Well the Kingfisher is finished. 

About the kit.  Not really a bad kit.  Went together ok.  I will say construction would be much easier with the main float cut away from the fuselage.  This would allow a less awkward situation for both the construction and seam work.  The decals were a bit thick but they went down fine.  

All in all I am happy with the paint work.  It has a used but not abused type of look.

Session seven is in the books.  Almost there.

This session was all about prepping for the finish.  The gear for the aircraft being on land is on.  Other little bits and pieces are on.

Next up is the final push.  

The final update will be the finished build.

I just love that particular blue-grey Navy color especially a little faded like you have it on the model.

Even on those 1940 era color photos that color comes through and it is cool looking.

Before I had read what you had wrote on this Forum. Rustoleum has a spray can with a color that came really close.

We have 3 of those kits in plastic bags I bought when Monogram/Revell was just a few miles from our home.

So we painted one with the Rustoleum Spray can which I nick named "cheater painting" to help get Joey on his way to finish his school project. It really worked out fine, we sanded the dust off with 1200 grit sand paper and used oil paint washes and the kids at school as well as his teacher thought it was a "cool job". He did get an "A" on his History project!!! So now we are taking our time with this new one and will use the colors you suggested.

Toshi the Blue is commonly refered to as US Navy Blue Grey.  I used Model Masters Version of it in an Enamel.

I Hanover a question.  What blue color did you use for the main body and wings?  Is it called Intermediate Blue.  Thank you in advance.  if not can you tell what color blue is it.  Thank you in advance!

My son Joey 12years old is currently building the same kit and from the books he has been researching wanted that faded grey-ish blu-ish pattern that you posted !!!!!

We both love that color and like finishes that are faded, dusty, and been through "the paces".

The books we had didn't address that color and his model has been sitting on the "W.I.P." Works In Progress shelf.

Wow!  Session 6 looks incredibly fantastic.  It's amazing on how you did the staining.

Now for session six.  I am going to call this session "staining".

My first step is to dry brush the incredibly bright decals.  Going with the base colors I was able to knock the shine down a bit and simulate a bit of wear and tear.  Once done with that I brought out the oils and added some staining and streaking.  I did not go wild with this but I did accomplish what I wanted.  

Overall.

And a bit of a close up to show it a bit better.

Next session will cover doing some chipping and some of the smaller stuff that still needs to be added.

I wouldn't call it a crappy kit but rather very challenging .

I have this one in my stash along with the Lone Star resin pit and Squadron vac canopy to make it better.

your project is turning out stellar. The figure paint looks great and the paint fading on the plane came out looking just right. 

Some of these old Monogram kits need some TLC and make excellent models from our past.  I recall building that King Fisher back in the early 1970s or so.

Excellent build so far, very realistic.  I love it.  Your doing a fantastic job on this old school kit!
