P-47D "Eileen" 1/48 Tamiya kit

Speaking of color... I meant to post this earlier on in the beginning. As you may or may not know, the P-47s built by Republic had a "Dark Dull Green" interior. Those built by Curtiss had a Green Chromate interior. To match Republic's Dark Dull green, I used 50/50 parts Tamiya Flat Green (XF-5) and Tamiya Dark German Gray (XF-63). I think it came out pretty nuts on. ;) 

Thanks rooster! The Olive Drab I used is Model Masters Acrylic OD. Several light coats of it over flat black pre-shaded panel lines. I am going to apply a multi color (blue, green, yellow, white, etc.) oil dot filter to add some tonal value and depth to the olive drab. Try to take the weathering up a notch. Definitley practicing on a scrap piece first. ;)

Next, I have the base colors laid down. Still need to finish the black invasion stripes on the fueselage. Then its off to gloss clear for decals and washes. 

I am starting to use oil washes, dot filters, for the first time so we will see how that goes. I used an oil wash of burnt umber and black for the landing gear and pylons. More to come...

Those effects are perfect. Absolutely love it!

Got the pre-shading and base color laid down. This particular bird still had her invasion stripes on the bottom of the wings painted over faintly with neutral gray, but you could still somewhat see them. I wanted to simulate this so I painted on the stripes and shot several light coats of neutral gray. I still need to finish the visible invasion stripes on the fuselage, as well as paint the nose white for the checkerboard pattern coming up. Then going to try dot filters with oil paints, as well as a pin wash for the panel lines.

I just love that engine!!!! I wish that I knew of that web site before I made my B-29 engines. The use of clay to hold the engine in place is really smart. Great idea.

Came out decent, not to be used as a wiring diagram, but a representation non the less. 

Got her in a light coat of primer ready to pre-shade, and shoot color. 

The holy grail of 1/48.  Great start.....
