2 out of 3 ain't bad. (Rare/hard to find kits)
Posted by Keyda81 on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 8:07 PM

I managed to snatch up 2 out of 3 of the rare/hard to find without paying an arm and a leg kits I've wanted.  Yesterday it was an Otaki C-5 Galaxy kit 1/144.  Today it was a Testor's C-130 Hercules "Fat Albert" 1/72.  Still trying to find a Revell B-1 Lancer in 1/72.  They seem to go for quite the amount on eBay when they actually show up on there.  1/48 is easier to find, but it's too big.  If I got that one I probably wouldn't be flying just under hubby's "this is getting ridiculous" radar.  Wink

So what rare/hard to find kits are you still looking for?

Sounds like Hubby needs to relax a little lol. If this is your creative outlet, then he needs to respect that. My wife understands, thank God. lol

I'm thinking there may not be a huge price difference between the 72 and 48 Bones, since the 1/48 is readilly available.  I have one in the stash and the box takes up a lot of space! But I prefer 1/48 scale for everything except for a large assortment of WW1 planes that better get built while I can still see.

Gotta be a 72 scale B-1 out there--just sacrifice a leg, you need the arm to keep building!

As far as hubby goes, I bet he'd understand!

Well, I did find one that I have been looking for since the movie first came out:

Next I need to get a model of the M-715 Weapons truck by Kaiser as well as a CJ-5 Jeep with a hard top.

I didn't realise those Revell B-1's had got so hard to find. My hard to find aircraft kit is very hard to find as it doesn't exist, a 1/72nd Ju 87C.

I may just have to "crack" and get the 1/48 one of these days.  I'll keep on looking for now, as I have enough in my stash to keep me busy for a while, lol.  I can only use 3 corners of the ceiling in my living room, front door is in the one corner.  I have 2 of those corners taken up already with C-130's, lol.  You would have to have a pretty big shelf to display it.  I suppose if you had the wings folded it would be a little less space.

I can't say it's hard to find, there are several on eBay, but it's flippin' expensive. I'd like to get the Bandai 1/35 M61A5. Just a cool looking kit.

I dont really have a specific "kit" that is hard to find, but its a set of 1/48 decals that seem to be super elusive to me. I've been trying for at least 3 years to come up with a set of decals for my F-4G from the 190th FS here in Idaho. I have seen where they used to be available, but are no longer in production. I am not adept at printing my own decals, as I've tried and my laser jet printer at home doesnt play well with decal paper, it tends to eat it or smear the ink. *disclaimer* I did find a set online from a retailer yesterday for more than the kit and the AM parts cost...to expensive for my taste.

On the Bench:  Lots of unfinished projects!  Smile

I forgot one this morning. Revel 32nd Ar 196A. There is one on Amazon, but for 200 quid, some one is taking the Mickey.

There was a swing wing GB a few years back and a few guys did the 48th B-1, that is a beast. I'll be doing the 72nd kit in a dio, thats a big chunk of wood for a base.

Lol, I hear you on people asking way too much for some kits.  I think I got a pretty good deal on Fat Albert at 31 bucks plus shipping.  I seen another one yesterday that someone wanted a hundred and fifteen for.  I'm sure they won't get that much though.  The very few C-5 kits I seen were all over a hundred bucks, I snagged mine for a total of 85 bucks.  I didn't get a steal or anything, but I don't feel like I got robbed either.  Now if people would just start shipping stuff!

I should really go to garage sales and take a look.  But every time I go looking for something in particular I land up empty handed, and disappointed, lol.

I'd love to find the 1/72 B-52 from Monogram.  Grandpa got it for me for christmas about 40 years ago but I rushed it.  Want to do it justice....hoping for a reissue.

Also a XB-70 Valkyrie.  Just not sure which one is worth the money, but again looking for a deal.

This is what a trip to Dayton AFB does to you

I picked up the 1/144 B-52.  Again purely because space limitations.  I love the big models, I just don't have the room for them.  I've limited the big ones to only be my favorite planes.  Which by the end of next week I'll have 4 different versions.Embarrassed  I just can't help myself when it comes to C-130's, lol.

He really does, lol.  He's got so much more stuff than me, and none of it is organized or put away!  It drives me nuts.  I just need to find a spot for my corner shelf, it's the only thing out of place at the moment.  I keep having to move it, lol.  Even my stash of models is neatly stacked under an end table, lol.

Keyda,

Everytime I go to garage sales I end up taking home a bunch of stuff I don't need and no models LOL

Lol.  I have an extremely hard time going to the hobby store for paint, or some other supply and not buying another kit!  I keep telling myself you have enough in your stash, put down the box!

Tongue Tied...Makes me wish I would have nabbed that 1/72 B-1 kit that was at a local pawn shop a few months ago. It was marked at $15...probably could have walked out with it for $10...easilly. Had no interest in the kit though.

Doh!  I'm still hunting for one.  Fat Albert arrived today.  Still no C-5 Galaxy though.  It's not even marked as shipped, no idea what the seller is doing.  I'm crossing my fingers it just shows up soon.

I was poking around E-Bay and wasn't really looking for it but when I came across the old Monogram F-19 Stealth fighter, I couldn't resist. Big Smile

About the only thing I'd really like to find is the old Revell Yacht America in 1/72 scale(?) or maybe it was 1/96. Big kit is what I remember.

I have no room for 1/72!  I'm going to have a hard time finding room for the 1/144, and the 8 other models in my stash.  My stash is growing faster than my builds.

My MC-130E combat talon came in the mail today.Smile  Along with the B25 Mitchell.  I'm still shopping for more models, even though I can't decide which one to do next, lol.
