French POW final update
Posted by SteveM on Sunday, March 22, 2009 10:22 AM

Hi all,

I want to thank everyone, who followed my dio thread, for their massive encouragement. Unfortunately, I have decided to leave the hobby. Temporarily, or permanently- I do not know at this point. However, I have sold a great deal of my model inventory already. I will, most likely, auction off the figures and barn built for this dio on eBay. What's left of my huge dio-building stock will be sold off at the Austin Scale Modelers show in September.

Can't really explain why I'm leaving this wonderful hobby, other than the "feel" for it simply evaporated. No big deal, eh?

Again, a very sincere "thank you" to all who followed, commented, advised, praised, and critiqued in this thread... and in all of my dio builds and WIPs. The FSM forum has truly been a world of solace for me, and I will still peek in here frequently. Maybe something will spark the interest again, and I will curse myself for liquidating. Until that point, this is the sensible move for me.

Steve

Steve, We'll miss you and your builds. It may come back. I had a 20 year break and sorted out a load of stuff and now I enjoy it more than ever. As long as you enjoy whatever it is that you do, then that's what counts.

Rethink getting rid of yer stuff... I took a 10-year break and was glad I didn't sh*tcan my kits and spares boxes... REALLY glad... I carted them around through three PCS's and two civilian moves too...

When the bug bit me again, I still had the wherewithall to scratch the itch...

OK, you are an artiste and may be a little crazy as many artists can be. Just don't cut off your ear to impress any women!  Good-bye for now, I hope you find your way back soon. Thanks for sharing your work with us.

Welll, this is truly one of the saddest anouncements I've ever seen here. Honestly. Man, I wish you could find out what it is that made you lose interest? I can't believe someone with your talent could just lose the desire for it?

Except maybe that it drove you to such a seeking-of-perfection that that pressure made you lose the enjoyment? Your work was that good, that I could see how it might?

Man, I would suggest putting your stuff aside for a year--especially thatincredible French Barn--and don't sell it. It would be a crime to let some schlub acquire that and ruin it's completion!

I'm sad now.....Boohoo [BH]

Also, please---stop smoking! Yuck [yuck].........Wink [;)]

Best of luck to you Steve. Your work will continue to inspire in your absence! Bow [bow]

Steve I concur, DON'T get rid of that barn! Put it on a shelf were you and others can see it. I'm sure their positive feedback on this piece of art will help you get the itch again.

Hope to see you back sooner than later my friend.

I think that you're just sad that Battlestar Galactica has ended and you didn't care for the ending.  You'll be ok, just give it time.

Boohoo [BH] Well, if it doesn't make you happy, it's not worth it. I'd hate to see you sell it all. But you got to do what you got to do. Will surely miss your updates on this site. Here's to your continued pursuits Make a Toast [#toast]

Steve,

As many have already said before me, you are truly a talented and gifted artist.  This may sound trite by now (I hope not however), but your work has definitely inspired me...and apparently many others as well.  You and your updates will be sorely missed here on the Forums.

I won't try to talk you out of your decision; as John Wayne once said, "A man's gota do what a man's gota do. "  With that being said, whatever you decide, best wishes to you!  Make a Toast [#toast]

Ditto here: Don't give up the ship, uh barn!Smile [:)] Put it safe somewhere where it remains dust-free and little multi-legged critters can't use it for a shelter and enjoy some other hobbies you might have. Learn a few new skills on the drums, perhaps. (Even Neil Peart keeps trying new ways to approach playing the drums.) If you like meteorology or astronomy, get out and look up at the sky. Or start a new vegetable garden!

When the time comes again that you feel like cutting some plastic (I took a 20-year break from modeling!), start by building something simple and out-of-the-box before bringing the barn out of safekeeping. In the meantime, we'll all miss you...
