1/72 Airfix Beaufighter (Finished)

Nice, don't see these very often. Is this another of there new tools.

This will be very interesting to follow.

Watching with interest. I've heard good things about the new tool Beaufighter. It certainly looks a far cry from the old one, which I believe is from the mid-50's.

The new "Airfix style" wing spar mounting system (seen in a few other recent models too) looks interesting.

You've got a lot done already, and it's lookin' good! Some time ago I restored an old Frog/Novo model of the Beaufighter - that old dog and the kit you have are worlds apart. There was also the Matchbox model, reissued by Revell - that was poor, too. So good to have Airfix crank out good, state of the art kits nowadays!

I know a  gentleman named Joe Jenkins.  He owns and runs a small airport/bone yard a few miles away. I've been going there with my father for years to look for parts for what ever aircraft he had at the time.   Mr. Jenkins flew beaufighters as well as P-61s in WWII.  Amazing person and stories!

That is very cool!

I had one flight instructer...little, tiny old timer, that flew Sunderlands in WW2. My main instructor flew "Birddogs" in Nam. It was crazy when I found out, he just didn't seem like the type!

Yup...fresh and new! Some details are a bit basic (as is typical for this scale), but the PE makes a huge difference!

Did some painting last night....cockpit work today...

Nice crisp build on the cockpit. Cant help but notice the gaps between the fuselage halves.

Just a dry fit there!

Fit, so far, has been quite good...just a little bit of an extra squeeze at the nose...a tiny step from the belly piece to the fuselage (easily sanded away).

All over this'n like a rat on a cheeto I see Fermis!!

I love the Beaufighter, even have one in the stash. I just don't have it que'd up yet. I'll be following this one.

Well that escalated quickly Nice start on a cool looking plane. Kinda reminds me of the Hs-129 in some ways.

That pit does look nice, some good looking detail in there.

Question: Are you going to add the heater tube? It's a prominent feaure of the interior, though it's not really going to be visible when finished.

True, and the ammunition boxes in the mid section.

I gotta look up Joe Jenkins. Ask him Subaroo what Squadron he was in, maybe the 414?

EDIT: Yep! They were in the same squadron. Imagine that!

My late F-I-Law followed the same profile. He loved his Beau and took a lot of photos of it.

They got their P-61s in very late 1944 in Pontadero, Italy. By then there weren't any enemies in the sky- a lot of fighter bomber missions.

Very excited to see you building up the new Airfix Beaufighter kit. This has been #1 on my wishlist since it came out. I read some very good reviews on it. You've done some fine work on it so far. I'm definitely following along on this one.

I am really diggin the kit/project. Only issue has been at the wing root, and that was just a few very small gaps, not even really worth mentioning...but I did anyway!

Negative. If this was a larger scale, I probably would...but in this size, nah.

Photobucket finally decided to play again. Hadn't been able to upload anything since Friday.

Got this all painted up (including invasion stripes) and decaled.

Great job so far, Fermis. I love the Beaufighter - always thought the bulky engines and stubby front end made it look just plain mean - and you're nailing it. Can't wait to see it in the next phase.

Excellent finish! Did the letters actually have the yellow shadowboxing outline or is that an alignment issue or am I just seeing things?

I have no idea what you are talking about....may be time to hit up the eye doctor!!!

Fer reals...yes, the yellow outline was there. At some point, they had been painted over and the letters were shrunk down and moved further forward on the fuselage, above the wings.

Boy Fermis, You are doing a tremendous job on the Beaufighter. Good to hear concerning the overall fit and condtruction on this kit. Soon to be in my stash for sure.

I really am loving all these new Airfix kits. They are a bit basic in the pit detail, but nothing that Eduard can't take care of!

I would have had this wrapped up today, but got called into the airport for some snow removal. It's barely snowing, and what little is coming down is getting blown clear. This happens a lot, so I bring some models with me to work on (just assembly, no painting here)....so it aint so bad!

Great finish, really like the look of that.
