Speaking of color... I meant to post this earlier on in the beginning. As you may or may not know, the P-47s built by Republic had a "Dark Dull Green" interior. Those built by Curtiss had a Green Chromate interior. To match Republic's Dark Dull green, I used 50/50 parts Tamiya Flat Green (XF-5) and Tamiya Dark German Gray (XF-63). I think it came out pretty nuts on. ;)

Thanks rooster! The Olive Drab I used is Model Masters Acrylic OD. Several light coats of it over flat black pre-shaded panel lines. I am going to apply a multi color (blue, green, yellow, white, etc.) oil dot filter to add some tonal value and depth to the olive drab. Try to take the weathering up a notch. Definitley practicing on a scrap piece first. ;)

Very nice work! I like the OD color, what did you use? Nice addition to the landing gear as well.

Thanks for your helpful tutorial lawdog!

Next, I have the base colors laid down. Still need to finish the black invasion stripes on the fueselage. Then its off to gloss clear for decals and washes.

I am starting to use oil washes, dot filters, for the first time so we will see how that goes. I used an oil wash of burnt umber and black for the landing gear and pylons. More to come...

Looks fantastic Red. I'm glad you got use out of the tutorial. I think you nailed it. Unfortunately the PW 2800 on this kit is fairly weak (notice how the cylinder cooling fins disappear under paint?). The wiring goes along way to improve it's appearance. I look forward to your progress.

Got the pre-shading and base color laid down. This particular bird still had her invasion stripes on the bottom of the wings painted over faintly with neutral gray, but you could still somewhat see them. I wanted to simulate this so I painted on the stripes and shot several light coats of neutral gray. I still need to finish the visible invasion stripes on the fuselage, as well as paint the nose white for the checkerboard pattern coming up. Then going to try dot filters with oil paints, as well as a pin wash for the panel lines.

I just love that engine!!!! I wish that I knew of that web site before I made my B-29 engines. The use of clay to hold the engine in place is really smart. Great idea.

Your comments and questions are always welcome.

Great looking build. Just finished the Hasegawa Razorback. Would like to compare the two.

Great....now I'm going to have to build one of these too!

Well, I hope whenever I get around to it, it will look as nice as yours is so far!

Yes, that engine and its ignition wires look great.  Thank you for sharing, and thank Law Dog for the tutorial.

Love the pit too.

Gave wiring up an engine a shot. Thanks to lawdog114's fine tutorial.

http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/2/t/149327.aspx

Came out decent, not to be used as a wiring diagram, but a representation non the less.

Got her in a light coat of primer ready to pre-shade, and shoot color.

I built the 1/72 version of this one, and really enjoyed how it came out. Can't wait to see yours.

That is gonna be a sick looking Razorback. Very nice work on the pit and an excellent choice on the scheme.

P-47D "Eileen" 1/48 Tamiya kit
Posted by Redman7176 on Friday, April 28, 2017 10:25 AM

Got going on my next project. Going to do a rendition of Lt. Frank Oiler's P-47D "Eileen", 78FG out of Duxford, England 1944 still wearing partial invasion stripes. Kit is a Tamiya 1/48 scale.
