I didnt get to post as quickly as I wanted too. Been too busy working on models to spend time updating!
Got the landing gear painted
And once the landing gear on the decals! I did the detail work on the upper engine first. I tried some new weathering techniques. I didnt spend too much time here or worry about my paint being perfect because you really cant see it with the wing on. I mainly used it for practice. So I was planning use bullpups on the plane because they look awesome. I got the hasegawa set for the f4 phantom. They are decent but there is no detail in the rear and a large seam line thats almost impossible to remove easily. I searched hi and low and the only picture I could find of the rear of the missiel is this one. Note- it is for the smaller bullpup. So I was going to have a little creative license and install this in the rear. I have no idea what it is. Its from the spare box. However after weeks of searching the depths of the internet I found this low quality picture of the caps on the rear of the missiles! Again note it is the smaller bullpup. And I just realized I dont have any pictures of the caps being made. You'll just have to wait till the done pictures for them. Sorry.

Outstanding paint work on a very cool scheme. I like it.

Love the color scheme.

Heck! Its perfect man. I would'nt change a thing. A man needs a few square feet in his own home to leave as he please without worrying about someone messing with it.

SaltydogII Some really nice work on the crusader there Redstang! You know what I like too? The disaster area in the background known as your workbench. It reminds me of the one I used to have....looks like a bomb went off. LOL I working on getting another one set up. Your build really inspires me to get going friend. Thanks for sharing.

lol. I figured someone would point my work space out! I'm gonna remodel my model room soon so hopefully lit won't be such a mess.
I love the smell of plastic in the morning
Nothing too exciting, but paint!!! Model needs to be finished in 2 weeks so updates will hopefully come sooner.
I'm actually passed the decal stage but dont have the time to post the pics right now. I will update again in a few days!
Wow this build slipped under the Radar ! Moving along nicely
Nick.
Nice recovery on the wing flaps red. The look great.
Well, had my first major screw up. Due to financial reasons I purchased a f8j kit which is the later version. It was on sale. Didnt think anything of it until now. The forward wing flaps on the j are 2 piece rather than a single piece. If I had bought the e kit I wouldnt have this problem. So the solution was either purchase a second kit (they go for $60) or fix them myself. I chose to fix them myself.
Here I am holding the flaps to an old e model I built years ago to see the problem.
Coming together and scribing the panel lines which the 2 piece ones did not have This ones about done Here they are on the wing. I think they came out rather well. I should be in early paint soon. As long as the call of video games is not too strong.

feldgrau23 Red that is some really great work you got going on there. Your attention to detail is incredible. I watched the Movie "13 Days" about the Cuban missle Crisis. Was that an F8 that did the first low level pass on Cuba?

I don't know. I've never seen that movie. I'll have to check it out
Great to see an update. Superb work and detailing. Well done on the windshield recovery work. Looks good.
Awesome work. Ive always loved this kit. your cockpit work looks very realistic. Great job with the nose and windshield putty work. That's my least favorite part of any conversion or mod. work
wolfhammer1 Looking really good and I appreciate the attention to detail. What is your source for the information about the K? John

the squadron walk around and in action books. Also reference pics and what ever I find online. There's not much information of the K but I have a few good pics of the one I'm building this based on.
Ok, Im back. I mainly use mobile devices which makes updating this forum difficult.
Got the guages and the forward cockpit done.
And now I installed the forward cockkpit glass after dipping it in future. Because the nose was reshaped and is now thinner the cocpit glass didnt fit correct. Some more putty work followed. The "hump" removed from the main wing Starting to get together.

Excellent work so far. Really impressive workmanship to get everything correct. Especially like your attention to detail.
Thanks. I started out thinking there would be enough plastic but there wasn't enough. I ended up filling it with milliputty.
Fantastic progress, this build is really taking shape!

Great job so far on the F-8 and the WIP. I'm enjoying the excellent pics and the informative step-by-step is one of the better ones out there. TY for posting
I'm finally retired. Now time I got, money I don't.
To continue reshaping the front jthe forward canopy glass has to be installed and worked to fit since the fuselage is now thinner. This means now the cockpit has to be completed first.
So the cockpit I'm using is for an f8e. The k is an upgraded c to e standards. I couldn't find any reference pics of a inversions cockpit so I figured this be the closest. I accidentally knocked the rails off with my thumb when fitting the cockpit so I had to scratch build some new ones.
I then painted the cockpit with a custom paint mixture. In all my reference pics the cockpits are more blue grey than just grey. The paint is mainly tamiya rlm grey with 2 drops of sea blue and white till I got the shade I wanted.
Reshaped the nose and filled the gaps. Here is a comparison pic of the 2 styles.
Heres a little comparison shot against my last crusader. It's kind of hard to see without the rest of the cockpit together.

Hello!
Nice build! What paint scheme do you plan for this one? Good luck with your project and have a nice day
