Tenchimuyo81,

Not that I'm taking sides but, After reading your first post I was thinking along the same lines as Mkish. Your comments seemed to indicate that you were bragging about your talents. After your second post it would appear that this is NOT the case. Sometimes it can be easy to misinterpret something a person will say. Thanks for clearing that up.

Ummm, thanx for the compliment, but, it's not called for! The only reason I have so few tools is lack of money! Believe me, it ain't fun! I would kill for a nice dremel, and an airbrush!

No, just one of the bays in my three car garage that will not hold a car. My fellow clubs members come over once in awhile and drool. Lots of old kits - Hawk, Aurora, Esci, Entex, etc.

You mean that that is MINIMAL tools? Heck, I don't even use THAT many tools! I don't use spray paint, or CA glue, the only smoothing system I have is sandpaper, and the only filler I have is white glue! And, my models come out looking great anyway! And, I've never used a single detail kit!

Been behind on mine...but hey...we can't have everyone finish. It wouldn't be right. Smile [:)]

At the current stage I'm at, it would fit nicely into my collection of unfinished models. Smile [:)]

Regarding the tool list, I know it's been discusses a bit now and I think everyone is in agreement to drop the tool list. Except for a few things, mostly everything is readily available and inexpensive. We'll probably get more enjoyment and more participation if we're not worrying about the tools we're using.

The timeframe - well that's probably something that we should decide upon on a per kit basis. If it's an easier kit, then maybe a month or possibly less would be fine. If the kit is really hard, then maybe two months.

Aftermarket parts, etc. - maybe we should make this optional. If we allow airbrushes, then why not? With the time that's invested, might as well be flexible. I think it would be interesting to read the different approaches that would be taken and who would choose aftermarket parts and why and for what parts.

As far as CBP's are concerned, if people want to run something different, I think that would be good. If a couple people want to start building planes together, go for it. Maybe some will do armor or whatever. I mean I like this CBP that we've got going, the F-18 and the proposed Ferrari coming up (?). However, I'm thinking that if a bunch of people were discussing a particular kit and a couple of people were interested, then make it into a CBP and set your own timeframe, etc. (Does this make sense?)

So I guess it comes down to this. For a CBP, we just decide on the subject/kit and timeframe .... and just have fun and post pictures of your work. Smile [:)]

I think we've learned a lot from the first CBP.

I'll need extra time too guys... Big shows coming up and customers are needing lots of stuff done, so my F-18 took a back seat (figurely only). Still, after what I've seen of this kit, I'm not recommending it to anyone.. Looks really nice in the box, on the sprues, but the fit is quite attrocious! I need my Milliput..!!!!!

'Loose' is a good thing...

I expect I won't get more time until the weekend to finish mine. I'm looking forward to a change of venue also. I've never built a figure either and to be honest, they're not really all that common around here (at least what I've seen). Someday, I would like to try one of them Gundam robot thing guys though...

Great to hear that things are not written in stone. I need at least another week beyond 03/07 to finish! Blush [:I]

I like that ... loose agreement ... yes, that's the ticket ... things always seem to work better with a loose agreement rather than something written in stone.

Perhaps your hands shake at the thought of doing something other than an a/c ... and mine ... well, if and when we do a figure ... and I think we should at some point ... well, just let me leave it at this ... the one and only time I did a figure ... it didn't make it to the display case ... in fact, I am not sure it is still around here ... maybe over there in the bottow drawer of the file cabinet ... nope not there ... must have tossed it ... it was really that bad ... but, I am game to try again. It's all good !

Nope!

You did not miss speak, I'm just a perpetual wise guyBig Smile [:D]. I think we had more of a loose agreement, if there is such a thing? I'm pretty sure we should do something completely different than aviation though. I can't believe I just said that.

Hello TomM. ... Smile [:)]

Please allow me to extend an "unofficial" welcome to the first Community Building Project ...

This CBP is alas in the final days of construction ... as you have read, by agreement, construction of the first CBP kit ... a 1/48 scale F/A-18 HORNET a/c ends on 7, March, 2003.

Hope you will keep checking this topic in the FSM community forum ... we would welcome your input as to the next CBP or the one after that ... you can join at anytime. I think we have discussed building a Ferrari automotive kit ... but, I do not think this has been "written in stone" ... you may have noticed the members of the CBP try real hard to avoid writing anything in stone. Wink [;)]

Anyway ... great to see another scale model builder showing interest in the CBP !!! Big Smile [:D]

Panzerknacker,

I am maintaining a web page of pictures that any participants send me of their progress, and hopefully pictures from everyone of their finished projects, if everyone has the ability to create or scan photos.

The page is at http://www.safeplace.net/darienk/cbp.html

You can mail me at darienk@safeplace.net

Welcome aboard Panzerknacker,

Glad to have you here. We officialy started on 2/7/03. If I recall correctly, we set the ending date for 30 days. So you have to 3/7/03, just think what you can do with all that extra time. Be sure to keep everyone posted in the F-18 CBP thread.

Goodluck

Well, I'm gonna jump in a bit late here and see what I can get done in eight days. Maybe I'll surprise myself... and maybe I'll take a few days off of school ;) I seem to remember an Italeri F-18 laying around in my pile somewhere...

Prost!

Hello all,

Here's a thought. When we start posting pictures of our models they will be available for all the world to see. Other than my family and people who visit the house, not many eyes have seen my work. Now it will be on display for everyone to see and judge. That's very nerve racking. This should be fun.

I got the Testors F-18 from Walmart last night (last one on the shelf). Looks like it can be in either the F-18A (single seat) or F-18B (dual seat) configuration. I think I'll go with the F-18B version since there are Canadian decals in the kit for this configuration! (I'm such a proud Canadian).

I've also considered building an F-18 with a 'custom' paint job. I don't expect that's against the rules, but would anybody disagree?

Won my F-18 on e-Bay, so I'm only a couple of days away from starting the thing! My kit is the 1/48 Italeri offering of the F-18E. Don't know if it's any good, but I have it..!

By the way, Revell also proposes a F-18E at that scale... Might be worth investigating...

What ever you do stay away from the AMT kit. . .the smell from the box should keep you away, but I had a cold that day. . .it is one stinker of a kit. It is more like a 1/40th scale kit than 1/48.

Don
I know it's only rock and roll, but I like it.

Yeah, my thread took on more life than I ever could have imagined, Darren. I'm still waiting for more than just Tamiya to tell us they were there. There's 10 other manufacturers with invitations so far.

I've noticed that the only F/A 18C kit getting mention is the Revell- Monogram one. While time does not permit me to participate in this particular CBP, I'd like to at least give participants a couple of options in the way of Hornets kits if the Revell Monogram one isn't readily available.

I believe Italeri's 1/48 C Hornet is still out there, it has Swiss air force markings, so that gives you a bit of option over American Hornets if you want it (I've also heard it contains Spanish and Finn markings, but I can only say it has Swiss for certain).

This kit may also be out under the Testor label as well as the two companies are affiliated. It really depends what area you live in I guess, Testor labeled kits are pretty rare in my area but Italeri labeled ones are quite plentiful.

Hope that helps give a couple more options to participants in this one
