Old Monogram Spitfire 1/48 Build
Posted by scigs30 on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 8:59 PM

I really like these old kits, they are pretty cheap on ebay.  I used to build these when I was a kid and had a lot of fun doing so.  I know these Monogram kits are out dated with raised panel lines and rivets but that is ok by me.  The build was straight forward out of the box with no modifications. Used good old Testors orange tube glue and did not use any filler on this build since I wanted to keep the details.  I primed with Testors spray primers and all hand brushed with Testors paints free hand.  I am still learning how the brush paint but I must say it is a lot of fun. I sprayed the plane with Testors Glosscote and will apply the original decals followed by Dullcote.

I applied the original kit decals, they were old but with help from decals set and solvent they did ok.  Afer the decals were snugged down I shot Testors Dullcote.  Still have some work to do on the canopy and Ill call her good and onto the next old kit.

Oh wow, you did a great job with the old school Monogram kit.  Great looking camo.

Does this kit have workable landing gear? If so I built the same model many many years ago.

Nice work, the decals went down fine and the camo looks really good.

WowBow Down  You hand brushed this ?  That's a hand brushed paint job ? Oh My Gosh, it looks better than my air brushing for crying out loud.  Amazing !

Thanks for the kind words, really having fun with these old kits.  The landing gear is functional but does require a little force.

I would say mostly old school building. I'm trying to keep everything KISS and fun. Most of the painting is done using the old Testors cheap brushes.  Back in the 70s and 80s I used Testors paint but also used a lot of Floquil paints in the square bottles. I don't remember Model Master paints back then Don't know when Testors started MM.

Looks good, Mate!  Sometimes it's nice to build one of these Oldies without tryin to re-invent the wheel.
