I couldnot get any of my heat shrink tube to shrink enough. I ended up just useing some black wire.

Amazing job on that stand, it looks exactly like the one HPH sell.

That came out great! I also really like the homemade stand. I think it gives it an extra bit of interest, and you should be proud of it.

The shrink tube for the water lines were just right and shrunk fine. I had to use some left over small shrink tube from work for the smaller oil lines. The tough part was coming up with a suitable material to simulate the hose clamps. I tried flattening solder to bend around the line, but it just looked like flattened solder. Then I had the idea of using a left over PE tree. I knew that stuff would come in handy someday.

How did you find the shrink tube. I found mine didn't shrink enough and i had to improvious with that.

I finished the painting on the Merlin and applied a little bit of weathering. Next I will install the intake ducting, finish the mount and make up the propeller.

This thing is pretty darn cool. Im lovin' it.

Just went and looked at the HpH website - impressive! They even have a 1/48th XB-70 Valkyrie kit.....WOW!!

Nice to be able to get your own referance pics. Its looking really good.

I know it’s been a while, but I needed to get some more pics of our local Merlin. Every picture I found on the internet failed to show where some lines were going, like the right Magneto and the Oil Pressure Relief Valve lines for example.
Well I took some very specific pictures and was able to finish running the lines. I painted the engine and painted the bolts and lines silver. I still need to paint the ignition conduit, high temp spark plug wires, coolant tank and a few other things before attaching it in the mounts. After that I will run the coolant and oil lines as well as the air intake ducting.
I want your guy’s opinion. Should I add oil stains and weathering or leave it clean?

Coming together really well Steve, looks good.

Nice! A lot of modelers (myself included) will then use your build as reference to detail (much) smaller Mustangs.

I completed the PE for the oil tank. The instructions aren't the best so I kinda had to play it by ear.

Yeah Don, they make the DB-605, BMW-003 and this Packard Merlin. They are in the Czech Republic, but the shipping speed was like I ordered it in the US.

Oops, you got it already. No problem, theu need their name out there more.

Hey, that is interesting!  I love engine models.  I am not familiar with that company- will have to look into those folks.

BTW, just posted some pics of the Hispano Suiza 8A I am working on, in the scratchbuilding forum.

Sure wish Williams Bros would re-release more of their engine models- all they have released so far are ones I have already built.  Sure want to build their Wright.

 

They are based in the Czech Republic and are a real joy to deal with. I had a coiuple of issues (of my own making) when i built the DB 605 last year, and they help me out very fast and without taking any money.

They currently only do 3 engines, all 1/18th. The DB 605 for the Bf 109,

the P-51 Steve is doing and the BMW 003 for the he 162. Sprue Brotehrs had 2 of the kits when i looked last year. HPH also sell the stand you can see in the image above.
