Skids look great; good call on making them out of metal.  Built the kit as a teenager and ended up breaking the skid trying to sit it on a shelf.  Great progress, I've got the kit in my stash and hope to build it again using some of your techniques!!  Keep up the great work!!

Dude that gear looks awesome!! I've been peeking in on this build from time to time and am taking notes. Eventually I'd like to build an H model with the M60 external mounts. Gets me thinkin about the good ol days......................

I noticed that the plastic gear is very flexible and should be replaced like your brass one which by the way looks very good. This one I'm building is not for me but If I ever get around to build one for myself, I would definitively swap out the gear.

Thank you . i hope to have the skid finished next week . Weather here turned very nice . I will be outside this weekend

Rick

Thanks, but yours looks like is looking good too. I was surprised how simple and well detailed this 1969 mold is right out of the box. I'm building this for someone and wants it OOB but there are tons of scratch building possibilities with this big beast. You have to play with the window fit till they look right. One of the nose windows has a really lousy fit yet the other one fits like a glove. As far as the seams go, it's easier and better if the fuselage is joined in small sections and that can only be done using the Plast-I-Weld with Touch N Flow applicator. I just lightly sanded the small plastic ridge along the seam and polished it a little. It just took a few minutes. The decals are of excellent quality requiring no trimming of the clear carrier film and respond well to Solvaset. Just make certain you gloss up the surface for the decals, specially the US  Army one along the tail that can silver in between the letters.

My camera is a Sony Cyber Shot 4.1 that the wife got me as a present about 10 years ago. It's very simple and has a 6X zoom. I'm quite happy with this one.

Man that is prefect . I wished mine look that good

My windows did not fit so good . Maybe my lack of experience.

I'm learning alot and having a blast .

Plastic junkie what camera are you  using ? great photo for close up

I want a new camera for better photo

Also my seams was a nightmare . I use testor black bottle . I  then sanded seams and used filler . Sanded the filler down . Then sprayed 123 primer on to paper , then brushed primer over seam. Then blocked sanded primer tell smooth

I just pick up some tamyia ex thin glue . I think it will help

Don't mean to hijack your thread but I'm doing the same kit and I used Plast-I-Weld with the Touch and Flow applicator on the seams. This product melts the plastic and when squeezed, produces a small ridge of melted plastic that takes care of any gaps and is sanded smooth when cured making a solid join.

The seams are completely filled in with the melted plastic and sanded smooth. Actually very little sanding was required.

I'm doing the 1st Air Cav bird and as you can see in the close up, no seam is visible at all. This gluing method is fantastic.

I'll attest to the good customer service Revell have.  They sent me replacement roof windows for the 1/48 Huey Hog I've got and also the older monogram version decals, no questions asked, didn't even ask for any money for the decals or proof I own the kit.

Although I think it depends on which Revell you deal with, because I think Revell USA is better for having parts in stock than RoG, or the other way around.  I know I made an enquiry about the decals (the ones with the normal marines markings, not the ones for the red tailed Huey Hog) and one or the other told me to contact the other, probably RoG told me to contact Revell USA as they own what used to be Monogram (at least that's how I understand it).

Revell customer service seems way better than Italeri, I tried to blag some replacement 1/48 UH-1 roof windows for the ESCI kit I built (this was before I found out Fairy Power Spray works a treat for removing Tamiya clear green), and couldn't get anywhere with them, language barriers and the fact they wouldn't  take anything other than a credit card payment were the main issues.

Airfix UK are slightly better than Italeri, but not as good as Revell imo.  I wanted to get the RAF SAR decals from their Sea King kit (the yellow one) and whilst they supplied them they wanted a cheque for £5 or for me to call them and give my card details (presumably credit, not debit card) over the phone.  Talk about operating in the stone age!!

They won't email until the parts ship.

I requested a canopy and only got an email confirming my request. About 3 weeks later my canopy was in the mailbox.

That has happened to me multiple times with other kits no matter how careful you are taking the parts out. Sometimes it just happens! I have wound up many times stretching sprue and carving to make a replacement for the part that flew into oblivion

BTW,  I'm doing the same Huey and noticed that a couple of the windows fit like a glove, and a couple other don't. Everything else has a very nice fit and the details are quite nice OOB even though it's a 1969 mold. I'm just about to put paint on mime.
