Thank you Mike,

I know there's no reason to get competitive or seek validation from judges, but it is nice to see evidence that others like my work.  I do feel lucky getting gold.  There were some very impressive models on that table.

I look forward to seeing yours Charley.  I guess great minds think alike.

I don't want to brag, but I will.  My Mig got a gold medal for 1/48 jets at the Cincinnati Scale Modeler's show today.  I guess the judges liked it.  Really, I feel honored.  There was some tremendous work on those tables.

Holy cow!

I am just about finished with the Profi-Pack version of this kit. I don't do modern aircraft (anything after WWII really) but have really enjoyed this one. The fit is outstanding.

Looking at your in-progress picks is like looking at my own work area! Uncanny. Metal finish. Clay wash. Kinda creepy.

Kit turned out great and it looks perfect with the conopy open. Cockpit looks great.

I think you Gentlemen are absolutely right.  I'll leave the canopy open.  Thank you for all of the kind words.  I may take it to a model show this weekend to show it off a little.  It definately looks good on my shelf.

Thank you Mike!

I'm toying with the idea of closing up the cockpit.

What does everyone think?

I say leave it open... but if you want to play with it, you may want to think about adding some matte coat to the inside of the canopy. It’ll probably be more work than it’s worth, but it might just add that little extra realism.

You did a really bang-up job on this plane. Especially cool given that it lived at Pawel’s home airfield! What are the odds of that?? I’m not a huge fan of jets, but the MiG 21 just has a very cool look about it. Thanks for sharing!

That's a great looking build.  Love the finish, and the cockpit with the side opening canopy.  Very nice all around.

Cheers, Mark

The side tilting canopy is one of the many odd and unique things attributed to the 21, even with the canopy open the bird still looks sleek and fast. Beautiful build sir.

Thank you Gentlemen,

Canopies usually slide back or open upward.  This one is a little different.  It opens to the side.  I was thinking it could look a little sleeker/sportier with it closed up.  But, Ok, I'll leave it alone.   You guys are right.

Chris,

That MiG turn out perfect! DO NOT close the cockpit! It looks perfect the way it is. The NMF turned out perfect! I have a Profipack 21MF I'll be building hopefully soon for one of Bish's GB. Lots of details from this build I'll incorporate in to mine, so thanks for posting this WIP.

Did I mention it turned out perfect?

Very nice! The cockpit looks great and the ladder really adds to the model. I vote for leaving the canopy open.

Very awesome!!!!  I would leave the cockpit open to show your work in there and give people an idea of how cramped the MiG-21’s office is.  Well done!

Leave it, it adds character to the build.  Excellent craftsmanship!

It's finished!  I didn't weather it much.  I just gave it a Flory Models Dark Dirt treatment.  It pulls out the panel lines.

After wiping that off, I applied the landing gear, missiles and canopy.  I'm very happy with the results.

Maybe the challenge of the 190 is the reason why it was so inexpensive at the model show.

As for the Mig, the decals look good.  I put a little more Micro Sol on one of the large tail decals.  It just needs to snug down one stubborn spot, but it's not bad at all.  Maybe it'll get a sealing clear coat tomorrow.  Then, it's a light weathering.  It should be done soon.

Looking sweet Chris. I agreed with you on the original Eduard 190. I think I'd rather get a root canal than build another one. The new tooled A is supposed to be fairly nice though.

Thank you Gentlemen,

Pawel, thank you very much for the reference photos.  I've finally seen the left side of the aircraft.  The photos verified the markings and thier placement.  I wasn't sure about a couple things.  Maybe one or two of my decals could have been a little this way, or a little that way, but the photos verify their general placement and my choice for the crow (the kit has an option).  The decals for this kit were great.  I don't know who printed them, but they went down easily and they were a pleasure to apply.  I haven't dealt with decals this good in a long time.

I also built a ladder out of an Eduard set.  From those pictures Pawel loaded, it looks like it gets red.
