Great looking build!!  I assume that's the Monogram Kit? Where did you get the tractor, did it come with the kit? I haven't built that particular kit in probably 40 years.

One thing though if I may. The black on the wing leading edges are rubber de-icer boots and wouldn't chip.

Yep It's a 1/48 Monogram Kit  Tractor came with the kit.  Thanks for the info on the De-icer boots.  Learn something new everyday

Another thing is that Monogram screwed up on the nose gear doors by copying the J model.  They open upward into the fuselage, not downward.

Lookin' good for sure. Thumbs up on that one!

Greatmaker, you did a wonderful job on that old kit. It is one impressive bomber! Now all you have to of is figure out where to put it.

Nice B-24.  Those aren't chips, you just just flew through a bunch of bugs that had eaten silver paint.

l like that idea.  I just figured it might be pieces of the radar jamming Al chaff that got chewed up by the propellers and stuck in the boots

Now, boots will show some white, chalky streaks, especially as they age. We would use a wax, actually Pledge furniture polish, to keep them shiny on the KingAir and 310. So, I don't think your treatment is at all out of place, especially if you dry-brush a little gray over the silver. Sure beats having to re-do them!

Thanks Toshi.  One of my employee's husbands owns a motorcycle business and they were nice enough to donate a "spare" display case for me.  Still need to fit a Lancaster, Betty and a SM.79 Sparviero in there.  No way the B-29 will fit

Really nice work there! I've only done a B-24 in 1/72nd, gotta admire something that big as the 1/48th kit!

Now, a whole 'nuther way to treat the boots is to paint that whole area aluminum. It was common practice to remove the boots in theater, and often they wouldn't bother to retouch the paint there. The boots were prone to tearing from shrapnel damage, and strips of flapping rubber sure slowed them down and made them fly funny! They didn't get ice all that often, and when they did, they just plowed along with it until it eventually sublimated. There is famous old video on the net of a B-17 spinning out of formation, and you can clearly see glint from the bare leading edges as it rotates.

 

The thing to remember is this .

 If you are checking systems , watching the boots get bigger and smaller can be hypnotic when you are tired !   T.B.
