ordered my  Airfix Defiant from my LHS, all his suppliers had it on back order. Took a few months to get it. Maybe Aifix supply can't make HL demand just yet.

The internet phased out the local model hobby shops.Hobby Lobby can’t save anyone with the revell and academy models.Amazon is the new king   On the block-eBay is the other option.

Amazon the new king on the block? Hardly. I have a few dedicated websites for all my hobby needs. Some nobody ever heard of. Great prices too!

My HL has always carries Vallejo paints. It just a very small range of ordinary colors. Not impressed.....

Yeah, the HL franchise here has had Vallejo Model Colour for a couple of years, along with Andrea paints, too.  A limited selection, but with sufficient colors for someone painting pieces from a time range from the 18th century through the Napoleonic Wars and Civil War, to WW II.

I found some pretty hard to find items at Freetime. Good prices too.  Never heard of Hobbymodels.  I’ll have to check them out.
