I cant seem to find my original post about this build a few monts ago.
It is the Tamiya 1/32 P-51d that I will do as a 2 sqn South African AF Mustprang in Korea.
Basic fuselage ready to be covered....

Looking really cool so far. Interesting in seeing how the wheel wells there come out.

I just sprayed the silver on now, as soon as it is dry I can pck off the salt to see the chipping effect....
I will also need to add a whole heap of alluminium pipes to make these wells look better.
A little more cleanup to do but I think I succeeded in what I wanted to do, an inkwash will also make it look better I think.

Oh, very neat looking.
I am now busy adding thin copper wire to simulate the hydrollic lines to the various actuators and controll vlaves. This is really a very fiddly job!
Initially I was going to paint these silver to look like allu but then you will basically loost the wholw effect with them blending with the background so I will just leave them copper for some contrast.....afterall - it was wartime and I am sure using copper instead of allu pipes with the shortages might not be all that far fetched;-)

I got the basic fuse together but having a hard tome to get the front part of the nose ring assemblt yo fit, it keeps binding against the crank case....I am sure it is self enduces with me not fitting the engine to the milimeter , I will make it work though.

This one is going to be a show stopper for sure. Gorgeous , realistic work !

Wow I cant believe I "boxed" this model for 5 months...where does the time go!?
Anyway, being close to done with my 1/24 JU 87 I started on the Mustprang again, I'd better move it if I want it done for the MOY in end Jan'17.
Nothing to really report back on, I have just been joining the controll surfases, I wil not be using the PE hinges, I will glue them inplace.

I felt the same about it looking at the instructions. Then I just started with it and it actually builds rather easy - however there is ALLOT of sub components to build.
I found it better not to look at the model as a "wholw" but rather just do a few steps at a time and get on with it :-)
The 1/24 JU 87 I am busy with builds allot more difficult than the mustprang sofar,the tamiya's fif is second to none.
I am again amazed at the engineering of this kit, the wingroot fairing is so good! I slipped the wing onto the fuselage and ran this cement into the seam, it looks like no filling in this area will be needed :-)
Nice work :) I'm jumping in this thread because I'm working on one of these too. The bullets. . . great work painting those. I haven't done them yet but they look like tedius work. . . I'm leaving them for now in case I think of a more practical way of doing them but I'm not holding out much hope ;)
Glad i caught this before it wastolate. Some great detail in there, i was expecting you to say thosegun bays were scratched or AM.

Here is the undercart strut. I painted the slider part of the oleo Alclad and the rest is humbrol steel.Starting to look like a mustprang now...Now I just need to figure out if the pannel marked with red arrow was removable for maintenance. It would be a pitty to hide the nice PE filter under it.Painting the ammo is not difficult. I painted the belts with humbrol copper, when dry I just did a "pannal wash" to give shadow to each round. Works great.
It is a pitty I dont have a better camera to sow how good this engineering on the undercart is.
The oleo was wrapped in tin foil to look like chrome

That strut looks amazing! At first glance I thought it was a reference shot but then noticed the tweezers and instructions. The bright metal oleo really sells it. Looking forward to seeing it come together.

Thanx, with a great "canvas" it is easy to make it look good, just painted it LOL
Here it is with alclad grey primer on and some pannels with alclad black base to look like darker alluminium.
Then I did the exhaust panel in airframe allu to simulate heated stainless steel. The rest was done in duraluminium that I sprayed a little "patchy" to look like faded weatered alluminium. Theuns
