The "sun bleaching thing" I assume? Flat-out heat probably doesn't have much to do with the length of time, it's the UV rays getting through. That being said, 10 sunny days up here, probably does equate to fewer days in your area.

You may be onto something. I just get used to seeing big toothy sharks' teeth on stuff, but.... those certainly could be boar's teeth.   This changes everything. We may need to vote on this.

Build notes - 1/72 Heller kit, very fine detail with raised panel lines.

Interior, handpainted. Ejection seat had wire handles & masking tape harnesses added. Underside was a light Humbrol gray, # escapes me… Topside colours were custom-mixed Tamiya acrylics. All original kit decals used here, after a 10-day bleaching session in a south-facing window. No surprises, no ill-fitting parts, very little filler was required. Ordnance was sourceed from the spares box, rockets from an older Academy Spitfire, bombs possibly from some Hasegawa FW190 kits? I opted to NOT use the black + yellow "Suez stripes" on this one, just not a fan of the look on this machine. The TEETH were enough.

Things I'd handle differently: navigation lights in the tip-tanks should have been set up with coloured plastic & masked ahead of paint + decals. Not completely happy with the canopy framing, but I rarely am. Attachment points for the bombs + rockets could've been cleaner. One bomb shifted some as it dried, not too noticeable from the pics, but I know it's there.   The air intake splitter could also have been a little more refined.

Overall, Liked this kit a lot, and I'd build another. Or take a crack at one of the newer-tooled Valom kits? Although I've heard they have some build-up issues.

Even snapped a few prior to adding the boom-y-thing-ies. (and the landing light was still MIA at this point)

Well, the deal is, it's not a QUICK build at all, I just hadn't posted up my progress here, so I'm playing catchup. I actually started picking away at it in the summer, shelved it for several months, & just realllly got back into it a few weeks back.

 

Nicely done.  I am looking forward to your final reveal!  This is a very interesting build.

You are knocking this build out quickly...what's the deal?

BEFORE

AFTER a couple rounds of hand-applied touchups using Vallejo acrylics, annnd 4 or 5 applications of Future to level things out. Not perfect, but, better.

Not happy with my attempted napalm tanks. scrapped'em, scavenged a pair of iron bombs in their place. Rockets need to be touched up as well. Sometimes I hate the zoom-ins, but it does show faults better than the old eyeball for some reason. Didn't like the original rocket colour, repainted them, touchups to the rails tonight. Bomb#1 worked fine, bomb#2, the decal stripe got all screwed up, gotta fix that.

And paint has been slung:






2 coats of Future laid down, decals applied:





The decals were a little stiff/paper-y, but I really only had any trouble with the big toothy smile laying down on that compound curve. Not horrible, I'll get it set as well as I can with solution + Future, then carefully sand away any raised areas, touch it up with paint.

Grabbed one of the rudder ID decals from the French option. Sample decal checked out fine.

Annnnd digging through my Tamiya acrylics, I think I can actually do some mixing & get what I'm looking for.

Rockets from an Academy Spitfire. Tails added, ejector pin holes puttied. I'm thinking there should be a 2nd "connector rail" or whatever it would be called at the rear of those rockets though?

Figured I'd finish forming the bomb pylons. They still need the attachment points, but I'm happy with the size/shape now.



Not much to show, butt, any progress... y'know...

Picked away at some fiddlybits. Landing gear parts, gear bay covers. ALSO in this pic is the scrap of cardboard I used to get my curve for the funky bomb pylons that this machine has. Transferred that onto sheet styrene, sanded & refined, then looked & thought they weren't thick enough, so I've laminated them to another scrap of styrene.



Primer on here now, had a superglue fingerprint that had to be cleaned up & re-primed.  Everything else looked good though.

Spent a little time cleaning up the landing gear. The nose gear is probably "scale proper", but I've got a bad feeling about it not being broken. 1mm?



Annd the cockpit is still sorta-visible after being trapped between the fuselage halves. Sorta.





I found a few small pinholes in my puttied areas. Instead of more putty that would have to be applied-sanded-polished all over again, I brushed on some Future, which I had out anyway to dip the canopy in.
