Gamera

Nice line up of jets there Toshi!

And thanks Steve/Modelcrazy for helping out!

Thank you Gamera.  I have just now joined your Japanese group build.  Please give me sometime as I want to build this kit and then the Corsair kit prior to building the Raiden.  I know I'll have fun in your GB and I'm so looking forward to it.  Thank you so much for everything!

Gam's Japanese Build already started and the T-bolt starts Oct 1. It should be stated on the first page with the rules.

Thank you so much for your time and information!

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Since 2 Raiden kits come in the same box, make one for Gam's Japanese Build and one for the T-Bolt Build.

Sounds like a plan!  Now how do I know when the two GB starts?  Thank you in advance!

Why are the Thunderbolt guys asking me to join their GB when I'm building a Raiden?  I don't get it?  Thank you in advance!

Because Raiden roughly translated means Thunderbolt. Rai (Thunder) Den (Lightning) hence Thunderbolt.

I'm going to build the Macchi 202 Folgore, which again means Thunderbolt.

Ah, I got it.  That is so cool!  Thank you Gamera!

I added the Academy logo decal with the aircraft description under the tail as my memory is so bad.  This will help me.  The other side of the tail has the Lockheed logo.  I did the Lockheed logo was cool to me hence I added that on.  I'm sure all forum members will have a good laugh at this!  I sure did!  LOL!  I hope you have all enjoyed this build as much as I have enjoyed building the F-35!

Here is my complete modern day jets collection.  I did not include two jets of which are from the WWII era.  They are the Me 262 and the Horten.

Hai, love to see you start on the Raiden, very good-looking interceptor. I fact I think that's one of the main reasons I like Japanese aircraft, they built some of the most attractive aircraft of the Second World War.

I'm not sure if the Thunderbolt group build is no cross-overs or not but I'd love to have you in my Japanese group build too- if it's ok with them you can enter both at once.

Yes, the Japanese did in fact have some beautiful aircraft.  I have to say my favorite is the Zero and my number all time Japanese aircraft is the Shinden.  Everyone that came to my condo were amazed by the Shinden.  I'd be happy to join both GB.  I told the guys over at the Thunderbolt GB that I might finish my stash before any GB starts!  LOL!

I can hold back on building the Raiden kit.  But that's like asking a junkie to wait for their drugs until tomorrow!  LOL!

I'd like to ask you a question?  Why are the Thunderbolt guys asking me to join their GB when I'm building a Raiden?  I don't get it?  Thank you in advance!

Also, thank you so much for always helping me and giving me your support in my builds.  I so appreciate it.  Doomo, arigato gozaimasu!

Hey Toshi, the F-35 is coming along swell! And I agree, looks better armed to the teeth.

And neat photos from the Rock and Roll Museum, thanks for sharing.

Plus lucky you having a Hobby USA, we had one but the owner decided to retire and no one wanted to take over the store so it closed... Crying

Yes, I too think it looks mean Super Angry with all it's munitions!  It definately is incorrect but I like it and I'm glad you like it too!  LOL!  No problems about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  It's my pleasure.  You're very welcome.

That's too bad about the Hobby Town USA in your area for it to close.  Ours is about 30 to 40 miles from where I live in Streetsboro.  It's in Mentor.  So it's still a drive especially for me.  Getting too old.  LOL!  I wanted to buy a Tamiya Harrier but they didn't have one so I'll be looking on eBay or Amazon for one.  Mrs. Toshi has a $100.00 off coupon for me to use on Amazon prime so I'm excited about that!

Thank you so much my friend for always supporting my builds and having such conversations with you.  It means so much to me!

Toshi

P.S.  At some point I'll be starting the Hasegawa Raiden kit.  I know how much you're into aircraft from Nihon!  Arigato!

Now thats armed to the teeth!

I showed my daughter your guitar photos.  My daughter's a budding rock artist and she was wowed by the pics.

Yes sir!  I liked this kit as it allows you to pick and choose which munitions the builder would like to choose and add to the F-35.  I will be adding all of the available munitions to my build.

I'm glad she really was "Wowed" by the photos I took.  Tell her I said to practice everyday and never give up.  Good luck to her!  You see, I was told I would never be a jazz musician.  So I practiced hard everyday.  A few years later in England I smiled at the audience while on stage playing for the Live Aid concert.  So dreams do come true!

Toshi

Wait, you were at Live Aid?  Wow! My daughter is too young for that but Ill surely tell her to look it up.

Your F-35 is looking really good, by the way.

