COMPLETED Atlantis B-24J Liberator build with Ezra
Posted by Tosh on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 10:49 AM

Here is a Hobby Lobby purchase that Ezra chose surprisingly of a Liberator that I've fondly remember assembling as a child.  It was a 1/72 Monogram monstrosity.  The front rotating gun turret was a cool enhancement.

As for this kit, I've never heard of Atlantis before.  It must be an older kit as it has raised lines.  This will be an interesting build for the both of us!

Nice, a big ole Lib

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Hi Toshi,

That model was a Revell "box scale" kit from way back in 1954. It's about 1/92. I think the best part of it is that great globe display stand.

Atlantis is a new company that's re-popping old kits, including some really old ones from Aurora as well.

Have fun!

The 'J' version is my fav version of a B-24. You have to love that goofy looking nose turret. The bombardier had to squeeze under that turret.

I remember those "box scale" kits when I was a kid. Fun!

Your comments and questions are always welcome.

Yes he does.  He picked out the old Monogram 1/48 B-17G but when I told him we've built that already he insisted on the J series Liberator.

Building kits has been on the back burner lately as it's been unusually warm and sunny hence outdoor play for Ezra has been a priority here in Northeast Ohio.  Soon, strong winds and sleet will accompany a change in seasons.  Fishing, playing at the park, concerts, and kite flying are just some of the fun things occupying our times together plus the fresh air is great for Mrs. Toshi and I.

As always sir, your knowledge never ceases to surprise me.  It is a 1/92 scale kit and it has a very interesting looking globe display standing.

There were several kits labeled "Atlantis" at Hobby Lobby.

I've only known of the J version until I started building recently.  And yes, the J version is the coolest version around.

Hi Toshi,

How is Grandma?

Bill

Grandma is very tired today as she has received her first treatment of chemo yesterday.  Thank you for asking.  She ate a little breakfast and lunch but drank lots of fluids and took a long nap with Ezra.  Other than that, she seems to be looking good.

Yes, with my assistance and on the count of three, he does extremely well cutting sprue.  As for grandma, rest and recuperation was needed today as her first session of chemo therapy occurred yesterday.  Thank you for asking.

Nice! I was checking that out at Hobby Lobby the other day as well.  I look forward to your progress.

I finally found where this thread was and blew the dust off the Tamiya liquid cement bottle.  I asked Ezra if he’s interested in helping papa in starting back up the kit, he told me later.  He is really interested in hand held games.

At least he told me he’ll make models with me later this evening as he knows the trouble with my arm so bare with me.

Yeah, it's good to see you guys back at work!!!

That's one thing I like about modeling: When I squatting on the floor cursing and screaming about the part that flew off and went missing I forget about all my other problems. Wink

Thank you sir.  It was actually Ezra’s idea, he calls Mrs. Toshi Tu’Tu. It means grandma in Hawaiian.  Come and help papa.  Lol.

Here’s Ezra with the Tamiya cutters and cutting off one of the 4 cowlings without my help.  He’s really taking leaps and bounds.
