AWESOME job, Rob, this is one of those kits where you deserve a medal for finishing it. As you said, there are many issues. I finally finished mine after it being in stash for years. I love your detailing

Hello all

I've got the painting done and the insignia on. I'm probably going to apply a fuselage number, still deciding which one. I had major issues with decals. I started with the upper wing crosses and one of the swastikas. The crosses crinkled like crazy after applying the decal solvent and never really improved, same as the swastika. I eventually had to remove them, and of course damaging the paint requiring a large patch up job. I eventually located some Montex masks on e-bay for a FW-190 D, and used those with great effect. I resorted to the fuselage decals as the Montex ones were too wide and I had no desire to widen the yellow stripe. Luckily these went on perfectly, well almost.

Thanks for the great comments. To say it was ill fitting is an understatement. One side of the fuselage was remarkably different than the other side in length, and the left wing was also longer, about 2-3 mm. Everything is askew, especially in the nose. I had to do lots of fiddling to get the guns lined up with the slots on the cowl, and have somewhat disguised the lack of alignment by adding plastic here and there to try to get some parts lined up, but it is easily seen. Oh well, I just have to accept it and keep smiling. As long as you only look at it from the side, you won't notice it. This would fail miserably at even the crappiest model contest with partially blind judges.

You have taken a mediocre ill fitting kit and have elevated its quality to an incredible super detailed product. Now more than ever you have to stay motivated as you are on a roll.

With Luftwaffe aircraft internals,  blue was the designated color for oxygen equipment.

Got the top cowling part on, more piping and small details. I also detailed the internal aspect of the gun bay cowling. Landing gear is next.

Got the right side cowling on and the cowling ring, but things are really messed up. There was some discrepancy with the fuselage lengths, and with me messing around with modifications, the front end is askew. When the top panel is mounted, it is somewhat rotated, and the MG's don't come close to fitting into the wells. I'm going to have to add some plastic and reposition this part, hopefully it will not look too crooked- oh well, not much I can do about it now, other than leave it off. I replaced the barrels with Aber barrels.

Here is a pic of the engine mostly wired up-forgot to add it before.

Added the exhausts- they were originally all molded together. I separated the individual stacks, hollowed out the ends. I thought this would be easier than trying to create them from scratch. These will be covered by the cowling panel anyways.

Love the interior detail shown in OP, 5th shot down. What are the blue balls? I've seen them before and always wondered what they are.

Its been awhile since I posted. I've been struggling with this build, only chipping away at it. Generally the fit is poor. Each fuselage side was of different lengths, and the wing placement was not equal either- one side was longer than the other. I had to do lots of fiddling and adding plastic to make up the differences. Slowly but surely its coming along.

Thanks for the good comments! It is the reboxed Airfix kit. Bought it in a bag for $20 about 3 years ago at a model show. Detail is quite sparse as compared to the newer 1/24 offerings, and part fit is very poor overall- I have only put together a few parts so far, but almost everything required  some effort to get it to fit properly. I left off part of the engine to compensate for the 5 mm excess in length causing the fan to protrude from the cowl, and I don't look forward to doing the wheel wells or the wings- there will be tons of grinding and adding styrene to get them together.

Holy Cow!! That all looks terrific! I didn't realize that MPC made a 1/24 scale kit of anything.

I presume that is an AIRFIX kit reboxed..........I have a recently purchased 1984 vintage MPS 1/24 Bf 109E reboxed AIRFIX kit awaiting assembly-still in factory wrapping; can almost smell that 1980s smog.

That FW 190 build is looking nice !
