Sorry to hear that Don. Wishing you a speedy recovery and a Merry Christmas. Take it one step at a time and relax at the workbench with some plastic.

Bill, I used your post to get to Don, but I've been at the hobby for at least 78 years , it sure is a health keeper. I forget about everythi.ng else.

Hi Don, I wrote you 2 PM's in the last 3 days & I don't know what happened to them. You will be fine with the heart, I had a 9 hour 4 way bi pass 29 years ago & have had no repercussions from it. I had my yearly blood test & physical at the VA several weeks ago & the lady doctor told me I had the blood of a 30 year old man, really. I naturally asked her if I should have a 30 year old wife. My wife answered for her with NO.

Don, I was able to quit my business right away & let my brother finish the building. I moved up to NC on a lot we had & started building us a new house 3 months after the heart attack. The mountains were a permanent cure. I will be 89 in several days & you will be well too quickly.

I had 4 arteries replaced & have had no troubles. Get well, take care & keep building models. I just finished the big 1/25 MPC General 4-4-0 train engine, you would really have fun with that. It still exists in Kenasaw Ga. I even bought a second one I had so much fun.

All the best,,, Gene Foster & I gotta do this,

I do think you'll come out of this for the better.

The ticker needed repairs, they've been done.

I re-entered this hobby 15 years ago on advice of my oncologist, been in remission ever since.

Happy Holidays,

Bill

Hi Don, yeah, I had a heart attack in 17, and have had 9 stents since then. You mentioned dialisis. Are you diabetic? I have type 2 diabetes, and of late have been having troubles keeping my blood sugar regulated. I will be praying for you.

Don!!!

Hey ! I thought you were smarter than me. What did you and go do that for? Hey guy, It'll get better, just do as your doctor recommends. It isn't easy, but in the long run you'll benefit. Oh! do you like to and have a place to walk? Believe me that helped me a lot and remember I had the full Magilla. Chest cracking and all.

Stay well and don't scare us like that Okay ? Plus, now you get to watch instead being in the heap. A lot more relaxing. Note; Learn how to people watch at your local Mall. It can be a lot of yucks. Also, during Dialysis you can read every article in the mag and you'll have time to use a magnifier on the photos!T.B.

Sad to heard the news about your medical condition. On the bright side it's good that modeling is more mind than body so you'll have more time on the bench. Glad you made it through because I enjoy your posts and wise insight in this modeling world.

Glad to hear you're okay now. Is the dialysis related to your having a heart attack? I undestand it takes about 3 hours per dialysis session, you can do some modeling so you don't get bored. Take care

Sorry to hear the news Don. Take care. Follow the docs orders. Get well quick.

When I was on it, the wife and I flew to Hawaii and spent two weeks on Maui soaking up the sun. The dialysis center there was staffed with wonderful people and made our stay there great. You can also get dialysis on cruise ships. We flew instead of the cruise cause I get very seasick and that doesn't help if you're on dialysis.

Don Stauffer

Hi guys- been gone a week.  ...

So I will be working on a model in my spare time :-)

Don,  It seems longer than a week.  Missed your careful and insightful postings. I am so glad you are feeling better and that you let us know your status.   I pray your prognosis is good. Please take care.

I gather you are home already?  Perhaps that 12 hour "thing" a week will give you time to catch up on Reading and Posting.  I admire your resilience to take this in stride.

So, with that stint, can you still go back to cheeseburgers and taco's or are they limiting you to yogurt and oatmeal?  Just kidding.  Do what they Tell ya!

I will pass the word on to Warshipguy and Gene1. Both are super busy on some plastic and resin projects covering such things as Locomotives and a Ethan Allen class Sub.

Your here. It'll be a Merry Christmas.

All my good wishes to you and the family.

               Jim.

As one with similar problems, I can relate and understand what you are going through.  Modern medical techniques are on your side, they can do wonderful things today to help you.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Join the club, Don!

Listen to the doctors but most importantly listen to what your body is telling you. Ever since my heart went south in the middle of close combat in Afghanistan it is one of the main things you pay attention to is what your body is telling you.

Your heart is the engine and if that goes wrong a hole heap of other stuff doesn't fare so well. My heart and body soon tells me if I start doing more than it can cope with. It is a warning that if you continue your body is going to hurt you and the pain that your body and heart went through is nover forgotten by it. Your brain may push that to one side, but your physical body NEVER forgets and it will do it again to remind you every so often.

So, my friend, take a quiet Christmas, cut down on the egg nog etc sleep when your body wants it and stick to the bench with a nice kit.

If you do feel up to it then even join in with our 12 day christmas build challenge. Nothing too complex and easy to do is a sure fire way to get a badge and you do have 12 days so with the right kit you really have plenty of time!

You might be wise to get a medic alert dogtag with the details of your complaint etched and any medication you are now on. It will help if problems arise and the medics have to be called and you can't talk to them. they will see the tag and know that it has the details you need. I wear one.

Something like this is excellent. Don't be afraid to wear one. It can save your life!

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Personalised-Medical-Alert-Dog-Tag-With-Chain/292603903093?hash=item44208d3c75:m:m2JQEQWxcda6XMYuJ9L0aPg

So, take it easy, lower the stress by building something and put your feet up, stick to the medication like glue and don't take the rat poison... Asprin is just fine!

A very small medicinal whiskey once a week will help!

Ya, sorry for your troubles. Hang in there bud. Modeling is a great way to kill time just chilling and not stressing out, or bending over for heavy things. Just chasing parts across the room when they pop out of the tweezers. Get well soon.

Been gone a week
Posted by Don Stauffer on Thursday, December 19, 2019 4:41 PM

Hi guys- been gone a week.  Had a heart attack, and was in the hospital.  Feeling good today as long as I take it easy. Had to start dialasys too- was not looking forward to that. It will take about 12 hours out of my week.  I'm looking at it as taking a part time job.  That is less than half-time a regular job, so I am sure I'll get some modeling done.

In fact, because of a stint emplacement, I have to refrain from bending over, or picking up heavy things, so I cannot do cleanup on shop next week.  So I will be working on a model in my spare time :-)
