P-47D "Eileen" 1/48 Tamiya kit

The photo studio at my work was cool and took some pro shots of my finished model.

It's a beautiful job.  I'm in awe of the checkered decals as I know how tough it is to get it right.  Just great work.

Excelent work Redman!! It's look amazing! Since my point of view, it has the operative touch perfect for this kind of aircrafts. I'm sure you can do a very good position in any contest.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I am going to put this one in the WAMC model show coming up in November see what happens. I have never even been to a model show. I may be getting in over my head, I imagine the work that will be there is over the top good. 

Next up P-51D "Old Crow" in olive drab prior to be being stripped to bare metal. 

OH MY !  i had to view this a couple of times to make sure I was not looking at the real thing,  Incredible painting job !

Great job Redman. This is not a criticism, just a thought. I usually dull coat my camouflaged aircraft. But recently I experimented with a matte finish on a olive drab piece of junk and the slight sheen gave a nice variation. Looking at the wing of the actual period photo you can see a sheen - probably a reflection of the sun. I wonder what you think some matte would do to your model?

Wow thank you guys for all nice words! I have never been to a model contest/show, but there is one coming up near me in November. I may throw this one in just for giggles. Super intimidating though, I can only imagine the level of work of what will be at a contest. The have a special 1/48 P-51 category too, so that may be next. Onward!

Now that's one mean looking P-47 ready for battle, you did such a good job on this in that it looks real.  What a fantastic build sir!

Almost there. Still have to attach the landing gear doors, install the guns, and string the antennae wire. For the guns I picked up a set of Master Model .50 Cal metal barrel tubes, should look pretty cool as opposed tp the plastic kit ones.

Now that is really useful information. I was wondering about the odd colour of your cockpit, and now I know. Very nice build!

Getting close to finishing this one. This is the first model I have used oils for washes and filters. I definitley like the effect. 

This is looking really great!  Love what you did with the engine.  I'm going to check out lawdog114's tutorial, since the bubbletop version of this kit is next in my queue.

Dumb question for my art brain, but on the decals it says "right" side. That means your right as if you are sitting in the cockpit correct?

Nice progress so far. I did the 1/72 version and for the checkers, I cut out the white ones that are along the sides with plenty of decal solution, you will probably need to do some touch up where the decals don't match up. If I do one again, I will probably just end up masking the white and spraying the black checkers. Can't wait to see your finished result 

Getting ready to tackle the checkered nose decals. It is in 3 pieces.. left, right, and a top piece. Any tips on laying this down? Which one to start with?
