No problem Toshi. I had these questions one time too and somebody else helped me like I am you. Just pass it down to the next guy bud. That's one of the reasons we are all here.Wink

I almost forgot the other half of that tutorial Toshi. After you get both ends of your antenna glued on the antenna its gonna sag This is remedied in a few different ways. One of which I learned by is to light a match and after a few seconds of it burning to blow it out. With the blown out match still hot, hold it under the sagging "antenna" at about the mid point being careful not to get to close. You've gotta be quick but in the split second that you have the match under the antenna it's gonna start to sag even more. This is when you quickly pull the match out from under then antenna. When you do that the antenna will snap taught! You'll have yourself the perfect aerial antenna at that point.

the Baron
I like to use chalks for weathering, too.  Black for gunfire stains, and combinations of black, browns and reds, and even white, for exhaust stains.  Photo references are a big help.

That's a great point Baron. To further supplement this I read an article not long ago and I used it on my Corsair. I aint gonna jack your thread with pics of that so I'll PM you that stuff but here's the article. This guy uses paint but pastels work the same way and if you goof it up you can always just wipe it off and start over unlike paint.

The results.............

I've been using clear styrene for stretching sprue into aerials, because I've been able to cheat (in some cases) and not apply any paint.  When stretched very thinly, it looks like bare steel wire.

I like to use chalks for weathering, too.  Black for gunfire stains, and combinations of black, browns and reds, and even white, for exhaust stains.  Photo references are a big help.

You might even want to get some small containers and grind up batches of chalks ahead of time.  I've got some small single-serving jelly jars that I use for things like that.

Toshi

To reiterate, ground up black pastel w/sandpaper, use worn out brush.  Start with the end of the wing.  Got it!  Thank you for this tip, you're the man Mustang1989!

I have a question?  How do you do the radio wire?  What type of material is it?  It always looks real.  Again, thank you for the tip and the read and reply.

No problem Toshi. Glad to be of help. As for stretching sprue , view the following link......

To BrandonK,

Honestly, when I'm building a model kit, I just end up loosing time.  I'll start at 9:00am and keep working until Mrs. Toshi comes home from work at 4:00pm.  I'm like wow, it's 4:00pm already?  Then some chores, dinner, and I'm right back at it.  Then the same thing happen again, I'll work until I glance at the clock and tell myself; "I better clean up, it's 1:30am!  LOL!  Thanks for visiting this thread, I really look forward to forum members and myself having discussions.

Toshi,

Your ability to knock these out so quickly and still make them look darn good is just amazing. Great job and a wonderful old kit.

Man Toshi! You can really put out quite the build in almost no time! Your birdie looks fantastic. I will offer you a friendly suggestion about soot from the gun barrels. There's a ton of different ways to do it but one that I find that works best for me is the usage of ground up black pastel. To get the powder forum of pastel just rub the pastel on some coarse grit sandpaper until you have a fine black powder. Then after all your clear coats have been put on and as a very last step , use a well worn paint brush to dry brush the pastel onto your model in the area you want fading the effect as you work to the rear on the wing. You'll like what you end up with.Wink Just don't spray any clear coats over it as the effect will disappear.

Here's an example I of that method on the ejector chutes on my Fw190 D-9. Notice how the effect is subtle and fades as it goes rearward.

To quote the Rocketeer, " I LIKE IT!!!"  Amazing that you can bang one out that quick with quality work, Toshi!  I did this kit and the bubbletop for the Monogram Mafia III and enjoyed both of em immensely and did them at the same time.  You ought to chk out that group build and whip up a couple of Monograms.

Ya know, if I could build that fast I think I could wipe out my stash by the time I turn 220!

Again kudos on the great build!!

the Baron, Tamiya Gloss Aluminum.  That sounds very interesting, maybe that will be my next experiment.  To answer your comment in the completion of the P-47, yes, it's done!  LOL!  I have to do a few chores and I'll post it on this thread shortly.

To Jay Jay,

I'm finally using an Iwata specific air regulator that's in line.  It's called a MAC, I hooked it up with a quick disconnect.  It works great now.  That helps me greatly when I AB.  In the past, I did not have any air regulator, I was airbrushing at 58psi.  Isn't that crazy?  Of course I had no idea, I was just enjoying myself with my very first ever, AB, an Iwata.  I was like Ooooo Aaaaa cool.  I've always loved the color silver, I don't know why.  Matter of fact, the Visible Monogram B-17G "Flying Fortress" will be silver as well.

On the box rendition the "Fortress" is OD, the interior is green zinc chromate.  There's no separation artistically between the interior and exterior.  Hence, I'm going with the silver to create a separation in color form.  In actuality, I'm possibly using Master Model Enamel Silver Chrome Trim.  I'll see how I feel about that.  Thank you for everything!

I'm with the others, Toshi, your silver has come out very nicely!

I've been using a gloss aluminium in a rattle can, I can't remember if it's Tamiya (which I think it is) or Model Master.  Though it's labelled a gloss, it dries/cures to a semi-gloss.

I look forward to seeing your next progress.  You've probably got it finished by now!
