Accurate Miniatures B-25C
Posted by jeaton01 on Monday, August 3, 2015 12:45 AM

I have been working on several models at once, lately, trying to clear up a backlog of slow projects.  This one was started maybe 3 years ago and was a challenge.  I was not happy with the kit's nose glass so I adapted the nose glass from a Monogram B-25H kit and that was an adventure.  Everything is very scale and rather fiddly.  Fits were generally good but not always and some alignments could be better defined.  I added ignition wires to the engines and did not use the kit harness, it looked way too heavy to me.  The cowlings were another quest that I do not feel that I really met with complete success.  I bought some resin replacements and they were a bit of an improvement I thought, but not that much.  I was able to get close by increasing the openings on the kit cowls, but after I had them installed it became apparent to me that part of the cowling issue is that there should be a radius on the inside that could only be achieved by filling the inside nose of the cowls and sanding in that curve,  Next time I will do better.

I weathered the model with SNJ aluminum powder and oil paints via the dot filter method, Paynes Grey used for the most part but also some yellows and whites.  I also used Tamiya Smoke for oil and exhaust staining.  I made the decals with an ALPS printer and Corel Draw.

Now on to that Williams Brothers C-46 that has been almost done for more years than I can remember.

Looking at your build you wouldnt think the builder experienced any problems in construction. She's a beauty.

That's a good lookin plane right there! How was that build anyways? I remember seeing those kits when they first came out thinking that they had to be all that................and a bag of party mix.

Mighty nice bit of work, looks like you got the R/M nose glass snuggled in there perfectly. Good job, thanks for the post and photos.

Thanks, everyone, for the nice comments.  Mustang 1989, it is definitely a kit that takes a lot of study and planning.  A lot of the parts are thin and can lose their shape and since there are many sub assemblies, that can lead to problems.  It shouldn't take 3 years to build one but you can't approach it with a sense of hurry.

Damn nice looking B-25 Jeanton.  I plan on doing one of these from the Doolittle Raid as well one day.  Glad to hear about your troubleshooting.  Always a welcome thing to see.  Do you have any pictures of the interior?  And do you have a preference on decal sheets when printing your own??

John, you have one pretty bird there. You have given me inspiration for my next project which will include 16 B-25Bs in 1:350 scale plus a 1:48 AM version.

Thanks, Mike and Shipwreck.

Bvallot, I use Tango Papa decal paper and it has always worked well for me using my ALPS MD-1000 and a Dell 1250C color laser printer (led type system).  I did not take as many wip pictures as usual on this one, but here are a couple of the fuselage interior.
