Brand new Tamiya 1/48 P-38
Posted by Cadet Chuck on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 7:14 PM

I just received my Tamiya P-38, shipped on the day of their release.  Looking at the box content and the instructions, it looks like another fine, state of the art, kit.  I noticed this was sold by Tamiya GMBH in Germany.  I was not aware they had a German source.  Anyway, I would be interested in hearing opinions from others on this kit.  I am not going to start it, until I finish my current project on the bench.

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

Mine arrived on Monday (from scalehobbyist for $58.99) and I agree it looks like a home run. I'd also like to hear from anyone who is starting theirs soon because I can't get to mine for several weeks or more.

I saw two at R/C Country in Sacramento yesterday.  Still waiting for HLJ to ship the one I have on order with them.

Just ordered mine from Hobbylinc. I swore I wouldn't buy anymore right now but I had to have this one. It is definately at the upper limit of my price range, but I can't pass this one up. Should be here within the week.

Andy's Hobby Hedquarters on YouTube built one before they were released, you might check that out.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

I got mine last week Friday and have started it. It's definitely a great kit. I wasn't ready for a 54 step instruction booklet thats for sure. I haven't come across any issues but from what I have done the landing gear bays are a bit finicky but very detailed compared to Hasegawa and Academy, they do go together nicely though. Just don't slap things together and it'll be fine. The only thing I can say that is a let down is the gun barrels are solid with decals. I have a master barrel set to replace the kit ones with.
