Dang. You are tha man if you tackle that kit and come out of it with all the hairs still on your head.  The Eduard kit looks a little more promising being ex-Academy molds and all. Hell anything beats a Revell version of it! lol

Boxart P-38J Pacific Lightnings 1175 Eduard

I do think it's back available in the Academy boxing now as well

Man I can't afford to lose any they are thin enough as is

Thanks mustang! Despite the trials I may double down and build the Revile (misspelled on purpose) P-38J. From what I've read a stinker of a kit and also in a NMF,  I think alcohol will need to be involved

You know it's one of those inherent qualities of all the old Revell aircraft kits that it has to be as ill fitting and sometimes no fitting as possible. I built the Revell 1/48 Corsair a couple of years ago and this thing took two dives into the trash can..............and I rescued it twice and went ahead and finished it after 3 months of pure hell. The end result wasn't too bad but it wasn't without alot of hard work and lots of frustration. I don't plan on ever building another old Revell mold kit.

I will say that your 110 turned out beautiful despite your troubles. Way to go Greatmaker. Yes

Thanks for the info Toshi.  I have used Eduard masks in the past with no troubles but I couldn't find one for this kit.. I checked I have one more montex mask and its for the 1/48 Tamiya Lancaster bomber

Trails and tribulations, you did a fantastic job!  I'd be proud to have that in my display.

As for Montex masks, no.  I've never had issues with them at all.

Greatmaker

Thanks for the kind words guys. You always have an idea in your head what you want it to look like and this was far from what I envisioned.  Oh yeah I forgot I broke one of the wheel struts as well.  I normally use tamiya tape for canopies as well but with the amount of framework on this one I decided to splurge.  Guess I shoudn't have.

Wow, after your description of what went wrong at the top I was expecting the model to look horrible! That's some nice work man! I don't see any issues with her in the photos and you did a great job on the ink blot camo which can be a pain if the airbrush/paint doesn't want to cooperate.

Kudos sir! Yes

Wow! You fought through all those setbacks and ended up with that. My hat's off to you for some darn fine modeling skills. Great Looking 110.

I'm still working on the ability to not over paint my pre-shading.Tongue Tied

The end result is, in spite of the trials and tribulations, your 110 came out beautifully. I guess that's the price we hafta pay for beiing modelers. i have trouble on different parts of almost every model I build and it drives me nuts .

Looks pretty darn good from where I sit. I've always used tamiya masking tape for canopies and other masking needs. I've tried liquid masks and didn't really like them. Pit work looks good. Nice job!

Well dispite all the issues you had it turned out great!  I felt that way about the F-16 Thunderbird I did.  It was trouble from the start, I'm sure it was just me though.  Wasn't any problems with the kit itself until I got to the decals.

Well I'm presenting this as an example of what not to do.  I should have guessed I'd have trouble with this one when I used my trusty, dusty cheap walmart primer and it melted the plastic (Never had that happen before) Fortuneately it was on the inside so I was able to recover. As for the build, the wings are the goofiest things on how they go together and the rudder pedals need to be straight up and down.  I angled them and test fitted.  for some reason they worked fine in half the fusalage but caught on the other half.  Nothing that tamiya liquid cement couldn't loosen.  I bought montex masks for this one.  First time I've used those.  I made sure I washed the canopy and I also cleaned with alcohol.  I used gloves when I applied them and burnished up a storm.  They stayed down until the primer hit. It seemed like they had trouble adhering to curved surfaces. Have any of you guys had similar trouble with these masks? Unfortuneately the primer I used etched the clear plastic so I hade to make a couple of the bars far wider than they should be.  This was my first time trying to stretch a sprue.  As such, the ventral antenna is way too thick. (Needed to read the sprue stretching tutorial) I had a great deal of trouble getting smooth surfaces.  I used a dark gray primer followed by light gray model master primer with multiple sanding after each application.  Thought I at least had the decal areas smooth...nope.  Overall I'm proud of only one thing.  After 5 years I've finally learned not to overpaint and cover up my pre-shading.  Thanks to the excellent examples of Lawdog, Fermis and others. Well here's the pics.  I had to restrain myself to taking a hammer to this one.  Maybe sometime in the far future I'll get one of the Eduard kits
