After seeing how easy this laser cut tbf was to build, I'm kind of dreading the die stamped fw190 I have "waiting in the wings."

That will look like an excellent build.  So far so good, you got me excited on the TBF!

I did my only stick and tissue model as  kid. The stick part came out very well. I must have used too much water on the tissue part as i remember because after it dried, it twisted the wings so bad I just threw it away.

I did both stick and tissue, and the non-flying balsa scale models carved from solid wood blocks.  That was all there was, no plastic kits till I was about 9 or 10.  I hear they were earlier in GB.

Sometimes pinning the wing or tail surface to a firm plank of wood helped prevent warps.  You had to pin it through small blocks to raise the bottom surface off the plank to let it dry without sticking to plank. If blocks were all same height, it did hold the model part flat.

There has been a resurgence of balsa flying models, with laser cutting services.  Small cottage industries can get into business easier, with less investment- sort of like resin casting with plastic models.  Search out a good, larger hobby shop, or look up the web site for Penn Valley Hobbies, who carries many of these small mfgs.

Gosh, I haven't built a stick and tissue model in years. Lookin' good, there's just something about these that a plastic model can't match!

The wing is not glued in, it's just there for placement and fitting.

They're insect pins.  Sometimes used for bird taxidermy.

Yes, coming along nicely. While I haven't done it in a while, I use to scratch build my wood models. Consequently I have multiple plans from the past manufacturers as well and not so past designers in FF and RC.

If anyone is interested in a certain AC I can check my inventory to see what I have on my files. They would need to be printed out but the plans are free.

Looking great!  Sometimes for formers and such from the sheet stock, I trace the part on 020 styrene, cut it out, and then laminate the plastic piece to the balsa.  Saves filling and a lot of sanding if the piece will be visible and painted.

Being as I don't follow directions, I had to (or have a small saw) I had to sand these pieces apart then install the pieces.

Got some small rib work done.

The newer laser cut ones are world easier than the die cut old ones.  I've got a fw190 I'm dreading as its die cut because of the rib slots which often breakaway part of the rib if not done perfectly.

Great kits though.

Guillows says its "approximately" 1/30. They give a scale but everything from a zero to a fw190 to a tbf has the same wingspan of 1/30.

What scale is this?

Ahh, such good memories of those. I might just have to break one out for the heck of it.

Haven't built one of their kits in a few years. Lots of fun. Still have 1/2 doz. in the closet. Built a couple of Peanut scale ones a while back for the grandkids. They lasted about 15 minutes out at the ballfield.

I might just skin it.  I'm planning on making some larger versions RC and out of foam board once this one is done.  Theyll be cheap to fix and lightweight.