Yes, we drove to the port of Zeebrug in Belgium and took a ferry across the English Channel.  I recall seeing the white cliffs of Dover.  It was very beautiful.  We then drove to Saint Andrews in Scotland to Saint Andrews resort which is where golf was invented.  I don't play golf but I walked the courses and it was gorgeous.  The following day we played our concert for Live Aid and left the next day. The band is called the Abrams Brothers.

The Lightning II is now having it's decals applied.  I'm almost done.  I'll be posting a completed WIP soon.  allan thank you so much for all the support and interest you've shown in my builds.

P.S. Other notable concerts I've played at are the Bicentenial of Bastille Day, North Sea Jazz Festival, and at the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The F-35 is looking terrific. That armament load out is indeed impressive.

That haul of kits is sweet Toshi. Especially the 1/48 Tamiya Corsair. You will certainly enjoy the Hasegawa kit. Excellent detail and fit with them. Should you choose to expand your F4U Corsair collection I suggest seeking out the selection that Hasegawa has put out. They've molded the other models of Corsairs that Tamiya has not such as the F4U-5, AU-1 and the F4U-7. In fact, I finally added the F4U-7 in French naval markings to my stash last week via a Facebook auction group for $12.00. Score! The issue as that the Hasie kits are OOP but, you can easily score one on ebay. The issue is that they often run in the $30.00-$50.00 range.

I'm certainly looking forward to each and everyone of those builds coming from you.

Thank you so much my friend.  Yes, just looking at the Tamiya kit is exciting and I'm excited for the Hasegawa kit as I've never made one.  I'm also excited about the Italeri kit, I've never made one of those either.  I'd like to build a Eduard kit next.  I heard they're really fantastic.  That's really great information in regards to the Corsair kits.  I'll have to look into that.  Thank you so much for the read and reply!  These conversations help me so much and I love everyone here on FSM Forums!  Once again thank you!

Now i didn't realise you were in a band. But wow, you played at Live Aid. That must have been somthing.

Ireland was not pretty back then. I was part of that small war for a few years, spending 4 years in Londonderry from 91 to 95 and six months in Belfast in 96/97. It was pretty nasty.

I remember the fire at Kings Cross, a lot changed on the Underground after that.

Thats the good thing about this place. Its not just about the models, its about the people as well. Its great getting to know others, beyond what they like to build.

Yes, besides playing in my own band as a leader of Jazz Attack during slow periods, I was also an independent contractor.  A band called the Abram Brothers picked me up and we toured everywhere in Europe.  Being a part of Live Aid was one of the highlights of my life.  I was young and naive, everything that happened around me I absorbed like a sponge so that i could use this experience for the next step in my life.

After your description of the war, I'm glad I did not go to Belfast.  That's where I wanted to go.  That's how stupid I was, I wanted to experience everything so as to be able to incorporate this experience in my music!

Kingscross was so terrible, God bless them all!

Yes, I completely agree with that.  It's all about the person/people that build the kits.  The kits are just the inner expression like how an artists paints.  You get to know the person.  This is the greatest group of humans I've ever met!  Thank you for being my friend!

Toshi

There were other British bands that were displayed.  So many to take pics from, my phone died!  LOL!

My favorite all time favorite British rock band is Led Zeppelin!

Toshi

I am mainly in to more recent (ish) American bands. REM, Chilli Peppers, FOO Fighters. Queen is probably my favorite British band.

I see, those are really great modern bands.  With the exception of Queen, they are in my top 10 favorite bands.  Queen has to be in my top 5 band list.

When we opened for Live Aid in the UK.  I had so much fun!  Can you imagine an 18 year old musician playing and opening for these great bands?  I was out of control.  Running after women drinking and eating.  That's the fist time I had "Haggis"Indifferent  It was a very interesting meal!  They had a parade with the haggis in the pub and sang before we ate it.  So much was going on during that time in my life.

The people in the UK were the best loving human beings I've ever met!  A great bunch of blokes!  LOL!  I spent most of my time in Saint Andrews Scotland at the Saint Andrews Golf Resort.  It was so beautiful to see.  I asked "me" driver to take me to see Lochness "you know".  LOL!  So off we went, it was great but unfortunately no Lochness Monster!

I then ask the driver "Lets go across to Ireland?  He said I was under his supervision and could not allow me to go to Ireland.  Band rules.  When in France once, I took off by myself to go to Nice.  I got scoldings from the tour manager and promised I'll never do that again.  So here I am not following protocol wanting to go to Ireland.  You see, during 1984-1989 a small war was being fought by the IRA.  I wanted to see that.  Yes, I'm crazy as I wanted to be a part of history.

