Really outstanding for effort and innovative imagination! BRAVO!!

I hate to say it, but a smaller-scale plane would have been better in scale with regard to that tree. A mustang or 109 would have been more in scale.

That doesn't take away my admiration for your imaginative, beautiful dio though!

Gorgeous work Rene. In a way i can see what Manny is saying about the tree. Its difficult for it to portray the scale of the plane. What about adding a figgie under the tree with his mouth wide open and his hands to his head in Shock/ Awe/ Amazement.

Hello again,

well I just finished the work on this Dio, and as promised here are some more pictures of the entire Dio.

Once again, the model is a Academy Lockheed Ventura PV-1, scale is 1:72, the aircraft was build with some extra details I scratch build the entire inner cockpit and the upper turret as well. The cowling flaps were added and some other small alterations. The kit itself is pretty good, no real problems. The Dio base is all scratch build, the large tree was build from a bundle of steel wires, which were later covered with some tissue and glue. the smaller branches came from modelrailroad accesoires and the the leaves were simply added with some "spray-on-glue" The water is 2-components resin All together nothing special just straight forward and easy to do. Of course the aircraft is being suspended on one of the branches which runs into a brass tube which is fixed  inside the port wing.

Those fabulous props are from propblur, simple and a very effective way to display turning props, something I can only recommend.

So here are a few more pics, have fun and let me know if you want to know something else.

The size itself wasn't the issue; it just seems that the trunk and branches are all about the same size/diameter...the branches don't get progressively smaller/tappered as they should as they grow out, giving the illusion, to me, that the tree wasn't 45 feet tall as you stated...just an observation...and the "foilage" on the ground seems a little large in scale as well...no biggie; cool dio and idea...

Nice work and a novel idea... The only issue I have is the size of the base.. The aircraft doesn't have much "Earth" under it...

Hi there,

first of all, thanks a lot for all your kind words concerning my little Dio. And because some of you asked about a few things, well here are the informations you are looking for

The aircraft is held by a steel wire (as you have already guessed) which comes out of the tree, which is made of steel wires some tissue and glue. The small branches are railroad model accesories. The steel wire runs into a brass tub which is fixed inside the port wing of the Ventur All together pretty simple, nothing special at  all!

Those fantastic propellors are from prop blur, simple and veeeeeeery effective and cheap too!!!

Here is the link for the company: http://www.propblur.com/

The idea to position the rudder and elevators on the aircraft is something Iwill consider, maybe I will do that , thanks for that!

Concerning the dimension iof the tree, well I don't  think it is too large at all, in this scale the tree is only about 45ft/15m high which is definitely not very large, at least I got some treesin my garden which are much higher than that.

I will post a few new pictures somewhat later of course, so that you can see how the whole thing looks when finished.

Thanks again

Cool idea...ditto on the control surfaces...the tree looks a little large in scale for the plane...

Very nicely done. One thing you might consider in the future if you do more of these is to adjust the control surfaces to match the banking of the plane. As with the other guys, tell us more about the props.

wow that is an awsome job looks great .

looking at the pic myself if you look at the wing tip looks like a metal bar of some type is going into it and into the tree. me i would assume it has to be real stiff and runs the cross lenght of the plane and down the tree into the base other wise i think the wing would snap right off.

now hopefully we find out the method cause i want to see if i am right lol

Thumbs Up [tup]Great work....good sense of motion...prop blur is right on. Good to see a plane in its natural habit. What water did you use? Can't wait to see more pics!!

Very nice! Don't see to may plane dio's, let alone inflight one's.

Have you thought about putting an outrigger canoe with a couple of natives in the water? I think that would look pretty cool.

I've seen a similar dio with a stuka circling a T/34 and the guy ran a coat hanger wire thru the tree and into the wing tip. Was this the same technique?

That is a clever use of the tree as a stand. Very innovative. You must tell us where you get those wonderful "in flight" propellors. Thank you for the postings, all the work has been outstanding.

That pilot... is insane! But I love the concept- and great job on putting it together, I think with some more leaves and groundwork this will look awesome!

yeah, what exactly did you do to support the weight of the plane? Looking real nice .

Hi there,

I'm currently working on another small Dio.. I have startedto build this one 3 days ago still not finished, the tree needs some leaves and some other details are still missing too!

The diea for this came some weeks ago when I finished my "Corsair"Dio. I wanted to build another "inflight" dio. I finally settled  for a Lockheed  Vetura for this scene, hope you like it, even so it still needs some more work.

Any comments or critiques are welcome.

Have fun
