Reasoned and cnq:

Excellent work. gents.  I think anyone who's posted a build in this forum has proven that with a bit of patience and elbow grease, you can end uo with some pretty good results on the Revell / Monogram offerings.

the Baron, docidle and texgunner:

Thank you very much for your kind words.  The Lightning was a tough build.  It's definitely a 3 footer.  I replaced the 5 piece kit canopy with a Squadron vacuform canopy.  The seams (all of them!) were a bear with some of them being 1/8"..  That's pretty substantial on a 1/48 kit.  It would never be a show winner but the end result, based on the amount of work that went into the repairs, was worth it.

Great looking models everyone! CNQ, I have one of those 1:72 Arado 555 that someone gave to me as a present. It  is great to see a couple renditions of that aircraft, I've got a few good ideas now. Thanks.

Thanks Reasoned, Duke, murph.

Duke, the Arado kit is very nice to work with. I did not encounter any issues when working on it.

Dang cnq!! That's quite the Luftwaffe collection you've got there! I forgot that Revell did a 72nd scale Komet. Looks great!

Fly-n-hi : Those 15's look awesome as well! When I was in Iraq it was comforting to see these things flying high!!

My 10 yr old son built his first "glue together" kie tover the weekend which turned out to be a Revellogram 1/48 A6M5 Zero. Not too long ago he tried his hand at a Star Wars Snap Tite kit which as many of you know is a pre painted kit. He wanted to try his hand at painting and gluing. My wife and I were "cakehole" over elbow trying to get everything ready for his big birthday party where everybody in the world comes to it and then afterwards there's usually 3-4 screaming kids in your house...............overnight!!! He wanted me to give him a hand in the middle of us getting ready for the party and had told him that he had chose the wrong time for that , BUT did tell him that I'd be glad to help him build (and use daddy's glue and some paint)  the next day when all the chaos and "hustle and bustle" had died down. I shoulda known something was going on when it got quiet for a couple of hours from him. He knows he can't use the glue or the paint without me there, sooo............................................He busted out the dark green , red and black sharpies and some clear packing tape and went to work!!!  About two hours later he comes bee bopping up to me with it..............done!  Now folks the first thing that comes to mind when I think of sharpies and a model are not thoughts that I can share here but.............he didn't do bad with what he had either.

Here's a pic of Joseph's Zero . Encouragement and a few pointers are more than welcome for him guys! Thanks in advance, Joe

I did tell him that we were buying two kits and some "rattle can" spray paint so I can teach him model bulding using the very basics with me building one along side of him.

HA! Joe, I love it!  I've got a 9yr old that would do the same.  Tell him great job of weathering (make sure he knows that's not from the sky Big Smile.  I gotta say, there were probably some Zeros flying by the end of the war held together with less than packing tape!  How fun, great post.

I like his improvisational skills! He belongs in the "If it is not unauthorized- it is allowed" school of thought. He's off to a great start. Perhaps you may want to get him a few Pegasus kits for when no parents are around. We all know that teh build bug can bite at anytime...

Hey, Joe, tell him that he's already learned a very important lesson, and having learned it,  he'll go far as a modeler--he let nothing get in the way of finishing that Zero!

Now get him a Wildcat as his next build, to give him further encouragement.

Mustang, I gotta say the coloring with the dark green sure looks very realistic! That is an amazing job. Your boy shows a tremendous amount of promise and his determination to finish a model with whatever is handy is spectacular.  Way to go and keep encouraging him!

Thanks for the encouragement everybody! I printed this whole page off last night and let him read through all of it while he was laying in bed last night just before "lights out". He had a smile on his face the whole time he was reading. The Baron had it almost right with the next model. It seems it's gonna be a Hellcat!! lol

Now you can take that page and put it in a little book or frame it and put it on his wall. I'm sure he'd love to see it there. You are an excellent Dad! I for one, am looking forward to seeing his Hellcat.
