Excellent work, really like the method used of applying the camou.  Yes

Acrylic washes do dry fast, and are likely to leave a stain mark.   You could try mixing in a drop of dish soap - that might help it move along into engraved areas etc,. as well as maybe make it easier to clean up?  If the area that requires cleanup is a flat surface, can also try buffing out with light sanding, but pass the sanding stick in the direction of airflow, as that helps enhance the look of weathering.

regards,

Jack

Awesome build, exceptional camoflauge.

Thanks my friend. If you haven’t built this kit, it’s one I would definitely recommend. I would say it’s my second favorite kit after the Tamiya Sturmovik

That looks really good! I built the same kit a couple years ago and loved it. I had some issues with the camo too, but ended up with something I could live with. Looks to me like you did a great job of it. I used Montex masks on my canopy so I can't really comment on that issue.

I just love it when a good kit comes together. When I find one like this it’s like reading a book you just can’t put down. In one day I built about 3/4 of this kit whereas it took weeks to build the trumpeter.

Mopar Madness

I really like how you did your camouflage!! I’ve stopped using acrylic washes altogether because they do tend to dry too quickly and leave a water stain like you pointed out. In my experience, acrylic washes need to be cleaned up almost as quickly as you apply it.  After the gloss cures, I’d let if flow into the panel line, let it dry for about 10-15 minutes, then lightly remove the overage with a slightly moistened Q-tip. I’ve had a ton of good fortune with enamel washes.  She’s a beautiful bird!

Thank you for your support I almost wonder if the MM acrylic doesn’t play nice with testors glosscoat. I tried letting the acrylic dry for just a few minutes and it was a disaster. Ended up taking the paint off to the primer to get the excess off. Then repainted

Wow....turned out great Robert. It looks like you overcame the issues with the washes.

Thanks Joe. I still have a long way to go. I guess I can blame my poor quality paints...lol. I have more model master acrylics than most hobby stores in my area. Too bad there isn’t a trade in program

Add my kudos for a build well done!

I've only used Montex and Eduard masks so I can't chime in on yours but from what Keavdog said I guess I'll stick to the ones I trust unless there's no other alternative.

Thanks Mike. This was my first time using that brand of masks. I much prefer Montex and Edward

Nothing wrong with the camo that I can see, other that the bleed pic you posted on the wash sequence.

Going to file that way of doing that style of camo away for future use.

Nice build.

Thank you goldhammer I just wish I wouldn’t have tried to fade the reverse dots. It gave a very clean looking pattern. 20/20 I should have made smaller blobs of the sticky tac

Ive had mixed results.  My issue was with them sreatching.  If you misplace on a couple trys they get stretched and misshapened pulling them off.

Thanks,

John

Looks great!  I like the camo work

Thanks keavdog. One thing I forgot to mention was that I used Black Magic masks on this one.  I was less than impressed. They are a very thick and sticky vinyl mask. That made them hard to place and I had a bugger of a time getting them off.  Most of the time the mask tore in the process and I kept waiting to pull the canopy off.  Despite the stickiness of the mask, every panel had some bleed through and I burnished the crap out of them.  Has anyone had similar experiences with this brand of canopy mask?

This was a fantastic kit to build.  My only snag.....operator error... was fitting the front part of the canopy over the interior clear piece.  I must have misaligned that because everything else on this kit fit like a glove.  I tried the reverse dot technique and was pretty happy with how that turned out except....... I thought the dots were too strong so I tried to fade them with the RLM 76.  Mixed the paint to thick and ended up covering them too much.  I couldn't figure out how to easily repair that so I just free handed airbrushing over them.  Didn't like that look as much. It did give me the idea to try the reverse dots on the Tamiya Hein when I get to that one.  I'm still having a bugger with panel lines.  I've tried oil washes over both acrylic and laquer clear coats as well as acrylic washes over the same.  On the pic I did an acrylic wash over a cured testors glosscoat. I let that dry for several hours then hit it with dullcoat.  It seemed to cause this type of bleeding.  I tried to fix this with airbrushing the panel lines as I usually do but I missed this one.  Also I managed not to break any of the many fiddly bits on this plane...a first for me.  Thanks for looking and your support
