Completed Trumpeter 1:32 Messerschmitt Bf 109-G-6 Early Version

To my fellow forum members,

I started another thread in regards to a re-do or much more correctly a re-paint, of a Tamiya 1:32 Supermarine Spitfire. It got a horrble salt weathering treatment (My fault) and it really bothered me for sometime. I sanded off all the fueselage and wings then went straight into AB the kit. I now await my decals (Grey Shark) of which is the actual kit decals via a seller on eBay.

While waiting for the arrival of my Grey Shark decals, a prior eBay purchase arrived. A Me 109, I've only built American aircraft so my repetoir is minimal at best. This second time around a return to the hobby as the last time I touched a model kit was during my pre-teen years, I've come full circle.

So far at this point I have built a Donier Arrow and a Me 262. I also built a Zero all three for the first time. I find that I really enjoy AB German aircraft! With its varied camoflauge, there's always a surprise and a special technique needed. This time, I'm flabbergasted as I see several different techniques needed to AB the 109. If anyone has any suggestions I could surely use them now. As always, thank you and I hope you all enjoy this build.

Looks like a fun build. Sorry to hear about the Spitfire, but it sounds like you've got it sorted. And hey, that's how we learn, right?

I'm looking forward to watching what you do with this one, as I have a Revell Bf-109 G-6 on the way.

Yes, learning the hard way is sometimes the best scenario. I wish it was the other way around. I'd feel better watching your build first!

It work ok the first time, but not so on the second try. As BrandonK mentioned it's a learning experience.

I've been mentally and physically ill for several days now. No builds or any activity. This is my reason for building non-stop, I'll get into this state of mind of where I'm unaware of anyone nor anything. Not a good place to be.

But now I'm back and feeling a little better. I got to start on the canopy today. Looking outside, it's 10 degrees with a huge snowstorm. Perfect model building weather.

Here is the start.

Here's one way of not loosing PE. Plastic tape clear on both sides. Thumbs up Trumpeter.

Toshi, I'm a new poster here but a long-time lurker, and have followed your builds all along. Sorry to hear of the health issues but I'm glad you have a hobby as engrossing as modeling to immerse yourself into. I know that, for me at least, total focus on a project of some kind is very good medicine.

Great work on that cockpit! Those rudder pedals are something else! And thanks for passing on the clear tape on the etched metal parts ... noted. Yes

Welcome aboard for your first post! I'll look forward to more of our conversations. I would love to see your builds as well. Thank you for your heart felt concerns over my health issues, I have Mrs. Toshi to push me forward. More like a kick in the behind! LOL!

You are so accurate in describing the concentration needed in model building. I so enjoy that as well as the final out come of completion. Yes, the rudder pedals are something else. At first, I was most intimidated by this kit! Step by step I will do my best, I want to thank you for following my builds, you don't know how much that means to me, and thank you for the read and reply.

Toshi, that bird has the same markings as my F-4 that I built. I'm pretty sure it's the same pilot. He was one of the hightest scoring aces for Germany until he was captured. Nice work on a cool aircraft. I'll be watching.

I haven't had any problems using it. I wet the surface then sprinkle the salt and let it dry. I then come back with a toothpick and fine tune the areas by removing some of the salt grains. After the top coat goes on and let to dry I wipe with the direction of the air flow to remove the salt. Any stubburn areas can be softened with a damp Q tip and water. This technique is specially welcomed on Japanese aircraft.

This is the most detailed, intricate and most challenging engine I've ever assembeld. Here is what's been done so far, more work to clean it up is still in progress.

LOL! I noticed that Corsairs, Mustangs, Zeros, and 109s are very popular builds. The 109 is only one of many more to build. 190 next? Who Knows? I must admit, this build is very intimidating. Wow! Thank you for the read and reply.

I AB the whole engine with Tamiya Neutral Gray XF-53, then added Vallejo Gun Metal Gray 70.863. The weathering was done with nothing but pigments. Tamiya Weatherine Master B and C. Soot/Rust/Orange Rust/Gun Metal/Silver.
