Messerschmitt Bf109 GB Feeler--Official GB thread now up
Posted by mustang1989 on Friday, August 29, 2014 3:32 AM

I was chatting around with a small number of folks in the last couple of months about the possibility of hosting another Group Build and the positive feed back was such that it prompted me to throw out a feeler for a GB starting on January 1st of 2015.  I'd like to take the opportunity to thank all of you who contributed to the success of the Butcher Bird Group Build which is now in its final stages and thus has lead me to host another possible Group Build on one of the worlds most well known aircraft, the Messerschmitt Bf109. The last 109 GB here was started three years ago with pzl66 hosting and was where I got my start  at FSM. I've had a complete blast ever since getting back into modeling this time around with a great group of people.

The Group Build will be scheduled to last for one year and the rules, which will be formally posted in January, are laid back and simple with the biggest rule being that the particiapants are to be encouraging and have fun.

Any Bf109 variant of any scale can be entered to include sections of 109's, i.e. Nose/engine sections and Instrument panels as there are a couple of model kits devoted to these sections. Crossovers are invited to join in as are started builds (you guys know the deal-limit it to fuselage halves put together).

With that, let me hear your thoughts on this and if enough are interested we'll come up with a badge from somewhere and get this thing in the works.

MMMM, going to have to think about this one.

Ye, right who am I kidding. I missed the past 109 GB's. Interesting that you mention sections of 109 can be included. I just might have a kit that will fit that. Whistling

Mustang

You can put me down for the Eduard (OK Academy) 109 E, I think its the Balkan edition in 1/32 if this takes off. As I'll be down to one GB by then

Although catching a TON of flak from builders, I'm going to bring this bad boy to the table.

Hey mate, I'm still in as your co-host. My plan was to build Hasegawa's big G-6 in JG300 markings, but after having a close look at that Eduard Royal Class, I'm not too sure about that anymore... I hope I can squeeze in both, but I'm not that sure about that 'cause there's lots of AM stuff in my drawer for that Hasegawa bird...

Not quite committed whole hog just yet but, you can mark me down as heavily tentative.

I like the idea of this one, and I have lots of kits to choose from.  But I can't quite commit yet since I have a pretty big GB load already.  I'll have to play the "wait and see" game for this one.

Well, might as well say what I am building. I will be doing my first ever 1/32nd build for this, hasegawa Bf 109F-4. The kit comes with markings for 4 aircraft flown by Hans-Joachim Marseille, I will probably do the aircraft he was flying in early Sept 42.

But i will be starting off with this little gem which arrived last week.

I have a Tamiya E model 1/48 that I can build and by the time this starts things will be slowing for me so I would love to make this GB my first. And it will give me a chance to learn a great deal from all the experienced builders as well.

Eagle, you mean this one. Big Smile

Phil, o don't worry, I have enough 72nd kits to last me a life time. I have been gathering a select number of 32nd aircraft kits for a few years now, just been waiting for the chance to build one.

Brandon, you can't go far wrong selecting one of Mustang's GB for your first. If only half of the guys from the 190 GB show up, it's going to be another cracker.

That's the one!!!!!!!!!!  That is going to be one very cool build!  Are you going to do the engines spinner to match Hans-Joachim Marseille plane or do it like it is on the box?

I am going to do the spinner as it is on the box, just not sure if I will go for a more intricate white spiral or keep it simple.

LOL, I have ben looking at a few G-6 spinners. I am currently thinking about doing either Hartmann's or Barkhorn's, would be nice to do one from a known aircraft.

Brandon and Bruce: Lookin' forward to it. A GB is a great way to improve skills. I came to this forum knowing just enough to be dangerous and still am to some extent but I've learned alot of things along the way.
