Completed Donier Do 355 Pheil A-12
Posted by Toshi on Thursday, October 1, 2015 12:49 PM

I've always admired the weathering effects that forum members are able to achieve in there builds.  I'm hoping one day I'll be able to focus my attention to detail in panel highlighting.  So far I'm able to comprehend washes, not to the level of forum members but enough to just fiddle through to make it somewhat exceptable.  You be the judge.

I really enjoyed this build as I am fascinated by unusually built and designed aircraft, like forum members made very clear on this thread, this Do355 if went into full production would have been a formidable foe for the allies, if introduced earlier in the war.  Another would have to be the me262 jet fighters.  Speaking of the Me262, my next build will be a Trumpeter 1:32 Me262 Visible kit.  I'm looking forward to this build.

In my other stash, yes, I'm flnally am assembling a stash.  It is a Tamiya 1/48 Skyraider with Eduard 1/48 Photo Etch Interior.  This should be another exciting build for me.  Until I receive these kits via eBay, here is the completion of the very unique and unusual Do335!

Nice work Toshi. I still think you should try a panel line wash one of these days. It would take your planes up a notch... Joe

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Super nice job Toshi! You did that classic kit proud. The first kits of this aircraft (many, many years ago) were 1/72 versions from Lindberg Models & Frog. I had the Lindberg kit but don't recall it ever getting put together.Once again a smashing job my friend!

Nicely finished Toshi, and nice to see you doing something German. I would also suggest a panel line wash, my own preference is for Flory washes.

That Monogram/Revell Pfeil has raised panel lines so any washes are not going to work out.

Flory Washes are water/clay based and are applied all over the model to let the wash go into the molded recessed details like panel lines, louvers, screens etc and when dry you wipe them off with a damp paper towel and a Q tip for some fine tuning. They are only available from the UK but I highly recommend them. Here's a link:

Right, didn't realise that. I still have not relly mastered weathering with raised lines, not that i come across them much. But would not running a thin line of wash along one side of the raise lines work.

In addition to your other post about how to use Flory, i have also found that for a lighter finish, simply running the wash into the lines with a fine brush works. Just depends on what results you want.

I suppose that if the surface is glossed up then a very fine line wash could be done along the raised detail. In the past I have used a black or dark grey Prismacolor pencil to lightly run it along the raised lines.

Ye, i use a pencil on my last one a few years back. I might just try Flory when ever I get to the net one.