I might as well!  I've already been through the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, the 200th anniversary "bicentennial" of "Bastille Day", 200th year death of Mozart, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the crash of the 747 terrorist bomb on the Pan Am flight over Lockerby Scotland.  Oh, I forgot, there was a really bad fire in the London Underground due to the fact the your escalators were made out of wood and it caught fire.  Many people died in that disaster.  It was so terrible!  I left Europe on August 17, 1989 to help my father as he was dying.  But that's a whole another different fun and crazy story I can tell on another thread!

Bish, I know but once again thank you so very much for these conversations with you.  Not only do you help me with my coordination and cognition, I hope I'm making sense, your are also helping me remember such long ago fond and insane memories from another time in my young life!  I thank you for that!  You are the man!

As for the four kits depicted above of which is my first four stash kits, I'd like the opportunity to tell everyone about the importance of each kit as it was methodically picked specifically for a purpose!

(Tamiya 1/48 Vought F4U-1A Corsair) This will be Corsair number seven.  Why did I purchase another Corsair again especially after I built six (Corsair #1 Testors 1/72, #2 Tamiya 1/32, #3 Revell 1/48, #4 Tamiya 1/32, #5 Academy 1/72, and #6 Testors 1/72) Corsairs already.  First off it's a Tamiya!  You know we all have made a Tamiya kit at some time or another.  Second, I wanted to see the difference with the detailing between the Tamiya 1/32 and the 1/48.  Third and finally, as you all know by now, it's my favorite number one aircraft of all time!

(Italeri 1/48 Arado Ar 196 A) My fourth seaplane being the Arado and having built in the past a Martin, Kingfisher, and a Catalina, will be fun and interesting.  I always wanted to build a Revell of Germany Arado, but I've never built a kit from Italeri.  So for me, this became an obvious choice.  It's also labeled as "Brand New Tooling" and has the markings not only for a obvious Luftwaffe aircraft but you can build a Japanese or an Italian Arado.  Pretty cool but I think I'll stick with the Luftwaffe version, although the Japanese markings looked cool on the Arado but so did the Italian version.  Decisions decisions.  LOL!

(Hasegawa 1/72 Mitsubishi J2M3 Raiden (Jack) Type 21) I bought this kit for several reasons, it was 50% off and it's a Hasegawa.  Like the Italeri kit, I've never made a Hasegawa kit so this will be interesting.  Another reason is that this is a two for one kit, there are two Raidens to build from the 302nd Flying Group and has markings for both groups from the 302 Group.  I think it's pretty cool to have the opportunity two build the same kit twice.

(Tamiya 1/35 Kampfpanzer Leopard) Finally a tank!  I know, I know it's not an aircraft but I needed to purchase this kit for one reason and one reason only!  A few months ago, actually to put it correctly, it was during the 2015 winter season.  Wow, how time flies, don't we all say and know that!  LOL!  I purchased from Hobby Lobby a AFV Weathering Kit by Vallejo #78.406.  It's a weathering kit for green military armour vehicles.  Why did I buy it?  Like the chicken that crossed the road, because it was there!  LOL!

The weathering kit comes with a total of 7 acrylic colors for $14.99 plus you need to apply the 40% ubiquitous Hobby Lobby discount.  You've got to love that!  It came in at approximately eight or nine bucks.  Not bad for my first weathering kit experiment.  If I mess it up, it's not like I spent a ton of money on it.  The kit comes with three model colors 822, 985, and 976.  Two model washes 514 and 512.  Finally it has a pigment binder 233 and a pigment color powder 104.  What I want most importantly on this build is for the guys in the armour thread to give me some kind of direction and tips on how I'm doing.  Everyone on this forum are A+ members so this will not be an issue.

Last but not least, I'm looking to have a ton of fun building, in some cases for the first time kits that I specifically bought with Mrs. Toshi for reasons described above.  I hope I get as many reads and replies as possible for my builds so that I can continue to learn from you all plus it'll be fun for all of us!  I think I'm going to create a thread with this same information repeated since it's has such an interesting story behind all these builds!  As always, thank you forum members from the bottom of my heart for following my builds and allowing me to be part of this fantastic community of great people!

After Hobby Town USA, Mrs. Toshi and I went to Olive Garden and met family members for dinner.  The whole family was nice enough to eat dinner early so that there weren't too many people around to make me upset.  I enjoyed my salad, calamari appetizer, and chicken with shrimp pasta.  My son and I had espresso to finish our palate.  I ordered cheesecake to go.

I really enjoyed our time with Ohana.  It means family in Hawaiian.
