Awesome!  Congrats on a beautiful build.  What a fantastic tribute to all those brave men, to include you Grandfather.  You should put it in a diorama.  Interestingly, I built my Grandfather's B-17F a half dozen years ago and I found it very fullfilling as well.  It unfortunately go damaged beyond repair so I'm going to have another crack at it eventually.  I was fortunate enough have extra nose art decals made.....

Thanks for sharing...

Joe

I second all the praise for this most excellent build! To me some of the pictures look like the real deal.

Beautiful Model! Great painting and masking. Those markings and nose art look better than any decals would.

You must be a really young guy! My wifes dad flew in the war!

Thats a really nice model, probably the best big Liberator I remember seeing.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

That's a sweet looking build. I have a lot of interest in Norfolk based B-24's. Really nice to see a Horsham based aircraft. I grew up in Norwich so know the airfield well. And my dad, who was born in early 1938, could recall seeing the 24's from Horsham flying over the city.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Oooooh she's a gorgeous beauty!  Excellent job on the finish and the markings.  Your dad is going to beam with pride when he sees your model.

It looks like, on the B&W picture, there's a different color to the outline around the map of the U.S.  Have you been able to verify what color that outline is?

Again, stellar job on the kit!  Your dad's going to love it.

Revell 1/48 B-24H "Final Approach"
Posted by 101stAirborne on Friday, August 8, 2014 1:58 PM

Hi everyone!

My great grandpas brother Jack flew a B-24 H known as "Final Approach" for  his first 10 missions in France in 1944. My dad commissioned me to build a 1/48 scale model of his B-24. Luckily there were a lot of reference photos of it online. here are some pictures of the actual plane.

In this picture a different B-24 is behind them

Here is a picture of Jack in the cockpit

I used the old Revell B-24J model kit and did a few modifications to make it an H version of the B-24. Since there are no decals for this particular B-24 I had to make masks of the nose art, 7V, Q, and white circle with a black K. The Yellow serial number is a dry transfer from Woodland Scenics. I painted it with Model Master Acrylics and weathered it with Vallejo pigments.

Thanks for looking all comments welcome!
